ok lets think this through from their side instead of yours for a second, I'm just playing devil's advocate btw.

The marriages are between two people of the same sex which in thier minds are not marriages. So how are they attacking a marriage that in their minds doesn't exist?

But that's not how they think. If the Social Fascists thought that way, they wouldn't be any more opposed to gay marriage than I am to my niece having her Ken doll marry Barbie. If they really believed such marriages weren't real, they wouldn't be so rabidly opposed to them. They believe such marriages are real. And they don't have a problem voiding them. After all, why would you need to go through the whole getting the thing on the ballot and voting on it if you didn't think it was real? Why would you bother?

All I know is that when they put up fountains that say "Gays Only" and others that say "Straights Only," I'm going to take a drink from one, then take a drink from the other, then tell any bystanders, "Tastes like the same water to me." (An homage to a black celebrity, the name of whom escapes me at the moment, who did the same thing decades ago during segregation.)

Then I'll have to add, "Also, I'm bi." :p

*rolls his eyes*

How hard is this to understand, people?

They aren't stupid. They know that they are recognised in law. But they don't agree with the legal recognition, because they are not valid marriages, in their eyes.

No, they don't "believe such marriages are real". They believe such marriages have legal recognition.

Those two are not the same thing to these people.

It's not very hard to understand, but it's apparently more fun to mock conservatives and treat them as complete idiots.

Gay marriage (and homosexuality in general) is a threat to traditional family values. So are pornography and feminism, among many other things.

Liberals have consistently underestimated conservatives in the last few years (at least), and I don't see the pattern breaking any time soon.

If "traditional family values" are that weak, then it's time they got bulldozed under by the evolution of human society anyways.

I, for one, won't weep to see a time pass when it's peachy-dandy to think that xenophobia and misogyny should dictate social structure. I won't mourn the generation that venerates those as cultural ideals, either.

Why? What consequences do you predict if, say, gay marriage was legalized or socially accepted?

Well, obviously, married straight people would divorce in droves and have rampaging gay sex, while eating their young.

Just like in Massachussetts.

OH WAIT.

How, exactly, are gay marriage and homosexuality threats to 'traditional' family values.

Seriously - give me some examples - because otherwise it's just B.S.

its not fun, its largely true. I mean look at ann coulter-she does not have to be a complete idiot, she just chooses to be. If there were fewer complete iditons on the conservative side, it would not be embarassing to be a conservative. Its very hard explaining the solid foundation of conservative priciple of government when you have people screaming about "family values" that are based entirely on the crazed rantings of a handfull of reactionary ministers.

the traditional family values are Honesty, responsibility, honor, personal integrity and commitment, as well as compassion. I fail to see how any of these values are threated or compromised by gay marriage, pornography or feminism.

politcally conservative values are about individual repsonsibilty, small government, taking care of the nation before the world, staying out of the internal affairs of other nations, and maximizing the abiity of citizens to profit from thier own industry. the government keeps the peace and administers justice.

AgainnI do not see how homosexual marriage, pornogrphy or feminism comprimise these values. I am a conservative by nature, but I am a conservative who beleives that every person has the obligation to think for themselves.

the problem with conservatism in teh modern world is that the conservative movement is populated by shameless idiots with mostly noting more that a high school education following rather blindly a bunch of politcal entertainers like limbaugh and coulter who pander to the ignorant with platitudes and hyperbolic attack on liberals. these politcal enternaiers have created such a myth of horseshit, they once described america as underegoing a conservative revolution. Its an oxymoron.

I don't mock conservatives and treat them as complete idiots, I simply mock complete idiots a refuse to treat them as conservatives.

There are very few intelligent conservatives in this forum. I can recall only a single one from a year back that was a friend, while he remained in the game. This might not be coincidental, however, as statistically significant polls have shown that liberals are indeed more educated.

I think heteronormal male oppression is a threat to individual freedom. So is organized religion, fascist-leaning neocon politicians, and corporations among many other things. (See how I copied your sentences but changed your Cromagnon points of view to match my own.)

Anecdotally, this was true for me in the beginning. Personally, I was shocked by conservative's blatant disregard for the US Constitution, the Geneva Conventions, and hawkishness. However, things have changed and in time the pendulum will swing the other way as it always does. :)
