I'm not really a Dem, but... Bush declaring himself Emperor For Life and getting rid of the voting system altogether? Hasn't this already happened? In case someone is tempted to say "you decline to participate in the alleged representative democracy and yet whine about it?", I dutifully go to the polling places and vote for "Nil" as an individual protest against the ossification of a once vibrant ideal. Long live Abner Doon! Oh, and I do cast ballots for local positions that have some actual bearing upon actual things that may matter to me and my community. |

I don't really vote but... Hasn't this already happened? Like Kendra, I don't get it, though possibly not for the same reason.
There's nothing saying that one party has a lock on a certain political philosophy, so that if you are, say, a liberal, you can't be Republican, or you can't be a conservative if you're not a Democrat. Does "Rockefeller Republican" or "Reagan Democrat" ring any bells?  |
