From: Kevn Klein I try to read between the lines to see people in the majority baiting him in, knowing the hot buttons. Then they find a way to trigger a remark from him that breaks the rules. While at the same time appearing innocent of inflaming him. Then they report that post. The moderator rarely reads the entire thread, to see it was a baiting. I expect mods to be more capable of taking things in context, but either way... This is the guys third post ever From: someone You're the one that's a jerk. /112/72/78811/1.html#post815000

Yes, I see, then I read the next comment, where he clarified it. His mannerism is very similar to many in these forums, only leaning right. From: Stankleberry Sullivan It was a joke, dippy. Did you see this line in the OP's post?
I implore everyone -- stop being jerks. It's frustrating.
That's why I made my post. So calm yourself, whiny. George Bush owns you.

From: Kevn Klein I don't think his reference to Democrats is any worse than some of the things people here call the Republicans. I don't find it baiting or trolling to have a strong negative opinion about a political party. I expect Democrats to strongly dislike conservative ideas, and vise versa.
Maybe I'm just thick skinned from the years on IRC, it's so common. I've seen people with so many different opinions, it's numbed my senses I guess. That's why I don't easily get baited into breaking the rules, even though my opinions are very contrary to the majority.
I try to read between the lines to see people in the majority baiting him in, knowing the hot buttons. Then they find a way to trigger a remark from him that breaks the rules. While at the same time appearing innocent of inflaming him. Then they report that post. The moderator rarely reads the entire thread, to see it was a baiting. Gosh, Kevn, you really didn't read many of his initial posts, did you? He started out on a really bad foot and just kept on with his replies of "you don't agree with my ideas and I am superior to you, you are an idiot." Yes I know he never really said those exact words... I attempted to help him, as did many others, only to be rebuffed. I may not agree with anything that you say, but I'm not going to back-handedly call you a moron. If you are trying to help me, I really don't think I'm going to say "You're making up rules!!! you're just doing this because you don't like my ideas, whiny baby." This guy was super-special. He started out like this and things went downhill. Have you read his super-special blog yet? You know as well as everyone else that there are competent ways of having a discussion. His was is NOT the way to go about it. I know I jumped on the bandwagon, heck it's possible I got the damn thing out. Point is, he decided from the get-go to be a jerk with this persona (shades of Tony Clifton). It was he who started baiting people. I took the bait & ran with it.

Kevn,
Your assertion is way out in left field. Just because a person is the minority of opinion, does not automatically qualify the opinion to be left alone to stand.
Accusing a body such as the SL forums of "group think" is a weak argument. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and dismissing the majority because they are a majority is absurd.

From: Kevn Klein Yes, I see, then I read the next comment, where he clarified it. His mannerism is very similar to many in these forums, only leaning right. See, even the next post calls the other poster "dippy" for not knowing that a completely new poster was joking (having no context to be able to judge that, how would poster #1 know that?). This is classic trolling. He jumped into a thread, made a ridiculous post that would inflame and annoy. After being called out for the post by the innocent original poster, he sidesteps and claims "it was a joke" while still simultaneously offending again by calling the first poster "dippy". And he was just getting started....

Yes, Kevn, please undestand that I DO think there can be a mob-mentality at times here; I'm trying to get across that in my opinion, in this particular instance, was was trying to troll. as Gabe stated he started pretty early. here's a couple more within the first 30 hours of him joining - so this would be him first reading the threads, with nobody knowing him, and thusly he wouldn't have been attacked: From: Stankleberry Sullivan I guess I will have to start at the beginning with you folks. You are way behind. From: Stankleberry Sullivan I see you're one of those people that don't think the terrorists are real. You're a fool.
You should probably stay out of discussions about politics until you are more educated about how America and the world works. Then you won't say dumb things about Bush acting like a dictator anymore.
From: Stankleberry Sullivan Eh, if your comment wasn't so lame I would have had more to say to you. From: Stankleberry Sullivan Don't cry. Can't you put me on ignore or something? From: Stankleberry Sullivan It's fun to use words when you don't know what they mean. these are just a few of the over 50 posts he made in his first day here. I would humbly submit he came in here shoving people out of the way, and delighted when he got a response. Hell of a first day.

And, Kevn please note the whole tone of this. Not really much of a clarification that the first post wasn't just a guy being an ass. From: someone It was a joke, dippy. Did you see this line in the OP's post?
I implore everyone -- stop being jerks. It's frustrating.
That's why I made my post. So calm yourself, whiny. George Bush owns you. As to your assertion that his behavior is similar to others, well that really isn't a super reason to think he isn't being a troll. Of those that do behave in this manner, I don't think they would be surprised to find themselves jumped in a forum back alley.

Well, from my perspective it was a gang attack. I have been in that position, without the emotional responses. I hope he will also learn to let the gang roll off like water off a duck's behind. His ideas are shared by millions in this country, and deserve airing on this forum. To better understand people who disagree, one should be exposed to as many opinions as possible. Filter out the rough language to see what is being said. That's my opinion. Have fun all, bbl

Kind of like that dude selling Bush-els of Peaches all across the grid. You guys need to knock it off and take the opportunity to see from another's perspective. How very juvenile you all are. Have fun all, bbl Kevn - there are many people in this forum who are supporters of the current president, who are religious, who support the war in Iraq and who are republicans. I have seen many spirited discussions. What I saw from him was not a discussion - it was baiting, sarcasm and abuse, pure and simple. I have seen discussions dissolve into name calling in the past, but his posts never even made it to the discussion phase, they began with name calling and taunting, perhaps that's the difference. When people tried to bring the subject around to a discussion he persisted in name calling and taunting. He was an excellent candidate for the Ignore Button. .

From: Cocoanut Koala What does that make you, the 26 Musketeers? Ooh. I forgot about the dark lord of your clan, Prokofy. I guess we should call you the Fantastic Four. - Coco has the ability to apologize for anyone regardless of how bad they are.
- Kevn battles his opponents with massive quotes from religious pundits on the web.
- Stankleberry uses his mind-altering troll techniques to derail productive threads.
- Prokofy has the power to turn any position into a Bolshevik conspiracy.
Together, they are the ... Fantastic Four! ~Ulrika~

You know, I don't like your saying that, Ulrika, and sometimes I wonder if you are actually as intelligent as I once thought, considering you have just lumped one person in this thread - Kevn - with me - because I agreed with him - - then you linked Skankleberry to it and - for good measure - threw in Prok - - and somehow decided to disparage those individuals and somehow imply that those individuals are a group and worked together AS a group in this instance - - when in fact I see no such group but the one you just invented for your own convenience, and as far as I can tell, you only did so because I agreed with Kevn. God, what a crime that must be. Who is this Kevn person anyway? coco

Relax. Have some fun with the forum. Don't send a frown when a smile will do just as well. Let the fizz from a soda tickle your nose. Hug your children. Get ready for SciFriday. Orchestrate and execute the ban of a disruptive poster. In short, don't worry -- be happy. ~Ulrika~

A seven-page (and growing, I'm sure) thread about a troll. I'm sure that the amount of attention he's receiving will encourage him to communicate with others in a thoughtful and effective manner in the future.
That was sarcasm. In case anyone was wondering.
