Don't feel so bad. They'll make the money back from games. ....if they ever start releasing any. I got tired of waiting, and traded in my PSP for a DS. I'd bought the system on release day, and was completely enthused about the bright beautiful screen, the multimedia capabilities, etc etc. Then I had to sit back and endure a dearth of games for the system, many of them simple re-hashes of PS2 or PS1 games, and a steady flow of UMD movies, which both cost as much (or more) than their DVD counterparts and provided fewer features, and which could only be played on the Sony PSP. "Universal" Media Disc, indeed. It didn't help that they decided to go with proprietary memory stick memory, which was more expensive than some of the alternatives, especially SD memory, which is about the same size but generally more affordable. That annoying analog "nub" also just doesn't seem to have the same feel that the PS1 or PS2 controllers had; 1st-person games like Coded Arms just didn't feel "right" while playing them. I think that the PSP had bad timing, in an industry where games are increasingly more expensive to produce, and which is gearing up for the next-gen systems and games. It's technically a very good system, but I understand that it's expensive to make games for, and many game companies are stretched thin on both staff and finances while they prepare to straddle the jump between current-gen systems and next-gen. Their best bet for the PSP would have been something which they were unwilling to do; that is, allowing game companies to release Greatest Hits versions of popular PS1 games, at a budget price. (Say $15 for 1st-party games, $20 for 3rd party). The game assets still exist and are no more than 10 years old in most cases, they'd just need to be ported to the new system. I'd have willingly paid $20 to play "Tomb Raider Collection, 1-3" on my PSP, or "Capcom fighters collection", or others like these. The game publishers could have begun to make money again on these currently-dead titles, with only a bit of re-working; meanwhile, the PSP could begin to fill out its lineup with lots of budget titles, to tide customers over between the premiere releases. It's not like Sony would ever listen to me, though; I'm just a (former) customer, what do I know?

Lol.. I'd really hoped they'd get some sence and let us write our own UMDs.. Altho I really knew they never would I suppose.. But with a name like Universal Media Disk I had a reason to hope I enjoy fired up, and Mercury on the occasional long journey.. And stick episodes of whatever I'm watching on DVD on the memory stick.. I wish they'd used SD cards too.. I think the thing it has over the DS for me, is if I need/want to show friends a TV Show/Movie/Song/Picture I can have them all on the PSP.. And I'm a sucker for a big clear screen

From: Zapoteth Zaius I *think* the revolution is going to be released June 2006.. We find out at E3 (along with another "secret" apparently). Also worth noting is that Sega is reportedly interested in the Rev's emulation capabilities. How awesome would it be to have Saturn and Megadrive/Genesis games available on it too? Hmm... I promised a rant, didn't I? Well, maybe after lunch.

None of them. My PC is 4 years old and it can run pretty much any game or software made in the last 30 years or so. Why would I spend money on a highly proprietary piece of hardware that can only run a few games, all of which I would actually have to buy for a highly inflated price.

From: Kris Ritter I don't know why you would. I know why I would. But that's me. You would because you have more disposable income than my total income, and probably enough room in your house to keep stashing away outdated console hardware I did the console thing when I was a kid. Three consoles later I just said fuck it, for the money I waste on these I can just get a PC, and have instant access to zillions of games instead of having to settle for 10 or 12, and then wait for people to make more of them, and pray they are actually made available in my country. Plus the kinds of games I like to play hardly ever make it to consoles anyway. Consoles are full of horribly shallow games, lame ports, and franchise deals.

I say 360 until it is proven to me that PS has caught up with its multiplayer gaming. XBox live has some of the best multiplayer action I've experienced yet.
