Because an honest, nice-guy approach is about the LAST thing you want in the leader of a country.

What should such fellows as I do crawling between earth and heaven? We are arrant knaves, all; believe none of us.

The list is subjective and Mr. Goldberg opinion. Mr. Carters accomplishments, whether you agree with them or not, are still accomplishments - 40 years in public service and the publication of 20 books as well as efforts that established him in a position to accept a Nobel Peace Award. What exactly has Mr. Goldberg done for the world lately - besides criticize people who are trying to do something? Just curious. _____________________

This is also the ex-President who once claimed he was attacked by a giant swimming rabbit, and who also once reported seeing a UFO. And you haven't been? Where the heck have you been living? ![]() _____________________

This is also the ex-President who once claimed he was attacked by a giant swimming rabbit, and who also once reported seeing a UFO. Jimmy merely reported seeing an unusual moving light. Many American officials have reported UFO's as its actually the sworn duty of any Armed Forces personel to do do so. It's part of the defense of one's country to report unknown aerial objects isn't it? I just think its an interesting cultural phenomenon that you have on the one hand an honorable man who was virtually hounded out of office and has been ridiculed ever since, versus a nasty wack-job of a President that sh*t just doesn't seem to stick to. Anyone ever seen "Wag the Dog?" ![]() _____________________

Hehehe...I was gonna say that but you beat me to it. Seriously though....Carter?!? I have nothing against some of his humanitarian efforts after his presidency (I am a big fan of Habitat for Humanity), but he was a lousy president. High Inflation, gas rationining...high umemployment...I mean what was so great? Now, if we are to use the reasoning that was being used at the beginning of GWB's presidency, all the problems (recession, 9/11, et al) were Clinton's fault. Therefore, all of those problems were Gerald Ford's fault. ![]() _____________________

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Carter was one of our finest PRESIDENTS ever.
Certainly preferable to the asshat that followed him. _____________________

Our founding fathers have also spoken out against Bush's eavesdropping.

Some argue that FISA is irrelevent to the issue of Presidential power to authorize warrentless surveillence in the context of the war on terror.
So, from that perspective, I would say that the fact Carter signed the act has nothing to do with the issue. His experience, knowledge, and expertise on matters relating to FISA is irrelevent. I'm not saying Carter is wrong, but I am saying that his opinion on FISA may not be relevent. An investigation might help to sort these things out. If the Executive Branch has such authority granted by the constitution, then no Congressional act can change that (FISA). If you want it changed, then we need an amendment. Start a petition, call your congressman/woman and write letters to your senetors. |

I think all of this talk is quite naive.
During Carter's administration, as with every administration, there were active clandestine US programs going on all over the world. His image... is not him. Yes, he may try to live up to mankind's ideals. But foremost, he was able to attain high office. You don't get there by being Christopher Robin in any way, shape or form. _____________________

You nailed it right here Desmond. I do like Carter alot though. He's a good guy. I think he has done less to fuck up the country than the other living ex presidents. |
