Bah!

People like this Phelps guy piss me off. I don't care what you think about politics and religion, it is highly disgusting to go to a funeral and act happy that the person is dead for any reason. Last thing I need when I'm upset about one of my closest friends dead is a jerk like this that doesn't know the first thing about my friend saying that it is good that he is dead! Let alone wives, husbands, and children obviously don't need this at the funeral for the man or woman they loved.

Unacceptable. It's harassment of the most cruel kind. I would think that these individuals could be removed for trespassing by the funeral home.

I don't think that one even needs to mention the fact that these people served in the military. When anyone passes away, one should show respect for the feelings of the grieving family. The fact that individuals would exploit grieving families is just shocking to me.

I would say that these people at the funeral are not protesters rather they are publicity seekers engaging in cruel harassment to promote a platform of bigotry and hatred. I say this, as I'm not entirely comfortable with promoting vigilante groups to control "protesters". However, I do fully support the use of the police to arrest these individuals for trespassing. Their behavior is abominable and there isn't a court in the land that wouldn't convict them.

What a sad and disturbing story.

Sorry for hopping into this thread looking for fun. I had no idea the topic was so damn serious. Next time instead of swearing at me and calling me names, perhaps someone could let me know by PM that I'm making an ass of myself.

It's difficult not to when the man and his followers show up at peoples funerals showing such utter disrespect. Though I do think that a show of people who quietly stand and drown out his hateful message may be the only answer and to get that - people have to organize.

You do need to be careful of this clan though. Most of his church is his family.

Phelps and many of his children are lawyers. They are an extremely litigous bunch.

If you do go to one of these counter-protest events, please follow all the rules and no matter how high your emotions become, do not act out. That is part of their game plan. They will then sue you, they will sue the family, they will sue local law enforcement for letting you get out of control. This is what these people do.

So if you do go to with a biker group or any other, be sure to know what your purpose is and make sure everyone around you knows as well. You can't make anything this man does about you or take it personally.

This is very true.. a whole family of asshat hate mongering lawyers who make a good chunk of their money to support and continue their protests by sueing people who are so pissed off that they attack. They are actually counting on this. You will notice one of them will be videotaping the entire protest just for the sake of catching anyone on tape that loses control.

So how do you do piss off phuckwad Phelps during his protests? Set up a pledge drive right across the street from his protests, all proceeds going towards whatever cause that Phelps is rallying against (ex. a pro-gray rights organization). Have pledges donate something like $2 for every minute that Phelps is on his soapbox spouting out his hate, and let Phelps see that $ number continuously grow due to his own fault. Guarantee it will be one of his shorter protests and he won't be back in your town.
