I've seen the name "Rip Torn" on some sort of TV/Movie credits.. I mean why? For the love of god?

The worst part is they probably chose it themself in later life..

Nope, that's his original name.

He plays Z in Men In Black, if you've never seen him.

Rip Torn was born Elmore Rual Torn, Jr.

I guess he thought it would be a cool stage name.

Gotta love Abe Vigoda. I think his character's name was spelled 'Fish' though.

Strange coincidence: Barney Miller was played by Hal Linden!!

Didn't some celebrity recently name their kid "Ka-el", Superman's birth name on Krypton?

I suggested naming our son, Harold Richard, but for some reason my husband got really mad at me. Don't have any clue why...I thought it was a distinguished sounding name. HAHAHAHA

That is a link to a list of names that I think SUCK and the parents should be beaten severely. WTF were these people thinking?

Holy cow, I just remembered that there was a girl I worked with about ten years ago whose name was "Heidi Mycock." What were her parents thinking? "Hm... There's no name that sounds like 'Where's,' so let's go with one that sounds like 'Hide.' " Yeah. She was cute, though.

What first name would go good with that?? I mean really, lol. Seems to me that they should get there last name changed or something.

:P

Ghoti is not mispronounced. It follows the rules of English just fine.

Ghoti is pronounced "fish"... "gh" as pronounced in 'enough', "o" as in 'women', "ti" as in 'intuition'.

Yes, but Shaw was cheating a bit. It doesn't *really* follow the rules of English pronunciation. The 'f' sound for 'gh' only happens when that syllable occurs at the *end* of a word. 'women' is, as far as I know, a unique pronunciation - I am willing to be corrected. And the 'sh' sound for 'ti' only occurs in the combination 'tion'.

Shaw was attempting to show how illogical English pronunciation is. But in point of fact his demonstration, while fun, didn't really make its point simply because English pronunciation is, while complicated, actually fairly logical.

Theresa Green! It took me about a day to get that one :)
I was at school with someone called Andrew Tandy. Andy Tandy? Yes, that went down well in the playground.
