From: Chance Abattoir That's a good policy for conversational communication, but not useful for critical applications. Yeah, critical applications such as the all important game forums. The pinnacle of debate venues! I will conquer the world from my off-topic throne!

What is it with all of the world domination talk today, or is it just me?

From: SuezanneC Baskerville "Grody to the max" will never die. Do I detect a touch of hopefulness here?

Do I need an apostrophe when saying "turn-offs?" Why or why not?

From: Chance Abattoir Do I need an apostrophe when saying "turn-offs?" Why or why not? That would depend on your usage of said term. If you were desribing things that turn you off, i.e. "My turn-offs include hairy armpits and..." then that is a simple PLURAL and there would be no apostrophe. If you were ascribing things that BELONG TO your turn-off, i.e., "Jane Avatar is a big turn-off to me. She never shaves her legs. I can't stand my turn-off's hairy legs!" this would be a POSSESSIVE and WOULD require use of the apostrophe. P2

Pronouns are easy
Subject I Thou He She It
Object Me Thee Him Her It
Possessive My Thy His Her Its
Preterite Possessive Mine Thine His Hers Its
The "thou" line is easy, the cases all rhyme with the "I" line except for the subject. The rest of it is as chaotic as any other Germanic language. In older English, the preterite possessive for I and thou was also used as the possessive when the following noun started with a vowel.
Thou art mine enemy. Mine eyes have seen the glory....
Mine eyes are red and blurry....
