Despite my gripe about the wording, the thread is about intolerance, something I am never unwilling to get confrontational about with people in SL and rl. From what I can see now, odds are Neehai doesn't think all straights are bigots.

Agreed, Ingrid.
We know Neehai doesn't hate all straight people... and we also know all straight people don't hate Neehai!
/me releases a flock of doves.

From: Billy Grace Perfect example of a stereotypical, bigoted statement that goes unchallenged. What the heck does being or not being a homosexual or not have to do with being a Republican? NOTHING! From: Billy Grace Here in lies the problem Neehai. Instead of apologizing for your wording which others thought offensive, you choose to defend your words. Even now, you apologize to Ingrid but seem to care less about doing the same to me. As Alain pointed out had you simply said something to this affect, “I am sorry, that was not what I meant to say”, that would have been the end of it.
You can’t seem to help yourself. You apologize to Ingrid but qualify it with a defense of your words. Why not apologize and leave it at that if you don’t like the drama as you claim? Perfect example of a Sunday-Only Christian. Whatever happened to "only God can judge" and "forgive us our sins as we forgive those who trespass against us..." etc.? Sure, you're human, you sin, you get forgiven. How about a little of that Christianity for Neehai and Mulch?

From: Neehai Zapata It is not quite an accurate comparison. Being a straight bigot in this scenario related directly to the nature of their bigotry. They are bigoted because of their intolerance of a sexual preference different from theirs. Their prefrence being straight. Congratulations for taking the intent of this thread and twisting it. You win. I was wrong to try and have dinner in a restaurant. I guess I am offensive all around. hold on... is being gay a preference or a compulsion? is being straight a preference or a compulsion?

I do not think either is a preference, nor do I think either is a compulsion. Of course, having a strong psych background, compulsion means very specific things to me.
The word that should be bandied, and usually IS bandied by those in the know, is "Sexual Orientation".
The actual reasons why a person belongs to a particular orientation are still shrouded in mystery. Some say it is Nature, others Nurture... I believe it is a complex interplay of both. What I DON'T believe is that there is any manner of conscious choice in the matter. People do not CHOOSE to be gay any more than they CHOOSE to be straight. The only choice I ever made was to be honest.

I have nothing against Neehai or Mulch whatsoever. I made it clear that what they do is their own business and I completely support them against the idiots that made them uncomfortable.

From: Neehai Zapata Seriously, you straight bigots need to get a life. Sometimes two men just want to go on a date. It's not a political statement and it is not about you. So keep your opinions to yourself in the restaurant.
Honestly, don't you people have anything more productive to talk about? Neehai, I just want to say that you are right (at least in my case). There have been times in my life that I have done bad things to people for nothing other than to feel more accepted by putting other folks down. But, to let you know, it goes deeper than that for me. My father was an extreme homophobe, and it has taken many years and getting to know several homosexuals on a personal (plutonic) level. I have to say that there are things in my past that I am not proud of that would have hurt people terribly (just as it seems to have you). I am sorry for that, and what has happened to you. From a Christian perspective (the only one I have), we are to love all of God's children. But, we do not like what we are not, nor do we generally accept things we are not, and are prone to point fingers and scoff. This occurs most often when we see something in our own lives we do not like (not necessarily the same offending item). Again, I am sorry that this has happened to you.

Weeee! Finished this whole thread. Amazing what you can accomplish during a layover in Phoenix. lol Alain - Nice summation of the whole orientation conundrum. Your theories are nearly identical to my own. Neehai - You live in NC, for cryin' out loud. You gave up your right to same-sex dinner dates when you left DC.

are you trying to set Neehai and me up? I wasn't out on a date with, I mean, an afternoon lunch with Neehai!! I am not gay, I was only in that club that 1 time cuz I needed to use the restroom really bad and they never clean the Taco Bell restrooms next store I made a new friend and we will be marching in the parade together, but that is beside the point. Billy Billy Billy, lemme teach you something. Do you know how to tell if a man is gay? His dick tastes like shit!

Good God. Having read Ingrid's and Billy's contributions, I have decided that some people's hobby is getting offended.

From: Paolo Portocarrero Weeee! Take pictures and post, wouldja? Sorry 'bout the crappy afternoon, Neehai. I have a co-worker who lives nearby and who knows that I am gay (only a couple co-workers know). When we first started working together, she was cordial. Now, she treats me with utter contempt for no other apparent reason than this. obviously she didnt get the memo stating gay guys are fun to shop with!
