I have some tattoos ... they really don't hurt.

I don't like one of them though. I wish I hadn't gotten it. It's in Chinese. I don't understand Chinese. I was 16.

Yep, that's sort of the reason I don't have any.
I've gone to tatto artists with friends for moral support (especially for piercings). But I've never gotten a tatoo. Mostly because I could never think of something I would want to wear every day for the rest of my life.

I always swore I would NEVER get a tattoo, bc I'm a wimp when it comes to pain. But I got one, a ring around my thumb, in a tent at a biker rally. The tattoo artist was deaf.

It hurt like hell, but you couldn't tell it by looking at me. My friend who was with me at the time said that when he grows up, he wants to be just like me.

I think I'd like to get another tattoo.

After giving it further thought, I think anyone going to SLCC that wants to get a tat with Maeve and me should plan on doing so.

Anyone from the area know of a good tat artist?

Tats rule...I have 4, incluing a good sized one on my wrist area. I had my first one done there when I was underage and had it covered up with a larger, better quality one a couple years after. I get a lot of comments on it, 95% positive. The other 5% say things like "OMG what will your grandkids think??" Frankly, I really don't give a damn. My mother even went out and got a tat a couple years after I got my first one.
They don't hurt, per se, maybe some discomfort in certain sensitive areas, but you become numb to it rather quickly...actually they can be quite addicting---I salivate at the sound of a tattoo gun LOL However, I cannot tolerate piercings. Almost passed out cold after having my ears pierced.

That reminds me of a girl from my high school... I came back from a year's exchange to Japan and one of the girls at my school was so excited to show me her japanese tattoo...

I paused... looked at it... looked at her... looked back... and asked her why she was a "freak". The term individual/unique doesn't always translate easily when it's going to a language that strives for conformity....

Not as bad as the child I saw with "Dragon F*cker" on her t-shirt in Kanji, but sadly more permanent.

When I was in Japan, one girl from California had a back tattoo and no one really commented on it. I guess being a dimunitive blonde with blue eyes might have played into them not kicking her out of the onsen (oh.. sweet onsen...). But I'm still limiting myself to piercings, I want a tat, but I also want to teach in Japan...
