Mine was a 1974 Opel Manta. It cost me $350. My dad and uncle "rebuilt" the engine 3 times... the third time was the charm - the piston went right through the engine block
![]() I have yet to find a photo of it on the 'net that does it justice. It was maroon and Bondo ![]() _____________________

1969 Ford Country Squire Station Wagon. I don't have any pictures but believe it or not, that sucker had a damn hot engine for a "family wagon" I drag raced with that baby all the time.

1963 Dodge 330 two-door. Much like this one, minus the hood scoop and in sort of an aquamarine blue. That has a cool grill. The first car I ever got was a 1990 Voyager my mom gave me. The second car I ever got was given to me a couple of months ago, a 1994 Voyager. The engine and transmission both blew on it after a week. I finally bought a car on my own for the first time a couple of weeks ago. It's a 1965 Nova. It looks like this, but aqua-colored and in desperate need of a paint job. ![]() _____________________

A popular color scheme from '74, no? ![]() Very popular. Then I got a green, white, and rusted 1973 Chevy Nova - yet another very popular color scheme ![]() I bet if my uncle the "mechanic" hadn't "fixed" that Nova, it would still be running ![]() _____________________

My first car was the 1974 Gran Torino! Yes yes the Starsky and Hutch car, except mine was all white.
Damn I miss that car. It was soooo much fun to drive, and sooo powerful. Found out a lot of very important road tips too. Like if it's 3 in the morning and you're driving down the freeway at 110mph .... the cars in front of you will get out of your way. You really can 'fly' 10 feet or more when you hit bumps in the road or go over the top of a hill. If you go down a twisty mountain road at fifty slamming the brakes constantly so you spin and fishtail around corners, they will overheat and lock up leaving you with no way to stop! Doing donuts in muddy fields is a slice of heaven. Having a huge V8 car made of steel will knock down brick walls and barely leave a dent or scratch. You should always be careful when you back up because having a huge V8 car made of steel will leave the most amazing imprints in the sides of lesser cars. It's not as hard as you'd think to knock over a fire hydrant. Knocking over a fire hydrant is a great way to clean the underside of your car ... as long as your engine doesn't flood and you can get away without anyone seeing. Hydroplaning on the freeway at 90mph is NOT fun at all. Ahhhh, the memories! _____________________

Yay for the '77 Impala! My parents had one of these and I drove it in high school. Huge engine, interior like a barn... we fit a lot of people in that sucker. Just don't take it out in the snow, I used to have to throw it into neutral when I was at a stop to keep it from pulling the rear end off the road.
However, the first car I owned was an '85 Escort. The reduction in passenger capacity meant that one of my friends recieved the nickname "hatch". _____________________

First Car
01-11-2006 14:19
My first car was my parents 68 chevy impala, they bought it new and I inherited it in 77 when I graduated high school (yep old fart here). When it died I bought a 66 oldsmobile delta 88 OMG what a boat of a car, had the pushbutton transmission.
Loved both of those cars.. we could fit tons of people in them. Ahh cruising in the boonies of Virgina such fond memories. *hugs* Ash _____________________

my first was a black porsche 944.
Second and third were also porsches - a silver 993, followed by a black convertable 993. I never liked the 996 water cooled versions, and well, maintaince costs drove me from that market. After that I had a kid and bought a 4 door dakota quad cab, then a 35' long RV. Right now I own a mazda RX-8: Here's some pics. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/719164 I forget the exact order, but in that timespan, I also owned a grand-am, a suburban, a dodge neon and a SL4 or something saturn. |

My first car was the absolutely perfect car for a new driver, a 1978 Ford LTD. If there ever was a tank on wheels, this is it. It was huuuuuge but had a massive 400 engine and would really fly for a big ole car. I drove it for 2 years and sold it because it was getting like 4 gallons to the mile... seriously.
I made it up quite nicely with my 2nd and 3rd cars, a 1980 silver Camaro with red interior and a sweet black 1985 Firebird with silver interior. Loved both of those. I'll skip ahead and spare you my entire auto history. I drive a blue Lincoln Navigator with tan leather interior now and love it. _____________________

Billy, and anyone else who ever had a Camaro: what do you think of the Camaro concept unveiled this week at the Detroit auto show? The only experience that I have had with a Camaro was that the damned thing would go through mass flow sensors like it was candy. Go on a road trip to see family and half way there the damned thing would just STOP on the freeway. Thank god for AAA. I would never own another one thanks. Plus they are gas guzzling hogs ![]() |

Are you thinking about heading down to the shore? Uh, yeah, I think I'm goin' down to the shore. Rod - Whatcha gonna do down there? Joe - Uh, I don't know, play some video games, buy some Def Leppard t-shirts. Rod - Hey, don't forget to get your Motley Crue t-shirt, y'know, all proceeds go to get their lead singer out of jail. Joe - Uh huh. Rod - Hey, you gonna check out the Sandbar while you're there? Joe - Uh, what's the Sandbar? Rod - Oh, it's this place that lets sixteen year-old kids drink. Joe - Oh, cool. Rod - Y'know who's gonna be there? Joe - Uh, who? Rod - My favorite cover band, Crystal Shit. Joe - Oh. Rod - Yeah, they do a Doors show, you'd be really impressed, in fact, it goes a little like this: Love me two times baby Love me twice today Love me two times girl Cause I got AIDS Love me two times baby, once for tomorrow, once cause I got AIDS Joe - Wow, Pretty good Jim Morrison impersonation there. Rod - Yeah, I hope those guys have a good sense of humor and don't take us to court. Joe - Uh, what's the court? Rod - Never mind that, Joe - Oh, you mean like the People's Court? Rod - Well, that's another story; the important thing here is you gotta ask me how I'm gonna get down to the shore. Joe - Uh, how you gonna get down to the shore? Rod - Funny you should ask, I've got a car now. Joe - Oh wow, how'd you get a car? Rod - Oh my parents drove it up here from the Bahamas. Joe - You're kidding! Rod - I must be, the Bahamas are islands, okay, the important thing now, is that you ask me what kind of car I have. Joe - Uh, what kinda car do ya' got? Rod - I've got a BITCHIN CAMARO! _____________________

1980 Ford Mustang Hatchback--a very bad era in the history of Mustangs altogether, and I got it in 1986, inherited from my mom. We called the car "Darling Nikki" (Prince song) because the gears would grind. It was like the picture, only bright orange (again, an era of Mustangs I'm sure Ford would like to forget entirely).
This car was our high school homecoming float senior year. We were the class that NEVER got a homecoming float done on time, so that year we just piled a bunch of kids inside and dressed up the football team like Twisted Sister and put them on top of the car, screaming "I WANNA ROCK!" at the top of their lungs. (Ok, yeah, the 80s are something to be lived down, not bragged about...heh) I drove the car through the last year of high school and three years of college, then the electrical system burned up, and I sold it. Did anyone know it's possible to fit twelve determined teenagers in a 1980 Mustang because of the hatchback? |

I had a 1979 Monte Carlo. Born the same year and month I was.
I drove that thing to the junk yard years later after several car accidents. Doors were falling off and the engine had 300,000+ milage on it. But that thing just wouldn't die. Must of had an energizer battery or somthin goin on. Just kept goin. ![]() _____________________

Cristiano, I love that FD RX-7. I consider that to be one of the most beautiful Japanese cars ever made. Not only one of the most beautiful Japanese cars, but one of the most beautiful cars ever made I think. It is a shame that the RX-8 doesn't capture the same sort of spirit - but that kind of magic is difficult to ever reproduce. That whole mid-90s period for Japanese sports cars was amazing - the Z, the Supra and the RX-7 were all works of art. My new obsession is with Aston Martin - I am leaning toward buying one as my next car. Their cars are so strikingly beautiful, and I like the fact that they aren't that common, as down here in Miami BMWs and Mercedes are like Hondas. _____________________

Yay! A car thread!
My very first car was a 1980 Honda Prelude, 5-speed manual with a tacky-ass luggage rack on the trunk. For some reason most of them that year had those racks. F-ugly, IMO. Since then: 1979 Saab 900 Turbo 5-door, 4-speed manual, blue - I loved driving this car, but it was *always* in the shop 1983 VW GTi, 3-door, 5-speed manual, silver - still one of my favorite cars.. quick, zippy, and easy to park. 1986 VW Cabriolet, 2-door convertible, 5-speed manual, silver w/black top - my least favorite 'dub - it had many electrical gremlins and I sold it after just a few months. 1990 VW Corrado G-60, 3-door, 5-speed manual, red - i miss this car ALOT. it was fast and LOVED to corner and major cool points for the rear wing that would deploy above 50mph 1995 BMW 318Ti, 3-door, 5-speed manual, blue - we all make bad decisions once in a while, right? 2002 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro, 4-door, 5-speed manual, gray, Revo chip installed ![]() - my current car - at least until I can find the replacement. _____________________

1973 powder blue Ford Pinto. I could put a full tank of gas in that car for less than $5.00. I was the first one to turn 16 and get a car so I made everyone dump their change in my ashtray to pay for gas.

A 1967 balaro red Camaro, heh I bet I spelt that wrong but names aren't my forte, the car was passed down from my parents to me, I put 4 good years of effort into that car since the day I got it, unfortunately it got to be such a hazard to have the kids in and because of the stalling issues I had to sell it, now I drive a blueish purple mini-van,
but man was that a sweet car when I had it, ![]() if I just could have lived with it enough years to make it a danger hazard with flip-up headlights.... _____________________
