XD My guess was "Area Codes" by Ludacris.
I am not sure what the qualities for a "theme song" are and I'm sure this is probably too slow, but mine would be ...

"Souvenir" by (OMG!) OMD.

The Satchmo Prototype would be walking out on stage to "The Wreched" - NIN, preferable the live version from "And All That Could of Been".

The crowd is at attention. You walk out on to stage. The theme music playing is...

~Ulrika~

I haven't decided on mine yet, but for you, I suggest the Carmina Burana by Carl Orff.

There are so many choice cuts here, I can imagine how well they go along with certain personalities too.

From: Logan Bauer

This is one of my faves, from 1996 was it? The Richard D. James album, one of my alltime faves... how fast AND slow it sounded at the same time. I think that's the emergence of when I began to embrace contradictions. I don't think it helped that I was eating a lot of food that was sweet+sour during listening to that album and doing my homework. (Homework, relatedly, was the first Daft Punk full-length that came out around the same time, this whole "Stateside electronica invasion" thing.)

There is a very beautiful, joyous rendition of "4" as interpreted by Alarm Will Sound. Almost has the deft touch of a high school marching band, only more strident and flexible. The melodies, how quickly the snare flams roll along like dropping a bowl of marbles, while the string melodies swoon like geese making love.

I don't think I could have a single theme song, but in the tradition of what Bel said, I'd have to go with something very composited, hybrided, and MASHEDUP! One big ubermix of every work of music I've ever enjoyed.

Ramble Tamble - CCR

I'd be swaggering through a crowded room, lit hand-rolled Job paper hanging off my bottom lip. The glaring crowd would part before me like a breaking wave, and i'd jump into the front seat of a convertible Mustang to drive away in a flurry of dust and gravel.

You can come along if you want.

When I used to help my pal DJ waaay back when, I always loved playing White Zombie - Thunder Kiss '65 (Swinging Lovers Remix) to pump up the crowd.

there are so many and they all seem to not quite be right...

Off the top of my head:

Third Eye Blind - Iris
Limp Bizkit - Behind Blue Eyes
Gary Jules - Mad World (from Donnie Darko)
Radio Head - Everything In it's Right Place (from Vanilla Sky)

Now I'll shut up at the risk of giving people too much to psychoanalize :P.

Hey, sometimes it's more fun when everything is layered beyond the general sense of recognition!

And you beat me to mentioning the Alarms Will Sound cover of 4, which was the highlight of the whole album! *shakefist* <3

The Beatles - "Across the Universe", or maybe Kraftwerk's "Spacelab", or even "Jack-Ass", by Beck.

Words are flying out like
endless rain into a paper cup
They slither while they pass
They slip away across the universe
Pools of sorrow waves of joy
are drifting thorough my open mind
Possessing and caressing me

Jai guru deva om
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world

Images of broken light which
dance before me like a million eyes
That call me on and on across the universe
Thoughts meander like a
restless wind inside a letter box
they tumble blindly as
they make their way across the universe

Jai guru deva om
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world

Sounds of laughter shades of life
are ringing through my open ears
exciting and inviting me
Limitless undying love which
shines around me like a million suns
It calls me on and on across the universe

Jai guru deva om
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Jai guru deva

My theme is wildly variable according to my mood (just like the rest of me).
Some examples:

Castle in the Mist by Michiru Oshima (off of the ICO soundtrack)
Trauma by Ayumi Hamasaki
Fall No More by Bella Morte
JENOVA Absolute by Nobuo Uematsu (from Final Fantasy VII)
A Fairytale About Slavery by Miranda Sex Garden
Red Shade by Lunarclick*
She Is My Sin or Crownless by Nightwish
Fittingly, Psycho Bitch from Hell by Analog Pussy
or maybe Ozar Midrashim 1.1 by Information Society

~from the distance i can see a huge holographic Ronald McDonald walking between the grain elevators and trees...~

Possible theme songs:

"Don't Let's Start" They Might Be Giants
"Bumble Bee" Meryn Cadell
"Lisa" The Prayers and Tears of Arthur Digby Sellers
"Absolutely Cuckoo" The Magnetic Fields
~or~
The Kyrie from Mozart's Requiem

The inside of my head. Sheesh. :D

Despite being asked a few times in this thread what my theme music would be, I must resist saying. I feel it would be gauche to answer my own Off-Topic forum question.

Upon consideration, I have decided that the techno dance remix of O Fortuna is more appropriate for you. Either that or "Back that ass up" by Juvenile.

I'd strut out to Laisse Tomber les Filles by France Gall.

Then trip over something. And the record would scratch to awkward silence.

Yes, I love all of the Alarm Will Sound renditions I've heard. Really amazing to the music "come full circle" and go from eclectic, nontraditional sounding beats and synthesized instruments to using a real orchestra. Every time I hear that I think of how difficult it must be to play something so untraditional and erratic.

I definitely hear you on the last paragraph, I'd have to combine the previous 3 tunes I mentioned, add in a murder of Counting Crows, have Bjork and Mum yell at it a little bit, and then let Orbital and Trent Reznor remix it a few times, THEN convert it to MIDI and 8-bit-ify it, have it merged with classic Final Fantasy and Zelda music. Maybe then it would be close to my theme song. :)

I don't understand at all, and agree with Rickard. Watch it, if you don't tell us I'll have to assign you "Ave Maria". ;)
