SL is a virtual world engine ONLY. Some people come here to play games, some to chat and socialize, yet still others to find business opportunities in a virtual world that has advantages over RL in some respects.

SL is not being developed as a game. Just read what the founders and executives have written and said.

Furthermore it matters not, RL-value has been destroyed by the perpetrator. If someone walks into your home and smashes your Xbox and every last GAME is it still a crime?

it is my understanding that many of these misspelling folk who pulp up the forums with irritating nonsense are in fact friends of the very griefers whom they castigate (as many past instances have shown).

I think that the continued, perpetual and often quite serious actions of grievers deserve consideration on the part of LL. Those who benefit from griefing (either in terms of entertainment value or in terms of extortion benefits) may point to the fact that LL technically owns all of the property in world, other than intellectual property, and that this would protect them from something like a class action lawsuit as one would have to be able to prove that one had sustained a loss. This does not mean that it is an unassailable stance; merely that it is the case that griefers and their lawyers would make, were such a thing ever to get to court.

In fact, there are several lawyers who play LL for fun who may have an idea or two about this. I would love to see a town hall meeting over the issue of grief and grievers. We think of griefers as teens, but my understanding after some study is that these folk are typically youngish but no longer teens (certainly prosecutable) and that they are also often tech elitists who imagine themselves beyond the reach of the ordinary people whom they mock in their mispellings, beyond the reach of LL whom they mock by forming fan clubs devoted to Lindens and then use avies with that tag on to grief, beyond the TOS which they mock by making new accounts as soon as they are banned, and beyond the very law which they mock by hacking LL.

Until something is done to take away the benefit (either in terms of entertainment value or in terms of income) that griefers and their supporters receive from griefing, then this kind of nonsense will be the rule rather than the exception. Laughing at poor sods who are fooled into thinking that the trollers are genuine is surely entertainment value.

Of course, a much simpler way to hit people in their pocketbooks is to quit buying goods and services from people who are griefers, members of griefer groups, and their alts.

greifing is an expensive hobby and if we don't support griefers (with money L$$$$L$$$) they won't be able to do it
