Oh but you are soooooo wrong. This is Billy posing a serious question that I have. Looking at the actions and words of Democratic leaders such as Howard Dean it is my belief that some in your party would actually choose #2 and the power over #1 and a political defeat simply because they hate President Bush and lust for power.

Interesting. So you think the Democrats value their political power more than stabilizing the situation in Iraq?

Maybe we shouldn't be in Iraq, maybe we should. I can't say with absolute certainty. But I can say that the political situation right now stinks. Instead of trying to grandstand and bring down our president, everyone needs to be working to find a way to succeed in Iraq.

I have heard people, especially leftists, call for an immediate and complete pullout from Iraq. What do you think would happen if we airlifted every single American soldier out of Iraq tomorrow? We'd simply end up with a new tyrant in power in Iraq. Of course, the same people that demanded a pullout would then blame Bush for the situation.

Do you think people would be more drawn to:
A. A troublemaker who does nothing but accuse his opponents of wrongdoing.
or
B. A person who is a true leader and contributes to the success of democracy in the Middle East, even if he didn't agree with going over there in the first place.

Interesting yet irrelavent to this thread. Please answer the question. Surely you have enough guts to give a straight answer if anyone does. ;)
RTFPSVP (read the fine post s'il vous plait). ;)

I just want a government that responds to the needs of its citizens (Katrina), protects civil liberties at home (NSA spying), doesn't wage war based on lies (Iraq), doesn't detain "enemy combatants" without trial, doesn't actively support torture, and respects the division of power between church and state as well as the executive and other branches. If I could have that along with option number one, I'd take it.

In the end the final outcome will have some elements of both the proposed scenarios.

As an aside we'll soon be to the dreaded 3000 casualty level, where one can say that Bush has killed as many citizens as Osama has. (Although he bested Osama's death count by 97,000, if one takes into account Iraqi dead.)

Seems this has gone on long enough to prove a point. The Democrats hate President Bush so much that given a scenario of total success in Iraq, obviously a good thing for America... and a total failure in Iraq, obviously a bad thing for America... most of you would choose a total failure if it meant you had to admit that President Bush was right and you lost power.

And you wonder why the Republicans hold the House, Senate and Whitehouse? I don't.

Props to Lianne, Toy and Gus who indirectly answered the question.

The question is a very simple and easy choice btw. I’d be interested in hearing from any of you your reason, other that your hatred of President Bush, as to why you couldn’t easily pick #1. I can’t stand President Clinton but had I been asked the same thing with his name inserted I would easily choose #1.

Billy, that you see things in such ignorant and partisan black and white terms says a hell of a lot more about you than it does about anyone who was nice enough to try to engage you in your little masturbatory exercise. This kind of thinking represents the worst of what's wrong with this country, and with the right wing especially.

Because it's a stupid question that mandates a choice between two irrelevancies, each of which has a clear statement attached.

Seriously, you must think we've all just popped out of the womb and have never seen this sort of thing before.

And I thought you were above personal attacks Chip... guess not. Thanks for adding absolutely nothing to this conversation.

Simply pick #1 if you wish to prove me wrong. :)

Seriously I am shocked everyone wouldn't easily pick #1 as I would have done if roles were reversed. I am honestly shocked at how deep the hatred for Presidnet Bush runs.

Exactly. Pathetic.

I just call em like I see em. There was nothing to this conversation in the first place. In a conversation you don't tell other people what they believe. Apologies if your only intent was to be funny, but if you seriously believe any of this then be thankful I exercised restraint in my choice of words :p

How unlike you Ulrika. That is not in the least bit a bold answer. I will ask you directly because respect you and I think you are a strong enough person to give me an honest answer. Why is it so hard to simply say "I like #1"?

Exactly. Pathetic.

What is pathetic is that you CAN'T simply pick #1 and be done with it.

Then simply pick #1 and prove where your priorities are Ordinal. The fact that you can't do that says a lot about how much you "love America".

lol. I knew you'd say that since it's the only comeback available to that one-word response. Congratulations.

Seriously, Billy - I know exactly how this game works. I've done it for years. Either you know and you think that I don't, or you don't know and you really need to look at the sort of question you're asking, and what each of the possible answers mean. I mean, really need to look at them.

N.B. I don't "love America" either

Why don't you cut the horsesh*t and admit that this thread is really about proving what a wonderful and superior person you are?
