Man is Eligible for parole in EIGHT years, after raping a 12 week old baby

What the shit is up with that? EIGHT YEARS? Sure he got life but he could be out in EIGHT years, if he survives that long.

Honestly, I am at a loss, that is the most disgusting, beyond evil thing I have read in a very long time and they think it is acceptable not to stamp on his fucking head and kick the living shit outta him.

I would say he deserves to die, but no, he deserves to be repeatedly tortured for the rest of his damn life.

That baby won't have even started puberty by the time he "may" get out. Seriously... I am just numb, I don't understand a lot of things in this life, but this... beyond unbelievable.

People will do anything. :(

The most difficult lesson to learn, I think, is that people who do things like this belong to the same species as us. Whatever horrors are committed by humans, they are human horrors.

If the prison guards have any sense of justice, they'll leak information of what he's in there for, and make sure he is never put in solitary confinement.

Ok, I would do some nice sarcasm like:

"Hey, maybe the baby was wearing a miniskirt and askin' for it."

But that would be truly tasteless. Seriously, though, this is quite disturbing. I'd expect this in SL, but not RL.

The laws for child rapists/molesters are far too lenient. Everywhere.

Just a week ago (?) a man here in Canada had his sentence SHORTENED, and he raped a 24 month old.

It's infuriating. The best thing I can say is keep writing to your politicians, join groups that deal with this crime, and speak out.

This baby could have been killed from the rape. He should be sentenced with attempted murder, and then shot.

I'll do it myself for free.

I think it depends on what you think the function of the prison system is. If you think that it's restitution or justice, then perhaps yes, he should be killed or tortured for the rest of his life as you said. However, hate or revenge are not the better of our human faculties, and justice is sometimes hard to achieve. Afterall, you might be able to make things equal or as hurtful between the rapist and the child, but how do you make things equal between this child and other children? He/she got raped, the others didn't. Also, what about the injustices that the rapist had to endure throughout his life? Poverty, broken family, failed community, etc. There's a reason you became a rocket scientist and he became a rapist. And that reason does not lie entirely within himself. On the other hand, if you think that prisons should serve to rehabilitate offenders or at least render them harmless (which I think is a better choice), then perhaps eight years is enough. But that's for his parole officers to decide.

He'll be killed in prison within a year, most likely. Child molesters don't tend to last long in there.

A fact that almost makes up for not being able to drag the bastard out into the street and shoot him.

How is it even physically possible to rape a 12 week old child? You would have to be pretty depraved even to WANT to. I believe child molesters should get the death penalty, but barring that it should be a minimum of life in prison for each count they are convicted of...to run consecutively.

And the 19-yr-old woman that helped him (and took pictures of their fun & games) got the same sentence. His sentence was just increassed by 2 yrs, hers was not increased at all.

As far as I'm concerned, I'd stake out both of them in a soundproof room, and then give the parents razor blades and let them have an hour alone with them.

Honestly, some of your thoughts are pretty horrifying. I think the sentences that were given to this pair are absolutely pathetic. But having them tortured would be even worse. I realize it's probably just a way of expressing one's anger about such an injustice. But if a modern government or society participated in the brutal torture of people who had commited horrible crimes wouldn't the thread title be even more suitable?

If you can't do the time, don't do the crime.

What they did, along with many other people in the world today, was beyond forgivable. I think they deserve to go through the exact same pain that child went through, which I can't even begin to imagine without turning my stomach.

They didn't pick on someone their own size, someone who could fight back, not even someone that could yell out help in pain...

I see your point, 2 wrongs don't make a right and all that jazz, but what goes around, comes around and I hope when Karma reaches this pair, its a big fat truck.

My thought wasn't for any sort of torture, they put down rabid and dangerous animals, the same should apply to dangerous human beings. Would be cheaper too.

Yes. As well as crimes like this, what I find truly horrifying is that some people are so quick to invent vile tortures of their own they would like to carry out on the criminal. Doesn't it even occur to them that they are treading the same path?

Yes, and as far as the sentence goes, it was too light IMO. It seems that nowadays crimes of violence are regarded as less important than crimes against property.

People will do anything....*snipsnip*

So will lawyers.

In the past year I think there has been a huge move towards non-sentencing for people who really should never see the light of day again.
one guy got 30 days in jail for rape of a 9 or 10 year old girl (don't remember the details, don't care to). Shortly after that another similar sentence was handed down, in the same US State no less. Now we have an 8 year sentence for rape of a baby.

I'm sure that some lawyer somewhere has a "reason" as to why this sentence is unacceptable (as in to long) for the crime.
With amazingly sick crimes, come amazingly and equally sick excuses for those crimes.

probably because they already stuffed the prisons full of wrongfully incarcerated black men and harmless dope-smokers...:(

A single 45 bullet would do the trick nicely. Justice. Torture would be about vengeance.

Ah. The easy way. Send in Sam Fisher. Sure, I revel in the simplicity, but the quick and cold manner in which I indulge my urge for Black Hat justice does disturb the more innocent part of myself. Don't you think? Sometimes everybody loses no matter what. It just leaves sadness.

*nodding in agreement*

I completely understand the instant flash of rage and desire for violent vengeance most people have upon hearing about an evil act like this. Hell I had it too, just looking at their pictures made me want to poke their eyes out. I understand it, its perfectly normal, but at the end of the day we all know deep down, we dont really want a society that is run that way, that allows for violent vengeance. Deep down even those of us calling for mob killing in the street, all we really seek is justice and for ugly horrors like this to just stop.

Unfortunately, the system we set up, let the people down this time and it will again. Nothing is perfect. It's still better than wild west anarchy but it failed this time.

You're right Copper... Sometimes everybody just loses.

My understanding of this is it was the minimum part of the sentence. Still, an 8 years to life sentence is disgusting, as it does leave the possibility of this scum being released early. :(

There's talking about it, and there's doing it.

I too would love the idea of some nice spiked baseball bats on these terribly evil people.. but like everyone else in this thread, wouldn't actually go out and _do_ it, cause its illegal and immoral.

Only the immoral people would go out and actually do it, and they probably wouldnt talk about it.
