You people need to slow this flame war down. Damn! From: Siro Mfume We didn't enter WWII until we had declared war. This was after we had been declared upon by Japan and it's stated allies (who did officially declare war on us even though it was after a pre-emptive strike). I'll give you that it was isolationist. But at the time there was no such thing as global super power nations and nobody was looking at us to be the world police that we seem to be today. Well, I know the history. The US has always been isolationist, we've always thought we could just sit here on our own continent without getting involved with the rest of the world's problems. But some people knew better back then and realized that the US isn't in a glass bubble, and is affected by world events. It's the same situation we have now. The Arab world is in the middle of a huge crisis with this religious fundamentalism and terrorist hijack of Islam--and these fundamentalists consider us their #2 enemy. (#1 being the Jews of course) If we turn isolationist again, here comes Iran in 10 years with nuclear weapons. Or maybe just a shorter time period, where they've just supplied some terrorists with a dirty bomb to detonate in Israel or New York. From: Siro Mfume Now is Iran a threat to us? Nope. We have nothing, beyond some vague unsupported blustering by their leader, to suggest they are a threat. North Korea, on the other hand, has nukes and rockets that can reach the US. I think the biggest threat so far has essentially saying to Iran, "Hey look, we pounded Afghanistan and crushed Iraq, you're next." If some country took over Mexico and Canada and said, "YOU'RE NEXT", I think we would respond the same way Iran is. The difference is that NK is run by a bunch of assholes that simply want to remain in power. Iran is run by a bunch of assholes who want to remain in power...and wage holy war against the infidels. Are you willing to bet your life (or anyone else's) that Iran can be trusted not to assist Islamic terrorists who want to cause us harm? Actually, since I'm not some bastard dictator, the way *I* would react if I were running Iran would be to start making democratic reforms, stop assisting terrorists (while Iraq wasn't so close to the likes of Bin Laden, Iran most probably is), improve human rights, stop using Islam as an excuse and tool for destruction, stop suppressing democratic reformers, stop kissing up to fundamentalist extremists, stop supporting insurgents in Iraq, stop spreading disinformation about the holocaust, stop threatening Israel, etc. I think if Iran reacted like that, we'd take their name off of the "hit list". But no, they chose to remain the enemies of the free and progressive world. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't do what Ahmadinejad has done since he took over. No, no, I'm fairly positive I'd do...pretty much the exact opposite of everything? From: Siro Mfume Btw, just so we're on the same page here, everything that supposedly justified the war in Iraq has since proven false. So please take any 'information' coming from the current administration with a pound of salt. The humanitarian aid justification has been proven true. They are still finding mass graves, Saddam is on trial for abuses now. WMDs were not found, although there were plans to start developing such weapons as soon as UN sanctions were lifted. I'm not up to date on the terrorism links but from what I recall there were some links, just not really to Al-Qaeda. And the often stated goal of changing the face of the Middle East, seeding democracy and freedom, needs no proof. That said, we don't have to trust everything the Bush administration is saying about Iran, because...once again, *everyone* is concerned about Iran. (Just like everyone was so concerned about Iraq before.) Iran isn't the top UN issue right now because Mr Bush says it should be...

Please refrain from using vulgar language when referring to our world leaders. While we may have our own views on who is doing right and who is a few brain cells short of a pair we don't have to go calling them inapropriate names. Oh good lord - overzealous much? Yet another pointless ResMod action.

Millie, I think you're awful at your job, and I hope you're fired as soon as fucking possible. Sorry for the mixup!

thinking about it, maybe millie is as tired of reading some of the tripe on these boards as anyone else (tripe in both directions) and she has reacted inapporpriately just as so many of us act inappropriately.
Granted, the power of the ResMod must be used responsibly, so I do see the difference between her actions and tacos. But, when you get right down to it, there is more than one jackass in this thread; Millie is not alone.

Meanwhile. Millie, I think slinking off quietly into obscurity would be a good option for you.

You know, if I'm stupid enough to send something inflammatory from work, we have this cute little paragraph along the lines of.. The above does not represent the views, etc. of my employer, etc. but is rather my own assinine idea. Maybe the ResMods need to embrace that when they want to interject their own agendas into threads.

The forums are supposed to be something resembling PG guys And it would be nice if we could get across our point of view without using vulgar language. Please do try to get back to the origional topic of the thread. So if you want to call me a jackass, as you're welcome to do, please do it through PM. Zap - Kamikaze ResMod

Zap - Kamikaze ResMod I see nothing in the TOS about vulgar. For that matter, we never did get a good, solid definition of PG. This is not the 50s in Ohio - jackass is almost affectionate.

Now, back to Iran, war, etc.
We can argue about what's right and what we think will happen until the jackasses come home, however, the cold, hard reality is that unless there is not much else we can do but make noise.
If Bush has a 38% approval rating in the last neutral poll, then there are a lot of Americans who are pretty unhappy. But, will they get off their butts and do anything about it? Doubtful. Are you all calling up your senators, etc. and raising hell? Around 20% of the eligible population doesn't even bother to vote in presidential elections, so I'm not expecting any dramatic public discourse.

Carter, Reagan, Bush 41 and Clinton have all had approval ratings drop as low and lower and recovered. Well Carter and Bush 41 obviosuly did not. Briana Dawson
