That poem the girl wrote reflects her upbringing and the fact that there are many blacks who are extremely racist. Blaming white people of this century for crimes committed against blacks since the 1500's it stupid. I did not enslave any black people so I shouldnt have to feel the heat of anger for those who did.
My husband is black and the one thing i can tell you for sure is that I get more crap said to me by black women than anyone else. Never had a white person call my husband a sell out or oreo or cracker lover. But have had plenty of black folk make derogatory remakrs to me.

FYI, I am 99% sure that the story told on the jacket of that album was pure fiction and was a frame for one of the wildest, most creative entire album/songs ever made
Damn i love that album. Now I gotta go find it and throw it on, that Jam is sick! Yes, Hooch, you're right. It was entirely fake. There's no such newspaper as The St. Cleve Chronicle, and the lyrics were in fact written by Ian Anderson, not by an 8 year old child. If you want the full story, click here. Lots of people still believe the newspaper was real, and that the story is true though. You're also right that it was a phenominal album. I love it too, one of my all time favorites. Anyway, for those unfamiliar with "Thick as a Brick", the story in this thread happens to be oddly reminiscent of the album's fictional backstory, which is why I brought it up. The parallels are almost exact. Young child writes epic poem; poem subject matter is questionable; school freaks out; community parents in uproar; etc, etc, etc. The only part missing here is the rock band showing up at the last minute to save the day by setting the poem to music.

Just because Africans (Along with Greeks) enslaved one another does not justify another race doing the same to them.
Briana Dawson Kiamat wasn't justifying slavery. Kiamat was simply pointing out that Africans engaged in slavery also. Slavery based on ethnicity. How you think that is different than slavery based on race is beyond me. |
