It's like some perverse form of liberal patriotism.

How can you "cause" someone to drop a bomb? Sole responsibility for violence lies with the person committing it, or the person who ordered it.
The kidnappers are wrong for kidnapping, and Israel's response is wrong for perpetuating the unpleasant situation in the middle east now. For every civilian killed, there are dozens of relatives and young men who will, for the rest of their lives, have a reason to hate Israel.
Neither side seems eager to secure peace. From their actions, I'd suggest both sides must have a vested interest in continued hostility.
Musuko. How can you cause someone [as in another country) to drop a bomb? Easily, you drop bombs on them. Let government factions within your own borders attack a neighboring nation-state. Thats how you get bombs dropped on you. But according to your logic, the people ordering the bomb dropping are the sole people responsible so maybe some Israeli General and some Hezbollah higher-up should just meet in the street and fight it out amongst themselves. So let me understand you... Israel SHOULD NOT do anything when their soldiers are kidnapped or when Hezbollah is dropping rockets on buildings in Haifa? Briana Dawson |

The spin on American news (in almost anonymous agreement) is: "Hezbollah/Hamas are to blame, but hey, it'd be nice if Israel would show restraint."

This conflict was triggered when the Israelis shelled a public beach and butchered a family of picnickers. Of course, the Israelis deny it and claim it was a landmine put there by Hamas. It was just a coincidence that the family stepped on the landmine the same day Israel was firing artillery into Palestine.

It's also amazing to me that we (Canada) have 40,000 Canadians in Lebanon, 8 that were killed. 5 in an entire FAMILY.
Our Prime Minister is the ONLY one that has not made PROPER evacuation plans.
Instead, he continues to wash the balls of President Bush and Israel, rather than helping his own people.

That is exactly what I said. People are responsible for their own violent actions, and bombing other people and then claiming "they made us do it" won't wash with me.

In my opinion? The best thing they could do IS nothing. Responding with violence hasn't worked for the decades they've been trying it, has it? If I punch you in the face and you shoot me, all you'll get for your trouble is the disapproval of your peers for overreacting, and the hatred, and possibly vengence, of anyone who was near and dear to me, which simply means the situation will repeat...except next time your attacker might arm themselves better, and you might not have your gun handy. Even thinking selfishly, it's not a sensible thing for you to do.
If Israeli military force wasn't so routinely used against her neighbours, those neighbours might not hate her so much. "They hate Israel/America/the West because they're terrorists" is rubbish. They hate Israel/America/the West because, perhaps, they believe their country/life/lives of their loved ones have been destroyed by Israel/America/the West, and they turn to terrorism because it is one of only a few ways of wrecking vengence they have. Responding to them by bringing more destruction to them only adds fuel to the fire.
So if you think Israel should do something, how about this: pump money, expertise, support and supplies into Lebanon with the aim of helping their country fix itself. A fixed country is able to deal with its own bad eggs.
