Nope no mods at all. Running everything stock, only thing that change that I can think of at all from when it did work and when it did not is the 1.9 update to SL and a 1.21 patch to Battelfield 2 while the grid was down.
gosh dangit, I hate windows XP reinstalls but at this point I guess everything else has been attempted.

Ok do this... If you installed WinXP with laced (preloaded) SP2 or installed SP2 a long time ago then this might fix your problem... Redownload the SP2 patch and reinstall... This is a pain in the @$$ so I'm sorry if this doesn't fix it... If you run DxDiag and get any errors then there is some conflicting problem right there... Memory or no memory that's where you need to start... Also if you want you can right click on My Computer and go to Properties... Go to the Hardware tab and find your Device Manager... Make sure you check your system devices for conflicts in IRQ's and the like... Sometimes it helps in the BIOS to turn off Assign IRQ to VGA (Or PCI VGA) either or it has caused conflicts for me in the past... I have a pretty good notion that SL merely pulls info from XP's list of hardware info instead of probing to find the core of the system... But I could be wrong... And as far as my knowledge goes does SL run on OpenGL or DirectX... I'm thinking it runs on OpenGL but I'm not quite sure... See if you can run some OGL demo's from various places to attempt to "break" it... It might just be that the update caused some problems... Hope ya get this resolved... It sux when yer stuck...
