I am experiencing a serious problem on my desktop: I cannot enter anymore in Second Life. If I try, I get, after a couple of inutes, a message that tells me: Unable to connect to Second Life. Despite our best efforts, something unexpected has gone wrong. Please check www.secondlife.com/status and the Second Life Announcements forum to see if there is a known problem with the service. CLOSE I checked my firewall settings as well as the ADSL modem, but they seems not to be responsible for that. So I tried to post this message to this forum, but when I press «Submit New Thread» I get an error. My desktop is connected to my domestic LAN which is managed by an Ethernet Router/ADSL Modem. So I connected my laptop to the same network and... wow, I was able to enter Second Life again and, as you can see, I can post this message here! So, question: how it is possible that I cannot BOTH enter Second Life and post to this forum from desktop whereas I can do BOTH activities from laptop, since the machines are able to connect to Internet through the same connection? Answer: something wrong in SL config in my desktop. But what? Cache? Anything elese? Should I delete some file? Thank you in advance.

I have had recurring problems with Windows XP's "Internet Connection Sharing Service" (ICS) where even when I tell it that there is no ICS and disable the services, it insists on putting one in. This can screw up your DNS to the point where nothing on the net can be contacted. If you can surf places other than secondlife.com, this is probably not your problem. I wish I could give more detail, but I've got three 'puters, two which allowed me to to kill ICS but the third remains un-killable. I don't have this problem on my Linux box (gratuitous microsoft slur, that).

I would try completely uninstalling any and all versions of SL on the afflicted computer, and clearing the cookies and cache for your web browser. Then re-install SL.
You might want to make sure you have told any anti-virus or other anti-malware programs to keep their hands off SL.
For testing purposes you might try disabling your anti-virus and related security programs for long enough to try loging in to SL.
You might try logging in to the forums using a different browser than usual.

Im having ur same problem, everything worked fine till like couple days ago, now it dosnt seem to even reach the loging server, i get the "despite of our efforts something unexpected has gone wrong blabla.."
Ive tryed it all...uninstall SL empty cache&temp folder, even installed a new windows on a second HD...checked and rechecked router's settings firewall anti virus... nothinq.
Both of my computers wich are on the same router have the same problem and both worked untill a couple days ago, im also having problems using this forum as well, but everything else internet related works just fine.
My isp didnt report any problems or changes and in SL theres an average of 25k users online...looks like its a problem on my network but it also looks like its not...gah o.O

Both of my computers wich are on the same router have the same problem and both worked untill a couple days ago, im also having problems using this forum as well, but everything else internet related works just fine. ... So, it looks like we have the SAME problem, and we begin to have it TWO days ago... I do not trust conincidences. So, let's see what we know: 1. I have four PCs on the same network: three can access SL, one cannot. You have twp PCs and both cannot access SL. 2. The PC that cannot access SL cannot also post on this forum (this is *key* in my opinion) 3. In both our cases the problem began two days ago (now three) 4. In both cases deleting the cach eor reinstalling SL does not solve the problem 5. ICS is NOT involved 6. We can use the affected PC to do anything else in Internet (e-mail, web, forums, ...) I think that whatever is wrong, it affects both SL and access to forum. In my understanding the forums uses the same authorization mechanism to authorize user. But this cannot be a server side mechanism only, otherwise it would affect both of us whatever is the PC we are using, so it must depends on something on our PCs... a registry entry? And someone should have changed something TWO days ago, but what? A Windows patch? A change to SL code to grant access? We *NEED* support from Linden's guys. I am available for tests, but we *need* them!

From: Seagel Neville Have you read these threads? This and this? Seagel, I read the first thread, but I see no technical information that can help me to solve the problem, just a lot of people crying that they cannot log in. However, in most cases, it seems related to the problems the grid had in the past. In my case, I cannot login from a specific PC, but I can from another. Furthermore, from that PC I cannot access THIS forum, but I can access ANY other resource in Internet. So my system is OK, my network too. The problem is that something (a registry key that is not removed when client is uninstalled?) is preventing me to go ahead during all Linden access mechanisms, not just the viewer. We need to speak of technology, analyze facts, not simply say... «hey! I can't login!» «Me too».

From: Seagel Neville Have you read these threads? This and this? I read second thread too. Some of their cases is similar, but none of them tried from a different PC... curious. By the way, no tech info provided. I submitted the problem as «blocker» in the Traking System of LL, referencing this thread. I hope Linden guys will contact me to troubleshoot and fix once for ever this problem that is affecting randomly several users. Please, note that «I cannot login» is just a symptom. It may be caused by different problems. I am trying to catch a specific one.

Started Friday and I did everything I could including completely uninstalling and re installin Sl about 5 times! I even re installed it on a different drive. I checked everything time and time again and was just about to reload Windows and I suddenly managed to get back in without changing anything!?
I have no answers just a mystery!
