Not much to do - I think there are a lot of people in the same boat - just like yesterday. I found sl was so laggy when i got on that i had to sit - i'd take one step and be 15 ft in sl terms away. Also chat was lagging the old "type and have faith - text will appear in 20 seconds or so" Soon resorted to im - which for some reason goes smoother - but then that lagged up too and i froze everytime i tried to get a message out - so ----- relog and back to the crap shoot - Multiple attempts and - no success yet. Supposedly everyone trying to relog - further bungs up the system. Yesterday they closed log ins for some time. Well we are ending 2004 with a whimper her is sl. Anyway - keep trying, there is no logic to it - when you get on you get on. Good luck!!!!!!

No ZsuZsanna, logins are mostly reliable -) There were some (and I guess still are) hardware issues which SL have experienced which are causing the current difficulties, and I know the Lindens are working hard to corrrect it - but take heart, this sort of problem is not frequent at all.

Very madding when I'm trying to set up a memorial for a friend I met in SL that was killed by a drunk driver. |

Our hard working friends at Linden Labs are aware of the problem.
Phillip Linden reported some issues with logins. You can find more here: /3/43/31448/1.html _____________________

Doesn't sound like they are truly aware Phillip's response was that logins are slow I can handle slow, not a problem - but that isn't what is happening...I can't get in at all keeps booting me back to log in screen

Yeah, why has no one offical recognised the problem that many of us are having?
They keep talking about people who are finding SL laggy when they get on, or people who don't log on for a few minutes. There appear to be quite a few of us who can;t log on at all! Please, someone offical addreess our problems! |

It either shows and error message and goes back to the logon screen or hangs and I have to use task manager in WinXP to end sl.. I'd be happy of i could just get on for ten minutes to do a couple things i wanted done. |

They are aware of it, PLEASE WAIT FOR IT TO LOGIN!
12-31-2004 15:35
I don't remember where I read it but please do not exit out of the login before it times out. That apparently loads up the queue and does not leave it when you do.
Does that make sense? Probably not since i am not all that sure of how it works myself, but take my advice: If you are having it lock up, do a warm reboot, and try again. Once you hit connect DON'T TOUCH IT! I had it sit at preparing inventory for over 20 minutes today, and then it logged in. If people keep seeing it sitting at preparing inventory for what *they* think is too long and then do it over and over, everyone's problems just multiply, and the real login wait just gets longer. Patience My fellow SL lovers and addicts, is truly a virtue to carry with you into the new year. _____________________

Doesn't sound like they are truly aware Phillip's response was that logins are slow I can handle slow, not a problem - but that isn't what is happening...I can't get in at all keeps booting me back to log in screen Your login attempt will time out after a set interval of time of no communication from the log-in server. If your client can't shake hands with the login server then you're dropped to the login screen. As they said rather indirectly slow logins are a result of an overloaded slow login server. If the server is overloaded then it will drop or deny connections until it can handle connections again. So we all have to wait for the Lindens to fix things. Gives me time to gather textures for a new avatar ^^ Something I haven't done before... pre-planning an avatar. ![]() _____________________

Yes I read that too but I am not blocking it I sit there and wait and it kicks me back to login screen on it's own so that is not my issue - please lindens a post for those of us that can't get in at all!

I honestly hope LL plans on doing something for the players to reimburse them for lost time. Paying $25/month just to have 3 days of downtime is wrong...it dosen't take a genious to fix a toasted hard-drive, or to detect it dying before it goes. A lil grinding noise, extra heat, slowdowns like the ones we've been dealing with for the past two weeks, are all indicitive of eminate failure if maintenence is not preformed. At max it should have taken 2 - 3 hours to install a new disk, install an OS, and configure the security settings/game server. Holidays or not, we pay for a service, and it is currently not being provided. And yes, I'm getting upset over this....enough is enough, hire some real technicians.

For the love of bits... the Lindens ARE working on the grid's problems!
Check the announcements forum area for updates, like EVERYONE ELSE here who isn't employed by Linden Labs we don't have a clue as to what the problem is aside from knowing about login server issues. Now, one simply can't wave a magic wand and immediately know what the problem is or have it fixed in seconds. Servers, like all electronic devices have MANY components to them. And often times run very complex applications and or huge databases. Now the problem could be as simple as a bad patch cable with a relativly easy fix, or something as complex as a bad power supply damaging mainboards, ram, drives, ect. I've seen servers run fine for months and then something happens where the power supply has a hiccup and fries the power distribution board in a HP LH3000 NetServer. Runs fine for 2 days then blows the RAID card. Then runs for a month and something eats the drive's basic function controller. Or a virus that jumps across network shares to bring down an entire corporate network. I don't know how many Linden Lab employees are working on the grid's issues, but they're only human and can only find problems and fix them as quickly as they can. I myself am an IT Technician who is MCSE certified, I've seen quite a few problems with servers, and know each time someone has a problem with their servers or PCs that each and every problem is considered an emergency of galactic porportions and must be fixed last millenium. With servers, networks, and PCs, NOTHING is ever a quick fix. What you tweak now may end up causing something to blow you a raspberry of epic porportions. It is enevitable, and often times never completely preventable. So as end users to the grid all we can do is wait, and give encouragement to those who maintain the grid and the happiness of all users of Second Life. _____________________
