From: Doc Nielsen On Thursday I was informed that a 7800 card is being ordered for the dev team in order to help them resolve 7 series issues which have emerged since the release of 1.10.
The implication is that LL has been 'developing' SL without having a 7 series card available for QA/Testing purposes.
*sigh* what can you say? $11 million invested and not having up-to-date hardware for the dev team...
So much for 'It's highly likely the developers use firly high end systems. It's innefficient not to.'? Could be running on X1800XT's, or 6800's ( ok not quite current high end but not far off.). Admitadly it is a bit surprising they dont' hacve any 7800's at all tjho.

I believe other Linden staffers have 7 series, indeed one definitely has a 7900, which may be in their personal PC - but the dev team didn't, though by now they should. Probably too late for any 7 series fixes to be included in the next update though, but at least they have finally woken up to the requerement. And I don't think either an ATI card, or a 6 series card can be in any way representative of the 7 series cards, there ARE differences, not to mention enhanced facilities that can be utilised to 'improve the Second Life experience'. So - progress at last, but WHAT a bloody performance to get it!

Frame Rates, New Version, and chance to complain
06-04-2006 02:14
Ok, I get to admit being a bit ignorant here, and am going to ask for some help, so that I too...may learn about how badly I am getting screwed over by the update. <grin>
I can tell what my bandwidth and packet loss are.....how do I tell what my Frame Rate is?

You can't - because if you don't know how to view your framerate in Statistics you can't have checked it BEFORE the 1.10 update, therefore you can't make a comparison - you have no reference and thus can't assess whether your fps has risen, fallen, or remained the same at this point.
Any meaningful comparison has to be made in a sim with no other AVs present, you wearing the same attachments, at the same coordinates, with exactly the same fov, and you need to know that nothing has been added to or removed from that area between taking each measurement.
However, Ctrl/shift/1 and it's right at the top - FPS on the left and the figures on the right, flicking on the actual 'FPS' text will expand/collapse the view.
NOT to be confused with SIM fps lower down in the 'Simulator' sub-menu (hint - that one should always be 45)

From: Doc Nielsen Hmmm, 'blind mode' Oh well, at least it got you online! Could be time for a graphics upgrade by the sounds of it, 6600s are dirt cheap and they DO seem to work ok - at the moment... Yup. Hehe. Hey I figure I'm starting work in a little under a month. Hellooo paycheck. Of course then I won't be able to USE the card till I find an apartment away from my family's area where as far as I know, highspeed internet does not exist (oh yeah, we're out there). But graphics card is one of several computer-related things on my list. Dealing with the blurry textures will have to do for now, though.
