I know there are probably tons of threads on this, but I really wanted to post here, to get some definitive feedback.

Thanks in advance.

The first bug has been going on a while, that's INCREDIBLY annoying, and has picked up even worse as of late, that everytime I IM certain people (the same certain people), I get spammed with "Seola Sasson is online". This is not only annoying, but I believe it's connected to the second issue.

Secondly, and MOST important to me, I am losing random IM's. Even after a relog, I don't get them, the second relog I do. It's from all kinds of people, right in the middle of conversations. The conversation keeps going, it isn't til I check my mail, or relog twice that I see that I missed something.

This is increasing in frequency. Can we PLEASE get help?

Offline/online and getting logged out problems
06-09-2006 02:55
I am posting to Second Answers to draw your attention to a collection of problems that may or may not be connected.

I am still finding that friends are showing offline and then online again when they teleport.

I am still finding that my IMs are very unreliable, with some going to my email immediately even though I am online, some turning up days later, some disappearing forever.

I am finding that I get email copies of IMs which don't appear when I next log in - I am rarely capped due to lots of messages, and so I don't think it is that.

I am finding that I show offline when online and online when offline, and so do friends on my IM list.

Lastly and very importantly, a potential client of mine is finding that they are logged off when they tp, like the people in this thread:
/111/a5/111632/1.html

I am wondering if all these things could by some chance be related....

Moved to Technical Issues for open discussion.

Seola, I'd certainly like to find out more about what's happening here.

Both of these may be "presence" related--if you've done a search for that on the forums, yes, you're not alone.

The first one is bizarre; it sounds like the show online notification is alerting yourself that *you* are online? I'll check that one out closer because I've not heard of it before.

Specifically, for the second, does this happen at any particular time? Can you be sitting still and lose IMs? Or, does it happen when you teleport? Specifically, IMs to you get sent as if they're offline messages--to your email inbox--when you teleport? If so, that's a known bug and in the queue to be fixed.

Definitely sounds annoying... more Residents with similar experiences, please post your details! And once you have a solid repro, don't hesitate to send it in to us: HELP menu > REPORT BUG for the reason it helps us fix it faster. Thanx.

Cali, I've also merged your post because this does sound related and it's good to have this info tied together.

I've bookmarked this thread for revisiting.

Sorry for the late response, but here goes:

It's stating that the person I am talking to is coming online and offline. I just used my name to not name anyone else. Sorry for the confusion. In fact, my SL partner is the main person I am having problems with this, every 1-2 IMs I send him, it pops up with "So and so is online".

Any time at all, I can be on a pose ball, I can be dancing, I can be standing still, at anytime at all, it happens. I will even have people who are IMing me, that are dancing right next to me and losing their IMs, noticing in my email later that I missed a few messages. Just as tonight, I was getting a part from a vendor fixed, I said sent, she says 'sent back' and I hadn't gone anywhere and her IM was in my email, popped up on relog.

I have had both of these. The first happens quite frequently but doesn't personally bother me. The second I've had happen sporadically and is annoying as hell. Problem is it happens that infrequently I personally can't give LL anything worthwhile to track it down.

An interesting instance of this

Have 'sort of' the same problem.

I was standing in Extreme (casino) and was clicking on the Turtle. It should tell me that I've been added to the raffle and what I need to do....It uses llInstantMessage to do so.

It made its public announcement, but I didn't get the IM. I clicked again (which should generate an IM, but no public announcement). No IM again.

Checked email...IMs from Objects in email!!!

So I IM'd people in world - held conversations with them, no problem.

Clicked on turtle...IMs being sent to email.

Asked around in sim - others reporting exact same problems as I was experiencing.

Filed bug report.

(As usual, have heard nothing on bug report and am unable to check status of it)

I have quite a few people who are showing "offline" when they are actually online.

Getting loads and loads of "so and so is online" when they are already online and in fact in an active IM convo with me. Seems that if there is a lull in the convo and I send an IM, I get notified they are online ... well, kinda already knew that.

But the newest oddest thing was last night ... someone came into the sim and seems the "invisible avatar" bug is back. Name showing and never went away (have avatar names shown temp). At first i was hella foncuzed cuz there were 2 names on my radar (outside of the 3 of us who were already there) but only showing 1 name, and 1 body. When i realized what was going on, asked for the person to take off the invisible script - didn't have one on. Avatar body never did show up and name never did go away.

Logged into email for my SL account today, and there are IM messages there where he was IMing me about me saying he was invisible. Come to find out didn't know of this old bug and was looking for info. I never got the IMs in world. As far as I know, this is the first time I've not gotten in-world IMs since no one's mentioned it.

Thought I'd contribute with the thought that if the invizi avi bug is back, could it be related?

The online but off or offline but on, last I IMed Live Help about it (a month ago) was a known bug and to "sumbit a bug report."
I even did one where I was standing next to a friend who was online, not showing up in Profile or Friends, did show up in search (or some other even weirder combo).

And the notifications aren't just:
1) IM
2) So-and-So is online

but also
1) IM
2) So-and-So is offline
3) IM
4) So-and-So is online

I'll let you guys know if I see this "online/offline" confusion myself.

Re: "Other Person's Avatar Invisible Bug Reappearing?", there's another thread related to this:

I, too, get the 'online'/'offline' pop ups. It's not only when they teleport, but I believe when i'm in IM with them. It seems that when I IM them after a few minutes have gone by, they'll immediately sign back on, as if they were offline before.

When 1.10.1 was released, I was crashing constantly, and I couldn't play the game. When 1.10.2 was released, everything was ace - didn't have ONE problem. Now that 1.10.3 is here, it won't let me stay in game but for 2 seconds without crashing. PLEASE, for everyone's sake, is it possible for a 'text server' to be implemented? This is getting out of hand. Bugs are to be tested BEFORE they reach the mass public.

It doesn't help to see that my posts are always completely shunned and ignored. I'd TRULY appreciate an answer as to why I am crashing, when everything was completely stable before (in 1.10.2).

I've noticed that "so-and-so is online" spam quite a bit recently, and it seems to be tied to moving from sim to sim, probably from teleporting. I have been talking to friends in IM who are roaming/exploring around the world, and just about every time they TP to a different sim, the next IM I send them spams me back with "so-and-so is onlne". I've asked them if they have crashed, most of them have said no.

Also, I have been noticing the occasional ghost player who shows up as "online", but is actually offline. I think it is tied to a bug which occurs when someone has logged out, but you send them an IM before you are notified that they are logged out, and you see the "so-and-so is offline" then an almost instant follow-up message "so-and-so is online", and they show up as online even though you know they aren't, and until you send them another IM, where it responds about them being offline and it will store the message until later. This seems to happen only for people not in your same sim, so I think the online/offline notifier is bugged with a synchronization issue, which now extends to when people teleport from sim to sim.

It's continuing to happen. Just thought I'd let you know it's a constant.

In personal IM's, again, both of us in the same 10m, and getting that bug.

In fact, it happens EVERYTIME with a certain person, so if you want specifics, I'd be happy to share them, just don't want to post specifics in the forum... I like at least minimal privacy! :)

It happens randomly with others though.

ETA: BTW, it never tells me they went offline, just
"BooBoo is online.
BooBoo is online.
BooBoo is online.
BooBoo is online.
BooBoo is online.
BooBoo is online.
BooBoo is online.
BooBoo is online.
BooBoo is online.
BooBoo is online.
BooBoo is online."

Hence the frustration.
