One of the classic old frequent bugs, "Other person's avatar is invisible, fix it by changing active group", which used to plague me and many other people, appears to be happening again. I've had to tell a number of people the "change active group" trick lately. I hadn't seen this problem much or any for a good while nor had I heard of others having this problem much lately either.
Anyone else having or hearing of others having this problem?

Yes, Suez, It happened to me yesterday. I didn't know "changing active group" trick but I always ask people who disappear to enter the appearance mode once (no change and close). That also works.

What do you mean, reappearing? It never went away for me.

From: Candide LeMay What do you mean, reappearing? It never went away for me. This is one that used to occur to me all the time, to the point where it would bug when I would gripe about it and people would tell me the "change active group" trick and I would have to explain to them that I knew the the change active group trick quite well because I had to use it 20 times a session or more for the past six months, or words to that effect. I don't spend all my SL sessions right at the junction of 4 crowded sims, the Ahern welcome area, hopping from one sim to the other, like I used to. That might explain partially why I wouldn't personally have as much problem with other's avs invisible expect for attachments problem. The "Other Person's Av Invisible" bug has occurred since day one of the forums, and presumably before. It's existence as a problem has been denied by the Linden staff and despite the hundreds of bug reports I filed back when it plagued me all the time they wouldn't even put it in the old bug database. I hope it is not becoming more frequent than it has been. Sorry to hear it never stopped for you. A program designed to allow distant interaction between people using avatars should put "displaying the avatars" at the top of the priority list, so it seems to me.

But obviously not to a company more interested in providing poorly implemented and unrequested shiny™ rather than fixing bugs

This glitch is a personal fave of mine. SideBar: I have been meaning to change out some stuff on my machine, but haven't been having any problems at all lately and therefor am afraid to touch anything lest my little SL performance house of cards comes crumbling down from the slightest jarring. The fact that I fear upgrades that will improve my machine will ruin my experience is sad

Hasn't happened to me lately, but I've had to tell a LOT of people to change active groups.

I'm not sure the thing ever really left us. I've noted it on several occasions, at least since 1.10 arrived/crashed/whatever you want to call it. I've had people look at me and say, "All I see is hair and shoes, how'd you get invisible?" At least changing groups still works, so it's not too bad.

This problem went away for about a week, but then reappeared. It seems to happen more often around people I spend a lot of time with rather then people I have just met.

From: Candide LeMay What do you mean, reappearing? It never went away for me. Ditto. The "Swap your active group to make avatars appear" bug has been there as long as I can remember, and hasn't let up since.

I have this too. It's so annoying. There seems to be a lot of bugs related to things not properly rezzing. You should *never* have to go into Appearance or swap groups to get things to rez properly. I hope LL makes fixing this a priority.

I've never known this bug to go away. It's been around for several months now at least and has consistantly shown itself for me every couple of days.

I've been summoned. *blush* I've had this problem too, often. It's certainly annoying--especially because I haven't seen a solid repro. It still happens to me to this day. So that's what's needed to nail it--if any of you, or someone reading this, knows how to make it happen reliably. Here's how I've come across it, typically: - I teleport into an event happening across more than a single region (e.g., those "four corners" concerts like the ones at Clovers Auditorium) with numerous avatars around. The Ahern-Morris-Bonifacio-Dore Welcome Area, since it's split across regions, also is a good place to look.
- I wait for things to rez.
- I see chat from people who're presumably nearby, but after waiting for longer, I still don't see them. Only attachments, if they're wearing 'em.
- Changing active group title of course shows them again.
This sometimes happens if I notice relatively high packet loss in a single region. "Change active groups" is a pretty weird workaround. Some have said, well, if that fixes it, why not do something to simulate it each time you teleport--if it wouldn't be intensive? I don't know but I'm certainly curious, so I'll ask. This bug has been entered in our database for a long time, as something in need of a better step-by-step way to make it happen. I have this thread bookmarked and will be revisiting.

Not only is the invis bug increasing in frequency again, the teleport error has been coming up again, especially today. I have had it happen 4 or 5 times so far today.

It's back

I have also had these probs with disapearing AV's like everyone says change your active group, but why should we. Also TPing, my mouse pointer has the waiting hour glass on it sometimes for a very long time, TPing back home my AV reverts to the day 1 Noob shape, Log out again log in again. Or my AV has her knees bent and her feet stuck in the ground, Log out, log in again.
It feels like Deja VU here. I'm noticing a lot of the serious bugs now from the hugely failed Version 1.7. Is it rearing it's ugly head yet again ?
