Okay, immediately upon login, I run into these problems:
People who move into my rendering distance do not render, only their objects, even if they're right next to me, less than a meter away. This happens randomly, but more people don't render for me than do, and it's already started causing problems in Rainbow tiger. (Just seeing a pair of leg bracers sidle up next to you and start talking is a little unnerving.)
Also, I can *only* select 16mb for my graphics card memory. I have 128mb but can *only* use 16mb. This is after forcing a graphics hardware detection.
If I find more bugs, I'll post them, but these I've found within 30 minutes of login.

I'm seeing this one too.

Hrm.. I haven't had any issues with my video memory selection what type of card are you running? I got an overclocked eVGA GeforceFX 5500 256MB AGP card. If you're running an ATI card looks like we might have another ATI problem.
As for the avatars disappearing I've noticed this back in 1.8.1 before reversion 9 (1.8.1(9)) and it happens only rarely. I've done a bug report on it already myself.

Here's the most glaring bug I've noticed so far. Move the camera, FPS drops to a stand still. Touch an arrow key to return the camera to normal position, and FPS returns to normal.
This has been going on since 1.7. It got better in the later versions of 1.7, but now it's worse than it's ever been. This is really annoying, and it makes building take forever.

I've never suffered from that either, odd. Just tried it inside a busy club and my fps dropped by 1 FPS from 8 to 7 and rose to 9.2 when I zoomed back in. No stalling what so ever.

Not seeing that on any of my test machines, you should be able to get around the hardware detect by adding -noprobe to the end of your target line in the shortcut ie "C:\Program Files\SecondLife\SecondLife.exe" -noprobe

Hmm, I didn't see this thread before starting another, but yeah, I'm experiencing the 16mb video memory issue, with an nVidia 6800 256MB. Wonderful.

Giving SecondLife the -noprobe option didn't help. It still insists 16mb is it. Anyone else have any luck with it?

vid RAM (& other bugs *STILL* in SL since 1.7!)
01-25-2006 19:18
I have the 16MB vid RAM limit too, despite having a 128MB GeForce 6600GT. The textures are all blurry now! OK, I just tried WITHOUT "-noprobe" and it let me select up to 128MB vid RAM. Weird.
Hmm, is it me or can the camera move further back now (using alt+LMB and move mouse down)?
Wish the extended ASCII character in Windows profile name bug would be fixed already! Having to constantly logon as admin is REALLY getting tiresome!
Disabling fog and selecting objects STILL makes the fog turn yellow and only occur on those objects that were selected (even after deselecting them).
Come on, LL, fix these things already please! Do NOT add new features until existing bugs are fixed! This is BASIC software design philosophy 101, guys...

Seems to be an nVidia bug since everyone who's experiencing this is using an nVidia card.
So what version of the drivers are you using?
I'm currently using NGO Optimized verion 8.212 wich is based off the 82.12 beta drivers and I'm not suffering this issue.

Okay...I haven't checked what the setting is for my graphics card because I didn't think that the new upgrade was gonna change it. I'm not at home right now so I can't check. But the problem I'm having was described above. When I move the camera my client freezes to a hault. It took me about 3 minutes to move an item from one end of my castle to the other end last night.
I have 512MB DDR2 SDRAM and the NVidia GeForce 6800 256MB Graphics card. (PC is a P4 3.0Ghz).
I'm hoping this "Known Issue" is the cause of my problems so it can be fixed...I have never had this problem before.

Lag problems
01-26-2006 10:04
I have noticed the player FPS has gone down somewhat and there is a bad lag effect since the 1.8.2.6 update, I have never had these problems before and everyone I have been speaking with seem to have the incresed lag as well.

I'm using a Radeon 9600 with 1268Mb. The memory recognition & setting is ok, however, during connection in the "Recaching" period this latest version always crashes.

Don't confuse slow framerate/freeing for lag. Lag is when it takes longer than usual for packets for movement in a game take longer than usual to go back and forth making movement glitchy or slow. Thus Lag. Slow framerate or freezing are just that. Some people can't tell the difference and it becomes really annoying trying to figure out if people complaining of lag are having network troubles or video card trouble. Anyways, enough rant, I think the removal of the texture cache feature has broken more than fixed stuff as my thread here: /111/8e/84598/1.html points out. As you can see my vid card but I get 128Mb option fine, never had to change it really.

81.95 drivers here. With apropriate matherboard 845 Intel Chipset drivers installed so that full AGP use is availible. Without Intel INF drivers, the Nvidia drivers on my machine will defualt to PCI mode making things much slower.
So check that front page of your nvidia display settings page and make sure it says "AGP 4x" or similar on the front page. (Usually the very top option in the menu named after your card)
This is only applicable to Intel Chipsets which I guess are for Intel Processors. I dunno about other chipsets. I remember my VIA mainboard before needed drivers for the AGP bridge.
