Voice not working

hi all,

I tested to see if it was the 401 error and it´s not, but still, voice doesn´t work.
I m on an iBook G4 10.4.10. i run sl without running other software.
i´ve posted a screenshot from my debug console here:

Ah…well just curious. There was an issue a few months ago with SL and a service provider in Holland. It was fascinating to follow in the thread as ppl realized they were all from Holland.
Anyway…hope it gets resolved real soon for you all.

I think Taylor is fixed, I am not. Haven't heard a word from Maddoc yet. My support ticket's been completely ignored, at least that is how I feel. (no response to a ticket filed friday yet another ticket filed Sunday has already been resolved, live chat resulted in "there's not much I can do except escalate it" and that was Monday as well) I thought maybe each little voice update will fix the issue. I did not come to SL for voice but I voice with my friends often and have been teaching over text and now want to use voice to do that.

What a hassle. I'm going to try live chat help again today. I'm not expecting a resolution, just a little bit of info or an update.

DaQbet: I understand what you thought- and had that idea myself. I can remember way back everyone (in my small select group of friends) who was in the UK was getting intense packet loss, yet the rest of us weren't. Offhand I said something like "I bet it's just a route gone wack" and no one believed that until the official word from the blog said that there was a problem with a route. It definately happens.

im shocked, they added something to SL and it doesnt work, gee thats new /sarcasm, i never expect them to implent anything latly that will work, feel sorry for whoever manage this mess nowadays.

I have this same problem, the active speakers box shows no one, the talk button is faded out, no dots on anyones head.

I have tried everything i can think of and i tried the debug but it didn't come up with a 401 error.

Does this mean it is my firewall??

I don't know what else to try really

I think there are inworld groups for voice help (voice mentors offhand...). I hope that they help you! You can also try a support ticket but first try the inworld help options as usually they are faster (and sometimes more helpful).

On an offside- to anyone reading this, please don't IM me inworld to troubleshoot your voice if you've already done the steps above and you can connect to the voice servers. I have attempted this for a few then pointed them back here as I am just not good at 'support'. It's why I am 'grand master network queen mother of all servers' at my dayjob and not desktop support.

Ahh thanks for your help Kesseret I was looking for inworld help but couldn't find any.

I will give them a try and see if they have any suggestions i haven't already tried

The voice works for me now, i have opened some ports on my adsl modem, they are here :

SL:

TCP 443
TCP 12043
UDP 12035
UDP 12036
UDP 13000

Voice server:

TCP 5060
UDP 5060
TCP 5062
UDP 5062
TCP 5059 - 5063
UDP 5059 - 5063

After open the ports you must extinguish your adsl modem and reboot it (sorry for my english). Hope will works for you too

ok so i tried all the voice mentors i could get hold off, they had no idea.

I guess i will have to send a ticket.

Should i be able to see peoples white dots even if i don't join the chat? cause i cannot see any dots or hear anyone.

Is it safe to open ports in the modem, isn't that like leaving gaps in your firewall? and anyway u shouldn't have to do that really, i mean other peoples chat works fine straight off.

So i am thinking one of two things, my brand new mic is broken or my SL is lol.

I am inclined to think it is SL, for various reasons. Oh well i can hope and pray!!!

Voice is the ruin of SL

You know i never really wanted to try voice, but then when your friends are all talking and u cannot join in, it sucks, people seem to find it hard to talk and type also, esp if u are having 2 differemt comvos.

Its horrid I just hope i can fix mine, if my friends didn't use it i would not be bothered

..all I ever seem to get is people saying "Can you hear me? Oh cool, it works, bye".

I've yet to have a proper conversation with anyone. Maybe its the places I hang out (when I'm not scripting), but it seems like a bit of a failure to launch. Like having the only telephone and noone to call.

So it hardly seems worth wearing an uncomfortable headset all the time just for this.

Alright, so...I have no 401 error, I see no dots, my talk button is greyed out, and no one hear me. Pretty much exactly the same thing as Inara. Some help be seriously awesome at this point.

And yes, I've done all the suggestions in this thread and others.
