any white dot on the top of your avatar's head? or did you see a connection to voice server message? if not, it means you are not connected to the server, could be settings, could be firewall, could be wrongly inserted mic/headphone etc.

I am going to ask the obvious question here.. does your headset/mic work in windows? Have you checked your settings in the Recording panel in windows volume control to ensure your microphone is adjusted appropriately? Is your windows default recording device set to the proper hardware?

yes headset works and is properly configured..i can use ventrillo/teamspeak and other various chat programs..just not the S/L
everyone says your supposed to have a dot or something over your head.. i do not and do not see others with one. its as if my s/l is without the sound program installed
ok so it appears that i can not connect to the voice server for some reason
Help...

I'm having the same issues. I find it very strange that my mic setup works in THERE & Skype, yet does not work in SL. It's proof that I am configured right or it wouldn't work, but in SL I get nada.

Everyone, I had this issue as well- had- really I still have the issue. Here's what you need to do to find out if you have the same problem I have. Before troubleshooting make sure voice is NOT enabled.
1. Turn on debug console - Client-> consoles->debug 2. Once that is done, make sure no one IMs you or anything b/c it may be hard to see the results 3. Enable voice. 4. Check the debug output and look for a 401 Unauthorized when you try to authorize agaisnt the vivox server (bhr.vivox.com or brh.vivox.com - I cannot remember)
Some other symptoms of this issue are - you get a blue box stating (in the bottom corner by the voice thing something like "initializing voice channel this may take up to a minute".
I'm going to spare you the 3 days of firewall log reading, testing if my ISP allows SIP ports, and all the junk I had to do - the only way to fix it if you have a 401 unauthorized is submit a trouble ticket to LL. I filed mine Saturday evening and have been waiting a response today, so hopefully they will get to it.
I can log into an alt account and voice to my hearts content but I cannot voice under my normal user account. If you move computers it's the same issue. I hope that this helps someone as I was pulling my hair out and had almost filed a JIRA except it is account specific so best thing to do is file support ticket.
Otherwise the debug log (if you are not experiencing the same issue) is very helpful in figuring out where the communication issue is breaking down (on Client side or Vivox side).
Any questions or need help diagnosing or troubleshooting or anything feel free to IM me ingame, I'm glad to help!

Here is the error in the logs. INFO: LLVoiceClient::loginResponse: Account.Login response (401): Unauthorized For grins and giggles I bypassed my Linksys router. Same exact error. Looks like there is a JIRA ticket for this issue. https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-2002

This is good information. I tried to help someone last night who said her alt could use voice just fine, but her…nada. She too filed a support ticket. I’ll pass this along.

Grim that's my main accounts issue - file a support ticket. Wait for LL. Good luck, as I am as well. LOL I just realized- that's my husband who filed that JIRA ticket on my behalf. As I said, all the testing has been done, it's account specific.

I made a group (inworld) called 401 Unauthorized- if anyone wants to join it so we can band together and keep in contact regarding support ticket answers etc or if anyone needs help troubleshooting or finding debug log to put in their support ticket. That way when one person gets it fixed the others have a clear step to getting it fixed.
We suffer from a problem- we are 401 Unauthorized.

It's seriously imperative that you go and vote for the JIRA, 8/7 is triage. The more people that vote for this 401 Unauthorized issue the more chances it gets to be placed on the list of stuff to be discussed and taken care of. I beg, implore, plead, and even cry just a tad to please go vote for this. Even if you are not having this problem remember all the times others have voted for something you wanted, and help a fellow resident out!!!! Thank you very much: JIRA LINK: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-2002Thank you, thank you! Thank you! I thank you so very much!!!

DaQbet - No, Taylor and I discussed the possibility of location and we are far across the world from eachother and on opposite hemispheres. I'm not sure *how* it happened except a our accounts are just database records and we broke in the transfer (guessing here).
I wanted to know if anyone who has this 401 Unauthorized error - if they tested Voice in Firstlook or on the Beta Grid. I did not so I don't know if I was able to use voice either on beta or main grid.
Anyway...still waiting. Live chat resulted in my issue 'being escalated' so maybe I will be lucky (like some people *jealous*) and come home today to voice working.
