First of all I got booted from SL after SL crashed, then.. When i try to log back in I get a notice saying "Login Failed the system is logging you in from another location right now. Your account will not be available until 20006-05-17 11:42:24 Pacific Time."
How can this be? What does it actually mean? Anyone else seen this before?

I don't know. I always end up in the same spot, only happens after a crash, for me.

AFAIK its because you havent properly been logged out.. so SL thinks your trying to log in on the same account from different locations..

This happens to me all the time, lately, and I don't think it has always been after a crash.
The first time I saw it, I misread it and went nuts frantically changing all my passwords, thinking it was someone ELSE logging in on my account, lol.
Anyway, what does it mean? Why are they logging me in from another location?

Most likely you have a dynamic ip address, and when you disconnected and reconnected you were assigned a new IP address. It usually takes a few minutes for your old IP address to time out, and then you can just log back on. The "location" they are probably talking about is the IP address you were assigned the first time before you were disconnected. It happens.

I dunno `bout you, but I think that a twenty-thousand-year wait is a wee touch too much!

From: Luthien Unsung Okay but what do they mean "The system is logging you in from alnother location right now"? I believe this happens when the sim crashes and it's not back online when you try to come back in. It can't log you back into the crashed sim so it logs you onto another location. Not 100% sure about this though. Perhaps a Linden could clarify.

I moved this to Technical Issues. ^^ This is what's called a "presence bug", meaning the system doesn't correctly detect when you are logged on/off. Some previous related posts: /139/a2/106781/1.html/139/d2/104436/1.html/111/30/104166/1.htmlSome of the causes of this have been worked out since 1.9.0 and there are more which are going to be addressed so you can relog smoother after a crash. The error message isn't the most comprehensible, I know. And to clarify, because it's come up a few times: noone's suspended! Effects of this should last, at most, for a few minutes. If you get wedged for several hours with that message, with a time that continues to go up and up, that's serious--email me at torley@lindenlab.com if this happens to you.
