Sims not rendering properly... Map Issues?

Today is my first day in the game and honestly, Im quite discouraged. On more than one occasion, I've logged in... looked up a nice place to visit on the World Map, and flown there only to find this bug.

The world map shows me at the location I desire to be, however, there is nothing there in my world, or on the Mini-Map.

On one occasion there were many people there, and we could chat with eachother. They said they could see me, but there was absolutely nothing but water from what I could see. This appeared to be an entire region/sim.

Logging out and then back in did not fix the problem. Changing my relog settings did not fix the problem. Now...when I log in I am automatically logged in at Ahern, and theres nothing past it. The boardwalk just disappears. Everyone else there said they have the same problem. The sim/region directly south is non-existant.

Is it me or the game? What can we do about it?

Since you talked to people, I'm assuming you've sat in one area for a few minutes...

You chose an "interesting" day to join - yesterday a version upgrade was put out, and there were some minor server-side issues that caused problems until 8 or 9pm PST.

But on the off-chance you didn't: Remember that SL must stream all of the data about a region to you, every time you visit it. This is because people can build and change the landscape at will. So whenever you travel somewhere, you'll generally have to watch and wait a moment as bits and pieces "rez" before your very eyes. Things will fill in over the course of a minute or two.

Of course, if you're seeing ONLY water and not even the terrain - then that points to possibly a more serious bug.

Do you know your system specs - CPU type & speed, OS, Graphics Card, etc? If so, please post them here and we'll be happy to try to help.

No im having the same bug as him i have a thread here titled "blue skies" because blue ski and water is all i can see, i can hear streaming music, and see the chat of people around me, i am a more experianced problem and i was on the morning of the update but sence the update i have been unable to see myself/ land/ anyone else/ building... anything! The clock is right, and the sun sets and rises normally. I have no clue how to fix this. Ill post a link to my thread if you want to see what i have tried so far. Its all failed for me.

Yep...East coast here. Boston to be, near-exact (LOL).

My specs are pretty good, as I just upgraded my PC.

Im quite positive that I hung around long enough for it to res if that was the problem. It wasnt. I was there for at least 5 minutes or more, in each place. I noticed that Im STILL having the problem even today. Its just that certain sims dont load, but I can still communicate with the SL'ers in the sim, and they can see me as if Im actually visiting as normal.

Here are a couple screenshots of the issue:

This is me standing on the boardwalk in front of the Ahern telehub, where newbies first log in. You'll notice that most of the boardwalk abruptly ends where the next sim is supposed to start. The missing sim is called "Morris"



This is the view from the "end" of the boardwalk, looking into where Morris should be. The avatar you see "floating" out in there is *NOT* flying. She walking on the ghost of the boardwalk, which I cannot see.



Here, a pic from above, shows the clear absence of Morris. Only ocean exists in its place.

Upon discussion of this problem with the many people in Ahern, it seems that it was only happening to me at this time, but they too have experienced it in the past. When I took these screens, they could all see and use morris as it normally would appear.

Reloging does not help.

I've experienced something similar, the sim just drops off into water and sky, but the thing is, when I cross into the "empty" sim by accident or just not paying attention to where I'm going, SL crashes and relogging forever gives me this message "connection to region" and never goes past it. This is especially frustrating when I'm missing an event I was supposed to be hosting like this morning. I haven't been able to log back in for three hours now. Why can't it just plop me in another region if it can't connect to the region I was in?

In such situation change your "Login location" preferences to "My home" and try to log again

If it werent for the avatar floating on a ghosted boardwalk, I would say that the neighboring simulator was simply down. The Welcome area is built on a sim border so that it can accomodate more people by spreading the load between two servers.

Perhaps it only happens to one person because that area is not in their cashe, and everyone else had it in their cashe before the sim was screwed up.--just a thought.
Any Linden troubleshooters in our lands?

This is EXACTLY what happens to me...particularly when I try to teleport to one of the regions that are missing. When I do telelport, I am actually teleported into another demension where I cannot move at all... my avatar is locked in a position. Then when I log out and log back in, I get the "Connecting to region" error.



Or a you can click this link: secondlife://Eaton/199/133 to log into another region. But that still doesnt fix the problem.




I dont think this is the problem because I've been to this area and its worked correctly before for me...so it should be in my Cache. But I dont know how the game works either, so I could be wrong. I've filed a bug report a couple days ago. How long does it take them to respond usually? Will I be helped before I have to cancel my 7 day trial? (The 8th...)

To be honest, the only way you're going to get to talk to a Linden is by calling their support number. As far as bug reports and support emails go, LL is notoriously bad at actually sending responses.

This does not appear to be an isolated issue with just a few players in certain areas of the US (I am in North Carolina, BTW). Since the latest update, I have:

logged-in, only to be completely invisible
logged-out, only to get a "delayed write" error in the SL Cache
logged-in, teleported to one of my group properties, only to find, in mid-teleport, that that sim has suddenly disappeared
logged-in, and not see neighboring sims (blue skies)

I have uninstalled and reinstalled SL FOUR times today (Sunday). I have defragged, run Norton WinDoctor and Disk repair - no problems. I did a packet loss test and found about 30% combined packet loss from Level3 in Atlanta (I use BellSouth - my connection with them terminates in Atlanta, and had NO loss) to Linden Lab out in California. Maybe some is related to this packet loss, but since the latest update SL has been barely playable for me. In fact, the last few days have been worse than my entire second life since being born in June 2004.

This is NOT typical of SL, however. With the exception of scheduled down-times, I have always been able to log-in and have a great time whenever I want.

I am a bit surprised that there has been no mention of these problems from the Lindens.

It one thing to pay for a game that doesnt work, but to pay for a game who's "support team" ignores serious issues that many of its players experience is unacceptable. Since it was a beautiful and promising 7 days, I might check it out later. I doubt it though. There are many other games that actually work.

I had in fact just decided to let the 9.95 be charged and be done with it, after all it is only $10, and it might get fixed later, but I logged in today and cant even play. No matter where I go, IM stuck in space and cannot move. Oh well. Since it was a beautiful and promising 7 days (when I actually could play....), I might check it out later. I doubt it though. There are many other games I like that actually work.
