HUD's appearing in snapshots was probablynot what was intended for 'improved HUD rendering'

Not only that but names also appear above avs. I hope this gets fixed soon. And yes the "UI in snapshot" checkmark is off. Also it seems that some HUD's that have overlaying text for the various controls are move difficult to read. For example I have a pose control HUD that show which pose I want to display, before the update the text was nice and clear (high contrast). Now it is very difficult to read, looking almost "dim". A good comparison would be a LCD clock with a week battery, you can see the display but very faintly.

I'm getting dots in photo when I take them in high-res. I have already uninstalled and reinstalled, which has fixed this type of problem in the past.

Text in Snapshots?!!
03-01-2006 15:56
Quote from Known problems thread: * Snapshots taken in-world are now showing Name Tags, Text and HUDs...

WHY??!!

I am a designer, and now making ads for my designs is an editting nightmare. Due to release my new designs today, I can't take decent pics of them. I am not wearing HUD and I have turned off my name, but my pose stand text overlaps the dress, and that I cannot turn off. Please resolve this issue ASAP.

Not a happy little vegemite :(

LL says: "Second Life 1.8.4.7 optional viewer update release March 1, 2006
An optional viewer update has been released to resolve bugs found in 1.8.4.6.

The original release notes say that HUD objects are not shown in snapshots. This is no longer true. When HUDs were introduced, many residents wanted the HUD to show in snapshots without having to turn on the UI.

When investigating the fix to the nametags and text showing in screenshots, we found that the HUD could be displayed in snapshots without having the UI turned on. We have enabled this feature for now. If you don't want your HUD to show in a screen shot, simply detach it for the duration of the capture."

what garbage. complete garbage. some of us now we have our anims controlled by the HUD - but to take a pic of us while using them we have to detach the HUD unless you want it in the picture - which means...yep you guessed it ...no more anim. and the moment of the pic is lost anyway because you have to click everything to detach and...grrrrrrr......

please reset it to showing with the UI.

Tat

oh and btw? take a pic in Hi Res with your HUD on? you get a repeating image of the HUD all over your shot. niiiice.

Ridiculous. Having HUDs visible in a screen shot is clearly within the same setting theme as showing the UI. Solution, detach and fire? I can't believe I'm the only person on SL who takes snapshots for memory purposes. I probably fire of 15 or 20 shots a day -- at random, whenever I see something fun or interesting. Detach everything and then hit it? Ha! Scene is already Gone.

Stinks. Put it back the way it should be.

Agreed... I dont like this new feature either.
It's like having a slow camera IRL. If you see a funny situation, and have to wait for your cam to start and focus, you're too late.
I often take snaps of funny situations. If I'd have to detach my 3 huds before taking a snapshot, I'm too late.
Either remove it, or make an option "dont include HUD in snapshots"

Yes, this is a silly thing to do, WHY would I want my HUD in a picture??? WHY??? I don't want to have to take it off, where's the spontaneity in that??? I agree with many posters, have it an option to turn on and off, or get rid of it. Please!!!

This will also screw up any attempt to shoot pics of clothing models, where you use an HUD to contol the model's pose. I was going to buy one of those HUD's, so I can take fashion pics for my ads. Now I can't do that, without the *%@#! HUD in the picture! This sucks!

I needed to take some hi-res pics yesterday -- I'd either crash, disconnect, or come out the other end with a munged 226MB BMP. After 6 shots, I finally managed to get one usable image. I hope they fix this one fast.

How did they imagine that this would be an appreciated "feature" do they NOT play the game they made? this is just silly.

That has to be some odd error on the Windows build, I am getting the same normal screen shots on the Mac client.

So I don't think it was intentional :)

yeah - maybe they shoulda made it an option - but let's cut them some slack for doing exactly what some of us asked them to do.

I posted a script in another thread to move HUDs offscreen on command. Haven't tested it yet... I've been modifying my Otter Monitor because now that llSetText Alpha works the Alpha I picked for the text isn't quite readable (and making other improvements while I'm in there).

I like the ability to have HUDs show up in the screen shot, but I didn't ask for it and I don't think it should be the default. They really should have added an extra checkbox for this option.

The script I posted did much the same thing, except it moved the HUDs up and off-screen.

That should work better for HUDs that are already using transparency. :)

Hi-Rez snap and HUD
03-03-2006 11:47
Thought I'd add that when taking a Hi-Rez Snapshot with HUD attachments, instead of getting a single HUD, the hud is tiled some 6x8 times across a otherwise decent picture. I think this is what Katt was seeing.

As for being able to show the HUD in the next snapshot checkbox, like Torley mentioned here or one of the other threads, I'm all for it.

You make an interesting point. I don't use HUDs so clearly my advice on the topic is not always going to be very useful.

I was concerned that your script might have problems with very large HUDs and/or ones located at the bottom. It is possible an offset of two should be more than enough. If so, your script would be the better one.

And in a not entirely related point; wouldn't it be nice if the API allowed scripting of all actions available to the client? Then we could be posting example scripts that hid the HUD, took a snapshot and then made it visible again. I wish it was more often possible to be able to script solutions to fairly minor problems instead of waiting for the Lindens to work out a solution that will never work exactly like everyone would want it to.

Yes, please. Instead of making it a default, consider a checkbox: Include HUD in snapshot.

Ummm, not really, not when it breaks existing behaviour for the rest of the people (like me) who DON'T want it!

I design, build and sell jewelry - which means photographing it, which means removing all the HUDs (4 at the moment) that I use to enjoy playing the game, taking the snaps, and then finding them to put them back on.

An OPTION for this would be great, but I'm willing to bet that it was way less than 50% of the membership that wanted this done, and they always had the choice of show ui if they wanted to use it - we now don't have a choice of hide huds, so we lose - big style.

A lot of us _want_ and tell them we want a lot of features. why oh why do they pick one that breaks things to actually give us? *sigh*

Make it optional. Shooting business pictures is a pain in the butt now.

Oh yeh, I want client-side scripting. That could be done in a better language than LSL (they could use Mono for this already, or use something like the Mozilla Javascript engine which already runs on all platforms that support SL), and then we could have the menus and other user interface elements WE want...

UPDATE ON THIS IT'S OPTIONAL OKAY

What happened was:
[ ] Show HUD Attachments
now added to VIEW menu.

See Preview 1.9 and give it a spin for yourself.

It won't show up in snapshots now if you uncheck it. Not as flexible as what Tiger suggested, but at least you know you'll be able to show/hide them again in your piccies!
