I hear there is a problem with the "co-location" it seems to me that there are alot of problems with this. Maybe Linden Labs should get a refund for downtime and use the money to buy a bigger pipe to this mysictal "co-location" and maybe some back up generators.... just a thought

Second Life is experiencing issues related to network connectivity at one of our co-location facilities. Logins to Second Life have been temporarily disabled. Our Server Team is working to resolve this as soon as possible. We will post further information as it becomes available. Thank you for your patience and we apologize for any inconvenience. see http://blog.secondlife.com |

Is today Wednesday? Yep, nice to see things never change... Yet again, this has nothing to do with scheduled maintanance. This is a network faillure on one of their colocation facilities.. .. its something UNPLANNED, UNSCHEDULED and entirely OUT OF THEIR HANDS. |

Why is there no redundancy? C'mon Linden...get on the bandwagon...multiple Co-los...where is our money going? |

So tired of shutdowns
08-08-2007 12:17
I invested quite a little bit in SL...I'm getting tired of these endless shutdowns. I'm considering of leaving the whole thing as it is. If these breakdowns continue...I don't know what I'll do...it's really getting on my nerves.
Lol...does someone know how to reach the Lindens directly...I have quite a few annoying questions for them . ![]() |

No - surely the whole idea of a colocation facility is for resilience. The grid is advertised as offline, with no users online and logins disabled. I don't think it's unreasonable to question why.

OK, not being able to login is no fun at all.
But many people had serious problems because of connectivity issues. They could not log in at all, had huge package loss, or even worse became ghost avatars. This connectivity thing is not SL software, it is middleware. That Lindens take this action to try and find a way around somebody else's failing middleware is something that deserves an applause ![]() I have many negative comments on how things run in SL at the moment, but in this case I can only be positive. I hope they succeed and that way solve many problems for many people. |

no no .. there are users online.. in fact.. i just spoke to someone who is still online and walking around the grid.
The only thing LL disabled is the login. Yes, it says the GRID is down, but its not. The Login is down. |

No, The entire grid is NOT down. In fact.. people are still on the grid right now.. The only thing thats been taken down is the login. ....and if the proper redundancies were in place, the logins would still be enabled...You missed my point... so here it is in caps for you: LOSS OF ONE FACILITY SHOULD NOT KEEP US OUT OF SL. |

Oh please, downtime happens.. stop crying about it. Its not very regurlar, usually its planned.. now it isnt.. its not their fault a colocation fails. Of course it is their fault. It is their JOB to keep this network up and running. Which means they put a part of their profit into fault tolerance and redundancy. There are small and large companies doing business here. My question is why? At any other corporation, in this country, heads would roll at these kind of poor performance. |

This is the first time in a very long time that I haven't been able to log into SL when I want to. I really don't see what everyone's problem is.. As it is, this was out of their hands. STUFF happens; moron excavators don't call DigSafe and backhoe a line, a community gets hit with a heatwave and everyone uses their A/C blowing out the local power grid, etc.. It's frustrating how people will whine and cry "JUST FIX IT" having no clue what happened or how it might get fixed in the first place.
As for reimbursement.. Do the math before you start making stupid claims. If you have a Premium account you get maybe 30 cents or so for an ENTIRE DAY of downtime. If you own a sim, it's closer to $6.50 for that FULL 24 hours. You want compensation, go dig in your couch or under your driver's seat. Remember it was YOUR decision to invest in a Pioneer Venture, noone else's. Where's YOUR redundancy? _____________________

Yes, it says the GRID is down, but its not. The Login is down. To most of us, that's as good as down. If I was running the operation, I'd be very unhappy about this, and be looking for the reasons why, and how to make it better. |

i don't get why they go 3 4 5 or hours with little to no unpdated information to their subscripers reguarding outages. i have only just started playing around 2 months now and there has yet to be a week with out and outage for one reason or another that lasts hours and hours and the lack of updates status or eta is rather disturbing.

The idea of a "co-location" meaning that there are 2 places for your data to be at any one time. By it's definition mean that a "network-issue" with one of the locations shouldn't break the whole system. The idea of a very elaborate and complex system that supports 1000's of users, having a single point of failure is kinda funny. Add to this that some people actually use this "service/game/meta verse" as a means of income should make the lindens really rethink the architecture. I'm not saying that unexpected things or CATASTROPHIC events can't break it. But something as simple as the lose of communication with a CO-LOCATION (again i'm assuming this means the "back-up/redundant"
shouldn't bring down everything. Thats like having your spare tire in your trunk pop and then as a result your doors and engine fall off.If i'm wrong someone please explain it to me ![]() |
