Yes, I've rebooted my machine. I've let the DSL router redial. Nada.

To the original poster, you are correct, this is a server side issue. The coding that tells the server your online status etc. has hiccuped. Happens from time to time. There are 3 solutions:

1. Contact support to have them initiate a sim restart ( which according to one of your posts, seems you have already submitted that request. Can take time, especially on a weekend. )

2. Sign in under an alt acct, or have a friends log onto the sim and crash it to force a restart. (not recommended, especially if others are enjoying thier time on the sim. Pretty fast way to earn multiple AR's and/or ban.

3. Contact the sim owner if it is a privately owned sim and they can either initiate a restart or request one. (most effecient answer)

To the people who have responded: good work on responding to try and help this resident. Just a point to a few though as it happens often. Please be sure to read the previous answers posted and this will save the thread from going crazy with duplicate answers and arguements over right and wrong. For instance, the OP stated it is not a client side issue, which it is not. The client truely has nothing to do with this particular situation. The server keeps track of avatar location, status etc. The client is simply a window to the server so to speak. In this casae, regardless of default client or user created, the server is the one that is faulty in this situation. This topic has been covered previously, which can be found via search if anyone wishes to read up on it.

Good luck to the OP.

So much for that. When I booted into Windows earlier, to play Armed Assault, I tried first a few times from there, no go. I played Armed Assault. Then when I had enough, I tried, it worked. I walked around a bit, thought OK, time to reboot into Linux. Back in Linux, it starts doing it again. Jesus F$%&ing Christ.

With a dual boot system, could it be some kind of IP conflict? My fiance sometimes gets these with a crash, the whole router is f***d up then and it sometimes takes several router restarts to get an IP that is working again.

I don't know what happened when I walk around, but appears like it's stuck again in the old place. Like what the hell.

Ahahaha, what? Well, you can give it a try at Koleamoku. And to be safe, at the neighbor sim Baku, too. In case this became a border conflict.

so it wasn't server side after all. :) And an intentional crashing of the sim would have fruitless.

I still can't believe someone would seriously consider such a thing..........so self centered.

Glad you got your problem fixed anyway.

It was and still is server side. Because it's happening again, and it also happened under Windows.

Oh progress!

Now I managed to log in my character. Am somewhere in SL, while I'm also looking at the ghost with an alt. Jesus what.

And as soon I get too close to my ghost, it teleports to its location. Great.

I'm not convinced it's server side. There is no one else complaining of the problem. And I'm sure others use Linux. And most users of Linux also have Windows on their machines.

There comes a time when one must ask who's standing on their head when the whole world looks upside down?

Good luck with the problem.

Do you still think it's a problem here?

What are those two pictures showing me? You have two OS's? Both showing an avi in midair? There are boxes open that look like some type of information........no way can they be read with those screen captures though.

You mentioned your DSL router or modem..........have you forced a reboot of those? Someone mentioned it sometimes takes more than once. All Im seeing is your complaint with no one else even hinting that they also are experiencing a problem similar to yours. Yet you are insisting it's LL's problem.........and even considering a way to crash the sim you are in to "fix" it.

I still don't think it's a server generated problem. It's somewhere else. I'm basing that thinking on a very hard fact...........NO ONE else has your problem. And if it were a problem originating from LL servers or anything from LL there certainly would more than you with the problem. As long as you are solely focused on servers you will never find the solution..........think, man think. The answer's there somewhere. LOL

And since you are not going to convince me until I start seeing posts of others with the same or similar problems I don't see any reason for me to continue posting on this thread.

My main problem is your readiness to crash a sim or grid because you have a problem.........and it's not obvious that your problem is even an LL problem. In fact, it's quite the opposite.

Those two screenshots are multimonitor screenshots. Two screens! On the same computer! They show you two running SLViewers. You know, the same freakin' time.

In the first screenshot, after finally managed logging in, you see me flying back to the home, while the other session is looking at my ghost that's already home.

The second screenshot shows me having snapped back into place when I got too close. While the second session is looking into my direction but not seeing me.

If you still think that's an issue with my computer, please shut up and go away, since you obvious don't get it.

Well, what? Since LL doesn't deem it necessary to do custsupp, I have to help myself, no?

It is indeed server side. It's actually a fairly common problem, and has happened to me and several friends quite a few times. Luckily, the places where we tend to hang out are administered by other friends who can restart the sims for us.

I once played "Zombie Bowling" with about 15 of these zombies on a day where there were 40,000+ people signed in after a borked update and everyone was getting zombied.

Wish I could find the pictures.....

It appears to be a problem with attachments. Incidentally, I find a copy of my wig on my ass, which makes my AV snap into that location all the time. Can't detach it, can't edit it, can't do anything. There's usually also a shoe there. Even if I manage to log in and teleport to that other character, the wig and shoe appear there, too, but for a change, I can move freely. I logged out earlier for a test and can't get in again. Yet the other character sees the ghost in the usual spot again. This is completely nutso.

What's worse is that the customer support doesn't appear to work on weekends. Which is fun, since it's peak time. Yay for that. I suppose I'll go play something else until Monday evening.

I remember that...........there was a crap load of complaints too. There is only one complaint now. And according to the OP it's been over 24 hours since it happened. That, my friend, is why I'm not convinced. I don't care if it has happened before. That does not make it happening now.

And even if it is a problem on LL's side...........what gives the OP (or any of his friends) the right to crash a sim intentionally? He might have gotten a little more symphathy from me if he didnt' think because he has a problem he has the right to destroy other's enjoyment with a sim crash. I guess you and the OP haven't heard that part............but I've said it quite few times. I have a tough time with selfish people..........and the OP appears to be one of the worst I've seen is a while.

You're obviously retarded, because even if the evidence hits you straight in the face, you wouldn't be able to make sense out of it. I mean, two copies of my avatar at two different places in the same time? Why, it's sure as hell not the server, amirite? Get the hell out of my thread.

As the sister in law of a beautiful young woman with Down's Syndrome, I find your use of the word "retarded", as an insult to be very offensive.

Maybe you should be on Teen SL.

It's definately not a client side issue, since if you're not running a client, and the avie is still logged on, how could it possibly be a client side issue????? It could be a server side issue, but, everyone's missing one possiblity. It could be an issue with your account. I had a friend who had two premium accounts because of the issues she had with the one account. She couldnt get LL to fix it, so she made another account premium, and started from scratch. Not being a builder or scripter, it wasnt too big of a deal, but she lost all her no transfer stuff to the old account. Not so much lost, but doesnt use as she rarely logs on with the account anymore due to the problems.

Versions of the forever-logging-out-zombie state are not all that uncommon. What it takes to clear it seems to vary (probably depends on what was happening when it occurred). It happened to myself and two friends who were hanging out at a sim that suddenly seemed to feel very ill.

We tried sending the AVs IMs, a common fix, but it didn't work. Oddly, sending an invite to friend (from an alt of one of us) did work, for all three. However, recently I recommended this to someone else in the forums, and it didn't work for them *shrug*. Can't hurt to give it a shot.

It has always seemed to me that this is sim-related. I think petitioning to sim owner for a restart is your best bet.
