I got a new PC and Downloaded and installed SL with the latest patch, and it runs like arse.
Even waterhead can be a stutter fest when you look around, kind of annoying when my last PC ran it better, Is it this new patch or my computer, either way it's damn annoying to stutter like a dog
SPECS:
AMD 4200 939 2gb 3200 ram 650 PSU Radeon x800xl 256mb
My specs should crap over this game, so why's it running like crap?

Is XP up to date and patched to the latest service pack?
Are you using XP Pro or XP Home?

Yeah yeah im all up to date, although I doubt it's that
I've noticed with this new patch, when you turn around and look, you see objects dissappearing and re-appearing. So objects that you don't see on screen, are invisible, and when you look back, that object is rendered again, thus creating load time.
When loading LOTS of object, it creates stutter, which is what i'm getting everywhere
Must be all the object loading when looking around / rotating.
Wonder if you can turn off object hiding

There is a known issue with AMD dual cores causing stuttering in SL. Contact Tech Support by email and they can help you.

try this amd dual core optimizer AMD Dual-Core Optimizer - The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer can help improve some PC gaming video performance by compensating for those applications that bypass the Windows API for timing by directly using the RDTSC (Read Time Stamp Counter) instruction. Applications that rely on RDTSC do not benefit from the logic in the operating system to properly account for the affect of power management mechanisms on the rate at which a processor core's Time Stamp Counter (TSC) is incremented. The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer helps to correct the resulting video performance effects or other incorrect timing effects that these applications may experience on dual-core or multiple processor systems. or set Secondlife to 1 core affinity in task manager. some get this wierd studdering with dual core, some dont im one who get it) or is this a single core cpu?

With my Intel dual core in some games, I had to pick the cpu affinity through the Task Manager once I had fired up the .exe for that app. I would get warping, stuttering and so on.

Got a screenshot of your task manager ? Performance tab, If you could fraps/ get any ingame video uploaded somewhere that would be nice to, see what you mean with studder, SL is -.- so slow latly.... urg, not sure what internet speed you have tho, unless everything where you are downloaded it will be ver...y....jerky..slow.. (that was a odd sentence)

Uncheck one of those to force it to only run on one cpu. That has to be done everytime you run SL sadly.
What about vertical snyc, fast write etc? I cant remeber if AMD has it, but I always turn off Speedstep, thermal throttle etc on my Intels.

Right click secondlife.exe > Set affinity, and I've only got one ticked , Yeah?
Makes no difference, is there another way to do it?

From: Simon Au Got latests drivers for my processor yesterday, got new drivers for my ATI a week or two ago Latest ATI drivers could be any of the many available drivers for ATI out there.. are they the Catalyst, Omega, NGO, or Wildcat (just to name a few)?

I am on an AMD dual-core system myself. You may wish to look at my past postings, such as: /139/cd/124480/1.htmlBest of hope reducing the stuttering.

From: someone 1) Download the ImageCFG tool and copy to required folders as described above.
2) Right-click the desktop and pick New -> Text File
3) Rename the file to SetAffinity4SL.bat (or whatever you want to call it, but make sure the extension is .BAT)
4) You'll be asked if you're sure you want to change the filename. Click Yes.
5) Right-click the batch file and pick Edit
6) It should open in Notepad. Copy & paste the following lines and save.
Code:
c: cd \Program Files\SecondLife imagecfg -u SecondLife.exe pause
7) After completing each Second Life installation, double-click the batch file icon to run the tool and automatically set the affinity.
I got lost on line 3, What file? I renamed the exe and notepad file I didn't get asked about changing filename, no edit....Kinda bitty explanation....
