I have a AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ processor, 2 Gig of RAM, a Gigabyte GV-X66T256D GE Force 6600 running in SLI mode and a ASUS motherboard. My system is super fast, super powerful and super stable in all things except Second Life. I have discovered that Linden Lab's Second Life does not support either my Dual Core AMD processor or SLI mode. How do I make second life stable WITHOUT degrading the performance of my computer? I have changed the afinity but it keeps reverting to both. Also changing this feature is a good way to crash the client. I have downloaded and installed the "fix" AMD Dual-Core Optimizer .
I have problems crossing boundries like having my avatar keep walking no matter what I do and makes me log off. My avatar does a good impression of Maxheadroom from time to time and other such problems. I use to blame the security orb users but know better now.
How do I fix my highspeed computer without turing off all of the performance features and turning it into a useless Dell clone?

I'm in a similar situation on an Opteron 170... posted several times about it before too if you're curious.

Second Life specifically isn't optimized for dual-core processors yet, but market adoption continues to grow. I'm hopeful SL will be able to take fuller advantage of the technology.

I am aware of some performance degradation bugs we have in the system, such as "SL exhibits performance deterioration and appears to use both processors on a dual-core AMD setup with dual monitors active!?" (Yes, I exclaimed it that loud.)

That one bites my ass pretty hard.

To keep affinity set to only one core:

Latest update gives me the jitters

You will need to run that each update. Not ideal, I know.

All the best, Ranma.
