Are you sure it's 'not supported'? I use a Dell Inspiron 6400 with the ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 and it's just fine. Even the SL website says that the mobility X1300 series are OK though not fully tested iirc. I can even run 2 instances of the SL client on it. Your problem could be Vista. My laptop has Win XP Home and that seems to be OK. You may need to see what tweaks there are for the Vista drivers to make them compatible with SL.

Im sure that I read somewhere that if you are brave enough to Run SL on Vista then only NVidia cards are compatable.

Try searching previous posts or read the sticky at the top of the page about Vista.

Definatly Vista that's the problem, swap to XP and you lappy will work better and work with SL better. I just bought a Compaq Lappy with Vista on, performance was sluggish and the whole Vista OS just annoying so I swapped to XP, which is should be noted wasn't simple on the Compaq as drivers where hard to find, and performance was vastle better and hassle vanished.

Vista is like every other microsoft product; When it's new, it's horrible. It's too new right now, and I have heard some people do like it, but some people liked XP when it first came out too... In time, I'm sure Vista will be nice, but for now, Katier's right, switch back to XP, and you should be good to go.

according to the system specs SL is still incompatble with Vista. Its not your card.

I don't know, you could try that? I have no idea how SL would run like that though.

i'm running Vista Home & ATI X1300pro
05-21-2007 05:09
i just got a new Dell with Vista Home Premium and an ATI X1300pro and out of the box i couldn't run SL either. i also got the "not supported" message when trying to boot SL. Once i went to the ATI website and updated the drivers everything was fine. Be sure you update to the correct one too... there are 2 versions of the drivers and the 64bit one won't work as Vista is 32bit (at least my version is). Now i have the AMD Duo64 5000+ version of the Dimensions 521 but i don't think the processor you have matters. Good luck!

Im not completely sure. It might be your drivers. But as said in the System Requirements - ATI is supported. I suggest contacting Support@secondlife.com. If anything it would be your operating system because Windows Vista is not supported by secondlife

i have been tryed all day.
the main problem is that my language is italian and its a bit different from english system.
anyway:
i cannot get at point 5:

"Run Mobility Modder - browse to the driver in C:ATI/SUPPORT/ - an example of Catalyst 7.4 would be C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-4_vista32_dd_ccc_enu_44985 - hit modify. Wait until driver is modified."

what is the mobility modder?
and what is to hit?
at that step i cant see anything to HIT.

Hi Rod

Did you download the Mobility Moder ? You have to instal it, before trying to update the drivers. Also check the DriverHeaven forum because they can provide you with help about using the MModer for Vista. Hope all turns out well.

I get the same message for NVIDIA 7600 on Vista. It's not a video card issue, but a SL on Vista issue.
