"Login packet never received by login server"
06-13-2006 22:05
I've been trying for two days as well...when it gets to "connecting to region" i get that cryptic message. Would be nice for them to actually HAVE a status on the status page (ie, "we are experiencing some reported difficulties loggin in" rather than "The Grid is ON"....seems like they only report two states, "ON" and "OFF".....would be more helpful to report all the other potential states in between. In speaking with one of the phone reps, same thing i see here "it must be your firewall"....even though I've not changed anything about my system at all, including firewall. Has anyone gotten an acknowledgement from Linden that they are even aware of the problem? Thanks!

Strangely enough, even with this admission, they still tried to get me to check my firewall settings. LOL

Don Linden posted in SL Annoucements about the login issues -- saying the servers were having problems. He has restarted them and is monitoring them.
Yeah, we know already.

Still not getting in...
06-14-2006 14:57
Installed the new version, still giving me the same "unable to connect. Login packet never received by login server" after the "waiting for region handshake" step in login.
i've disable any/all firewall stuff, only using land line (not wireless), tried logging in to specific coordinates/zones (vs. Home or other), re-installed the software, etc, etc. still same problem.
called the phone number, waited on hold a while until it said "sorry, we're not available, leave a message"

I don't know if anyone's still having problems, but I just called in again and they took care of me. If you call once or twice and it's busy, you have to call again when they're not and it's pretty painless. It was probably a five minute call and ten minutes later I could get back on.

What did they do to help you?

It has something to do with the database. I don't see any way you can resolve the problem by yourself, but if you call and tell them that you've been getting the error message, they'll tell you to try to log in in ten minutes and it should work.

OK, I can understand that their DB went SNAFU, but there are many of us (yes, me included) which are from abroad... There's an ocean between me and Linden Labs, so I'm not so eager to call them and wait ten minutes!
