I can't be the only person experiencing this.. the first thing I noticed with the new Inventory is the lack of "Show All".. this is a huge pain as when I find an item in a folder, I usually want to see what else is in the folder. Can't do that anymore. If I clear the search, every folder in my inventory shows again. Also.. if I move any item in my inventory to another folder, every single folder in the inventory opens... fast.. before I can even be sure the object I moved went into the intended folder. I love the sort by date, and the tab editing, but please PLEASE fix this buggy behavior. Inventory is almost totally cripped this way, especially when searching through 13000 items grouped into labeled folders. And please fix it today.. I'm afraid to even change clothes.

... I tried to move a folder containing new items to another folder but all the folders in the Library and in my inventory expanded. I had to do a search to find where the folder had landed. then I kept trying to close the library and just leave my inventory folders available. That was a chore but I finally did it. I also love the sort by date but I do wish I could move items around without chaos.

I have a different issue, it seems like anything I do in inventory forces every folder to fully expand every time. Very annoying.

Ok Not Funny

I can't open folders now by using search I wanna know where the updates are that make SL more enjoyable? LOL I have an idea make a server just for experiments...pay players or offer incentives to try out all the cool ideas you all have and then really pay attention to the feedback. Then after you figure out what will work without 3 or 4 patches then do an update. LOL ok what can I say besides grrrrr!

I agree, the inability to open up folders after searching for them is a HORRIFIC "feature". What on -earth- was Linden thinking?
The constant "updates" which ruin the game experience (pulse lag, etc.) and wreck critical features (inventory) are really starting to get to me.
This latest inventory change is really pure insanity. I have no idea what they were thinking, really.
{Edit - there is a thread with Torley Linden responding to this issue in latest version feedback, and she's being quite helpful.
However, because the search is broken and the "hey, lets open all your folders so you can't find a damn thing" bug makes the game basically a mess for me.. I have to literally stop playing until it is fixed. Never mind my Mac client rants... another whole issue.
And some of us actually pay for this. lol }

Yikes

I can't help but agree...
- Losing focus of an item after a search is a killer
- Does the trash need to become the top item and auto-expand on recent view when you delete something from in world (but not from within list)

Broken Inventory
06-08-2006 00:16
Totally agree. The new filters are good, but the focus MUST remain on the currently selected item. Ideally, that item should be kept towards the top or in the middle of the visible window.
Linden guys, this is a MAJOR BUG and needs to be fixed urgently.

Inventory Window - Broken...agreed
06-09-2006 06:38
Along with everything else i've seen here, every time a friend logs off or on when i'm in my inventory it pops back to the top and opens every folder. I spend half my time in the game just trying to finish one inventory task. It's driving me crazy.

Roll back then fix
06-09-2006 06:55
Ok Linden lab, lets be honest, you really delivered a whopper of a mistake with the new inventory. Don't make us all suffer needlessly until you have a "fix" for this blunder. Roll it back to the previous version. Its not so feature rich, but at least it worked. Meanwhile, I'm not building, buying or even changing clothes

We are listening to resident feedback, and we'll introduce requested changes in the next new version. That way we keep all the other things we've been fixing. ;^)

From: Lee Linden We are listening to resident feedback, and we'll introduce requested changes in the next new version. That way we keep all the other things we've been fixing. ;^) That's understandable. It really is. But how about issuing a hotfix that corrects the inventory bugs as they are really ruining a lot of people's game? I mean, actively causing people to not play. Some of these people are paying for a working game.... a broken inventory isn't a working game. This isn't a minor issue like weird looking prims or stuttering in the Mac client that can be hotfixed with a little rippled water switch [thanks again Brent!]. This is a fundamental showstopping flaw that makes the game's inventory system virtually worthless. We are all campaigning for a fix. If you are working on the fix and don't want to release it early for fear it will break more than it fixes... that's fine. Tell us. I think everyone here would rather have a fixed client than one that is more broken. (You think people are upset now! haha) I have seen you all at Linden issue very very fast fixes to huge bugs in a matter of 2-3 days. This inventory set of bugs is a CRITICAL bug! Reports are that even in the latest preview build, it is not fixed. Why? If you all could introduce it so fast (within a week), you can unintroduce this bug. If not, explain why so people understand. And we also would love an assurance that some more QA will happen in future builds so obvious showstoppers like this don't get released. It is literally like not a single living soul looked at the inventory code in the .2 release before rolling it out. What was all that about? All of us paying residents are trying to help. We're not trying to be whiney babies, we're not trying to be PITAs. We're trying to a) Fix what is ruining a game we pay for b) Help the developer ensure it doesn't happen again. Communication, dev-to-user AND user-to-dev is key.

Everyone interested, news on the next update containing the new version of Second Life: From: Karen Linden Second Life 1.10.3 is scheduled for release on Wednesday, June 14, 2006. The update is scheduled from 7am PT/SLT to 12pm PT/SLT. During that time a database restart is required, which means the secondlife.com website may be down for a short time as well. Both server and client code will be deployed; therefore, a new viewer will be required to access this version. Release notes will be available on Monday pending the final verification of all features.
CONTEXT: /3/e8/112891/1.html#post1083481I personally spent a lot of time aggregating community info from the forums and reproducing the bugs inworld yesterday and the day before that. It was like whack-a-mole, and there's always gonna be someone out there who observes what most people don't. (Anyone else get the "missing wrinkles" reference?) I have a few more things to say too re: personal perspectives. And does anyone else remember this?As for communication, I'm all for improving it. Aye, whatever I can share, I will. BTW, Bethanee, I smile at the stuff you write because it reminds me of what I used to do before I worked for LL on these very forums. It's nice to know the spirit continues...

Thanks Torley. I read your list of the actual bugfixes to be included in Wed.'s list [crossing fingers] and am very very happy.
Your help/communication/bugfixing was invaluable during this process, as I am sure many can attest to.
And no, I'm not trying to butter your toast.. .I'm calling it like it is =) [had to throw in another metaphor for ya! ha!]
As for 1.6... and especially 1.7... haha no comment. I'll get flashbacks.

From: Helen Goff I tried to move a folder containing new items to another folder but all the folders in the Library and in my inventory expanded. I had to do a search to find where the folder had landed. then I kept trying to close the library and just leave my inventory folders available. That was a chore but I finally did it.
I also love the sort by date but I do wish I could move items around without chaos. Ok I have ran into this as well, but what I have found it is the inventory is a bit SLOWER than before. So what you want to do is have two windows open and in the destination window you want to expand that folder. Then drag from the other window and hold for a few seconds (2 or 3) before you release the mouse button. If you don't it tends to drop it in a folder below the one you are aiming for. And the reason for expanding the desntination folder is it won't do it automatcially and jump things around. So in short WAIT before you release that button and make sure it is on the folder you want for a few seconds. From: Calla Neva I can't open folders now by using search I wanna know where the updates are that make SL more enjoyable? LOL I have an idea make a server just for experiments...pay players or offer incentives to try out all the cool ideas you all have and then really pay attention to the feedback. Then after you figure out what will work without 3 or 4 patches then do an update. LOL ok what can I say besides grrrrr! Well it was in the preview so anyone could have taken a look at it. I did earlier this week and posted the problem I found where they changed the sorting of the folders to date only. This was a problem for me as I have all my folders orgaized by name and constaintly shifting folders by date would have drove me nuts. They did fix that at least. But I think everyone should check out the preview often as the Lindens don't release exactly what changes are going on and what we should check etc etc untill the day BEFORE it is released on the main grid lol (at least not lately). And even the discusion area about the preview was moved to the archive so we don't have a place to talk about new "features" (ahem bugs) we find. From: Bethanee Heaney I agree, the inability to open up folders after searching for them is a HORRIFIC "feature". What on -earth- was Linden thinking?
The constant "updates" which ruin the game experience (pulse lag, etc.) and wreck critical features (inventory) are really starting to get to me.

And some of us actually pay for this. lol } You can fix this off by clicking on filters, modify filters and unchecking "show all folders". From: Pulaski Fizz I sort my inventory by date, lately it reverts to alphabetically. not a big i can switch it back but enough to prompt this post. I have ran into this as well. But I did find that if I close all inventory execpt to one window, set it to sort by date, log out and back in, it seem to remember the setting. -DB
