I got the same message about an hour ago now and still getting the 'Cant log on with this computer'.
There's a couple of threads now with a fair amount of users affected, how many have to be affected before a linden at least ACKNOWLEDGES the thread and that there is some problem somewhere?
Anyone listening out ther in LL?
(Email sent to support BTW).

I got this from the blog.. I tried changing my router config because even though they tell you they are changing things.. They don't tell you how to fix it if you are having problems with it... Grrrrrrrr
Here is the message from the blog
First, we are changing the way our Network Protocol works and some of you may have to reconfigure your firewalls or routers. The ports will remain the same but if you end up having troubles connecting to Second Life, you may have to change your configuration to allow UDP/TCP from the current UDP

** Update on not being able to log in **
01-11-2007 21:22
After trying everything else, i decided to uninstall the viewer, redownload the viewer and reinstall, as a result it NOW works.
Seeing as there WAS NO HELP WHATSOEVER from a linden to aclnowledge this issue, I don't know if this was the reason for it working now.
Anyhow, I thought I would let you peeps who are affected know and hope it helps.

I used to have this problem as well, and found that even you are logged out at your PC the server thinks you are still logged on.
When i encouter this problem, i found this solution: 1) call or email a friend who is still on line and ask him or her to send you an IM inworld. 2) then he or she will get a reply: "User not online - msg will be stored... etc"
after that, you can re-logon as usual. Tip1: then secondlife.com website will tell you which of your friends are still online. Tip2: when you don't have a friend to call? create a second avi to help you out or place a request in this forum to have someone send you an IM..

It's a server bug with what they call the "presence server" which keeps track of logins.
Unfortunately the presence server - like all SL - is overloaded and will often "forget" that someone has logged out. This is why the "send an IM to me" works, because the presence server is forced to verify your presence and marks you as logged out if it can't find you.

Good advice, but I don't think that's quite the problem here. It seems to be endemic to a set of folks who just can't log in, and get the banned or suspended error, without having done anything to be legitimately placed in that state.
The funny thing is, these residents still show up in the SL search. To my knowledge, if you're banned or suspended, you won't show in the SL search?
Pinging the presence server doesn't appear to help, and neither does allowing UDP access or refreshing the IP addy. Troublesome. However, the response I received from email Support tells me to call them, without any detail on the issue... so, we'll see what happens.
