Ok, once again the grid is down so we have some time to kill. So with that in mind and being we're in the technical forums which in second life is the place where just about everyone visits almost daily although you wish you didn't have to, let's try this.
If you had the opportunity to ask just one question to Linden or to say just one thing, what would it be? You can ask or say anything dealing with SL, although I imagine the main topic has to do with the technical aspect of Second Life.
My question would be: Why do you guys not concentrate on fixing the essential and important parts of the game in a timely fashion instead of constantly adding things we don't need or are of no immediate priority or concern? Example: The inability to tp every time as it should be. This has been a problem for a long time now and nothing has been done. No word on your part and no help getting this issue resolved although the complaints are numerous and have been for a long time now.

My question would be "would it be financially feasible to just ban everyone who cluelessly whines about stuff on the forums and blog comments instead of voting with their feet/money, and if so, could you pretty please consider doing it?"
That, or something about the specifics of the planned opensourcing.

To keep on topic... Me to Linden: "It's pretty obvious that SL is not only not scaleable to any really large degree, it never will be. The database can only get so big and significant network and bandwidth problems have already arisen that directly affect the playability of the game to a large degree. Just as a single web site cannot possibly hope to admit users from the whole world simultaneously, SL *must* at some point become a multiple grid and multiple database solution. Given that, why have we, as users of the software, had to suffer under this awfull "stress test" of network capacity with the progam to drastically increase user log-ons. Why have we had to suffer degredation of playability, of creative ability, network optimizations that destroy content and immersion etc. when you know that at some point the system is not ultimately scaleable anyway?" Linden to Me: "Well you were right in that what you have been seeing is a sort of a 'stress test' that we have been working on on behalf of our investors. They obviously want to know the point at which the system is likely to "break" or slow down and how much optimization (basically degredation of content and user experience) that people will be willing to put up with. The truth is we don't really care so much about the 'community' anymore, we realise that that aspect of the game is already gone to hell. It's really all about the product itself now."

Ok My question maybe to complex for the Lindens to answer: Why the hell can't you fix what needs to be fixed, instead of giving us stupid crap in updates we don't need, also per my phone convo with you earlier this week I warned you the servers would crash and u needed to install this product so the end user would never know u went down. So why didnt you listen to me? Oh yea I forgot I dont know what I am talking about... That is right.... So instead of stupid upgrades when are u going to fix what is wrong? Or did Lil Johnny quit?

Dear Lindens,
Why oh why did you decide to open the doors to all the whiny emo technidiots into the world? It used to be so much nicer before they found us.
Love,
Jacques.

Jacques Must love her new updates... Let me see well there was language in notecards and we still have in some cases missing images... We got in the new update new IM options, but now no sim has water... Oh wait u need to go to region to fix that...
Fact: Linden Labs have not been able to fix things for a long time. here is a quote from a employee " We are growing to fast and can't keep up"
The fact is Jacques you think we are winners when we are just stating facts and asking questions..
My Opion: LL needed to shut everything down and fix it right, then stop with the weekly updates and MAYBE update a new version once a quarter and make sure it works.
This is what happens when u can not handle the growth that they have had. And yes Jacques I have talked to higher ups in LL and I have more info then most in world.

This is an Experiment
12-29-2006 10:23
My question for the Lindens is: Why do you bother to tell the users (us) anything beyond it's up & running, or not.
Yes we are their customers. The information, as such, we are entitled to is whether they are open or not. It is our choice to stay or go.
This is the beginning of a whole new type of community. All beginnings have problems. I feel honored to be allowed to take any part in this experiment. Anyone who does not think it is an experiment is deluding themselves.
I have waited for something along the SL lines for 40 years. I knew it would come, if I could just stay around long enough. And I did! I am here & a resident & will become a premium member when I can afford it.
So many of the posts I read are: me, me, me, money, money, money, this is my life because of me, me, me, money, money, money.
This is basically my life. I'm disabled & often confined to bed (why I got a lap top, the desk top was too heavy on my lap). I don't plan to be a tycoon here like a lot of you. I just want to live my life.
Remember this is an EXPERIMENT!

"So if you don't like me you can Bite Me" First, I'm not a "her." Second, not all bugs can be fixed overnight. More serious bugs have to take precedence. Sorry, water not showing up or some missing images (which is actually a client problem) isn't detrimentally affecting everyone's ability to do basic tasks. Third, nobody is arguing that SL's growth outpaced their network expansion. That much is obvious. Fourth, not every developer is working on the same project. Throwing more people at an existing problem has no guarantee that it won't make it be solved any faster. Fifth, you aren't asking questions, you are making veiled threats and complaining. You aren't helping anything. You are whining like a spoiled brat not getting your way. Sixth, I will not bite you. I don't know where you've been.

Sts I agree with you 110%. and for people who can not live a "Normal" Life it is a place where we can be "Normal". That is why i get mad when someone calls me a whiner. I am trying to help improve the SL community and make it more enjoyable. I am disabled and yes it is a place to escape and do what others take for granted in the Real world. Simple things like Walk, talk, be judged for our insides instead of our looks.
So if a Linden does read this forum. Just think of the customers that this is effecting and let us know why you can't fix it right. Maybe they forgotten that for some people SL is the closet they can get to a "Normal" Life.

Ok my question is why cant they fix what is wrong?
And if you think I am a spoiled Brat and making threats you need to get a life. And yes there is a way to fix it right and yes the bugs can be fixed all at once. And if they can not, since you know so much, why is it that games like the ones owned by Blizzard or NCplaysoft have combined together over 300 million residence and not 1/2 they issues that are in SL.

Bannock, You are so right. One little whine from here: The timing sux. Yesterday I was down with stomach flu & couldn't have cared less if SL was running or not. Today I do care. I know it's hard to not whine. But, it never helped anything (except get your parents mad). Logical, reasonable, lucid, calm descriptions of problems is worth more than whining. Someone, somewhere said that the Lindens probably don't read these forums anymore. Could whining, anger & generally pissed off behavior be the reason? When you have to dig through the detritus (garbage) to find the few usable gems of data can become a job no one wants to do. Maybe, for people who want to piss & moan, should have a forum just for that. Sort of putting all the nuts in one basket, where you can keep an eye on them (as Robert Heinlein always said was a good idea). Just not out amongst sensible people.

My question would be: will land owners ever be able to ban based on something like MAC address or some other kind of hard(ish) ID? Some kind of "ban this user and everybody else who is on their hardware" type deal.
It's just too easy for people to create an alt (or 20) and come right back. If LL wants to enable people to do their own enforcement of community standards, I think something like this is a must-have. It might not be a perfect solution but it would go a long way towards cutting down on how much work land owners and admins spend dealing with the same bozos, over and over.

Concidering todays assest server crashing being the result of having to replace a CMOS lithium battery are all the servers on one lithum battery, a AA battery, or something else? PS yes some PCs and boards use AA instead of lithium.
