The plot thickens. Like most ISP's NTL cable modems and set top boxes restrict or block access on certain ports, Ive had issues connecting to some P2P networks in the past. Only way I got around that was configuring the software to connect on an alternative port. As far as I know you cant do that with SL and you cannot change the port settings on the modem or STB. Anyone know anything about NTL modems or STB's? Is anyone aware if SL now connects through different ports to log on to the server since the update? Really know bugger all about such matters.

Wow what are the f***ing chances...im in portsmouth as well, maybe its a conspiracy by Linden against Pompey :)

think its more likely that our local DNS server hasnt picked up a new address used by linden or something similer. I suspected it might be as soon as I saw you were on NTL too which is why I mentioned the portsmouth bit. the fact that there are a few NTLers having trouble makes it seem a lot more likely. Fortunatly it should just meen a few hours (0-48) untill the DNS servers reload the correct infomation. I'd suspect its unlikely to be a particuler port ban as it happened on patch day. Unless of course linden have made part of it look like a p2p downloader that may have allready been banned by NTL?

It seems to have been resolved, I guess DNS change was probably the most likely problem.

See thats what I need, technical information and reassurance! Thanks.

Surely most cable and ADSL modems restrict the same sort of P2P connections in Europe and the US so would have thought it would be a major problem. Although this is NTL we are talking about here so nothing will suprise me. So I suppose i'll stop bitching and wait a bit to see if it sorts itself :)

It started on me tonight and I got the standard Linden issue Live Help statement of " It's your PC. No one else is having problems." Gee, nice to know nonw of you folks are having the same problem you are all saying you have and I am seeing things. BTW this worked fine on my PC until tonight. LL better quit screwing the pooch on these updates, ading features that don't work and ading newer and biger bugs they do not ever intend to fix. They are about to let thier poor cutomer service and support drive them out of Biz.

Ditto. This sucks. I'm happy I got past the name and password screen, but the "Verifying Protocols" freeze-up is not as exciting as I'd hoped it would be. :(

Yep, I got this problem now. Happened about 10 minutes ago, I was working on a build and things were going super slow so I figured my connection was going to crap out so I logged out to relog back in, but when I tried to log back in I get the Verifying Protocol Version. Ths first few log ins got as far as the looking for region handshake message or whatever. Now I changed NOTHING between relog ins so its nothing on my end.
