Hello

I just downloaded SL to see what all the fuss is about, but it doesn't load. I get a Detecting Hardware window, then it looks like the SL windows loads (I get a title bar at the top of my screen, nothing else) then *blip* it's gone. Checking task manager indicates that the process itself is gone.

I'm using the most current drivers for my system, as it's a gaming pc (ok I shouldn't really say it's a gaming pc, as it isn't built for gaming :p but it's what I use and what I currently have a budget for)

Sempron 2200+
1gb DDR ram (pc3200? i think)
160gb 7200 rpm HDD
ATI Radeon X1600 Pro 256
etc etc

That's the jist of it. So what could be causing this loading crash?

Might be your ATI card as well...

Yup, read your thread and a few others on crashing. Even a mac one after doing a search on the subject (something to with color depth).

What I find odd is my pc behave erratically after SL crashes. I've opened task manager after SL failed to load and I have 16 instances of EditPad.exe running. And then noticed that the taskmgr process was soon joined by 5 more, even though I had only opened one. I eventually had to restart my pc because a bunch of processes just started randomly appearing, none of which actually brought up any programs. Dreamweaver opened too, and I found that interesting as I had run DW previous to SL. Perhaps there's a memory overload going on and SL starts executing random code from memory?

In any case I've uninstalled the program. I really don't need a rogue app launching processes from memory on it own. Fast way to corruption, that is.
