My PC is pretty much on it's last legs and going out of date spec wise, and so I decided to have a look around for a replacement. After stumbling around on the net for a few hrs, I came across the following PC that I am seriously considering...

http://www.meshcomputers.com/updated/review_nov05_matxtremepro.htm

It's fairly high endish, and so not too cheap. Is it worth paying out this much for a PC? If it is, is there any reason why I shouldn't go for this particular one? Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated :)

Thnx for your reply Thili :) The monitor, keyboard and mouse are not a problem, as I would use the ones I currently have :D

Do you mean it's expensive because it's pre-built, or expensive for a pre-build? I have a looked around, and I can't find cheaper for these specs. Maybe it's expensive as you're in a different country, and you have generally lower prices? It's possible to get PCs here for like a third of the price, but they're pretty much the same spec as I have now ie crap lol.

Aye we have nearly the same prices on computer stuff, im in norway, so we're taxed up the ying yang.

That cpu is pretty costly and 7800 GTX is also expensive, both are very very nice.

The x2-4800 cost like mad its over twice the cost as a x2-3800 where i live. (3150 vs 7495 ~.~in my currency)

Doesnt say what psu it has, but it better be 500w+ hehe , psu nowadays are sooo quiet when i changed mine i couldnt belive how i lived with the old i had, 32db vs 10-16db, buut then the vid card make more noise then anything now tho ~.~

Im pretty sure you could shave of quite abit building that self, cause of software / hardware / casing , you already have.

Lcd's are nice i use one myself, but my "old" 19"crt from samsung is heck ofalot better with colors and fast motions (weigh like a ton tho)

I could buy either one of these here:
2x19" Crt ::150£
1x19" Lcd 8ms :: 283£
1x21" Crt :: 310£

The thought of building it myself sends shivers down my spine tho :D

Sorry, but can you explain what psu is?

I also found a review on the PC..

PSU - Power Supply Unit , the power for your entire pc, they eaat power thanks to PCI-e and AMD it has lowered tho, but im pretty sure they put in one that can run it ;P

Googler!

PSU ; Also called a power supply unit or PSU, the component that supplies power to a computer. Most personal computers can be plugged into standard electrical outlets. The power supply then pulls the required amount of electricity and converts the AC current to DC current. It also regulates the voltage to eliminate spikes and surges common in most electrical systems. Not all power supplies, however, do an adequate voltage-regulation job, so a computer is always susceptible to large voltage fluctuations.

Power supplies are rated in terms of the number of watts they generate. The more powerful the computer, the more watts it can provide to components.

im guessing 450-500w.

Thnx Thili :) I'll look into what power supply it comes with. Usually if it's left off specs, it's for a reason hehe.

BTw, how much attention to you pay to forum reviews? I mean they can obviously be gamed pro and anti. But this thread seems pretty bad, certainly given me the jitters...

http://www.romulus2.com/feedback/company.php?33

edited to add: have also found 2 websites, not 2 domains that lead to the same pages. Is this normal?

ouch those where bad , 420watt is not acceptable for a pc this powerfull, id sure never go under 500w on that one you are looking at.

Sounds like if you plan on getting them incase pc goes belly up its hopeless O.o

""Mesh claimed to have replaced the video card and PSU (in actual fact they installed a PSU incapable of powering all the devices resulting in the machine often not booting)""

Aiieee... thats why i build pc's myself, i dont trust people with my parts o.O (whaaat)

They got slaughtered in the pages i read :P

As much as i dislike name brand pc's (they are usually very low on diffrent spec for some reason) the name brand usually has a staff that responds faster, the thing i read here where like : shoddy support, bad delivery dates, things missing from pc, rude staff : O.o

some oddities i noticed
lcd 8ms advertised (the info i could find says its 12ms)

Some company over here in norway have the same thing, 2 diffrent names, but same "group" so they have identical sale and warehouse, but diffrent webnames, i have no idea why they do that, i bought from them from years and never had problems with them tho.

Yeh I am pretty gutted. The major PC magazines over here gave it rave reviews, so didn't know if I should be trusting them or the forums i found. I'll do a little more research before buying anything I think lol.

Thnx for your time Thili, really appreciate it :)

I purchased a new comp not too long ago i went through alienware though. I pretty much just called told them my budget and what i would be using it for and on my doorstep showed up a duel p4,4 gigs of ram monster that heats this room up to well over 95 degrees (yea no a/c in germany) it is a beast and can handle anything i throw at it but it sure does run hot. i also have duel 19" 8 or 9ms response time lcd's :) although alienware is really overpriced and your pretty much paying for the name they do create some pure works of art.

biggest diffrence

64 X2 4800 ; new 2 cpu
FX-57? ; old (it is!)

For multitasking and well...everything X2 , fx57 is overhyped, i have a fx55 behind me, x2-4800 beat it a mile

" If you must sink a grand into the purchase of a new CPU, for Pete's sake, let it be the X2 4800+ and not the FX-57. Your multithreaded performance will be better, and your quotient of creamy smoothness for multitasking will rise exponentially"

Cool thnx for that. For some reason the fx57 is an optional upgrade from 4800, and costs more!

Looking at these guys atm, but the prices are making me feel ill.

edit to add: from some research, apparently the customer service and build quality are top notch

I was pointed to http://www.komplett.com/ when I was looking at PCs, they sell componants as well as prebuilt stuff, and you can customize the options.. Their prebuilt stuff is a lot more expencive than the components are seperatly from what I can see though..

I am a little put off by them having no info on when they were established. Well as far as I can see anyway..

They have copyright on the name from 2000- , but no other info :(
