If I get as far as the 'Not Responding' message I will consider myself lucky. :(

i admit it i'm tupid, but why doe sit take another 18 mb to update one simple error?
Because the Lindens have decided that the amount of bandwidth it takes for a few thousand people to download the file is negligable compared to the amount of work it would take to implement a proper patching system. They have limited development time, and all sorts of things they want to do. Unfortunately, that means they have to pick and choose.

Further, if you can use SL, you have broadband. An 18MB file shouldn't be that big a deal to us. (Though there are people for whom bandwidth is metered, and I can't see them especially liking this.)

Anyway, if you guys haven't downloaded 1.6.5(7) yet, get it. It works quite nicely.

Now that this problem is fixed I bet we dont see many "Thank you" posts.
Fixing software bugs is not like fixing a car or a pc where something breaks and you replace it. You have to find the problem, find what code is affecting that thing, find if that code will have knock on effects to other code (because whats the point in changing A if B, C, D etc become worse), then you have to change it, test it under varying circumstances, then release it for public test (on the preview server) then maybe have to fix a couple of things that were missed and found by the public test and then check what code that fix would affect. Then release that on the live servers. Possibly have to fix something else that was maybe missed by both the dev test and the public test.
Add to that the stress of thousands of users slagging off your work and your bosses saying this needs to be done urgently.... get my drift here.

Yes the Lindens could do with more frequent updates even if its just to let us know that they are working on it and its being dealt with as soon as is possible. Remember the developers are people just like us and have families and cant spend 24/7 working on a problem until its fixed.

Yes the Lindens should offer some sort of compensation for the inconvience to its customers, like L$500 and increase it depending on your tier.

And some of you lot should learn to calm down and chill out. It is after all only a game. Yes I know some of you spend hundreds of dollars a month here but to be honest if you have that much disposable income to spend on a game then its not really affecting your financial status. This problem has only been happening in the last week or so and a lot of you have just turned into unreasonable consumers (a growing trend, worryingly). If this had been going on for a month or more and nothing at all had been done about it then your responses would be warranted but for a bugfix to software this has been quite swift. Patches for other commerical "games" can take months to be released.

I congratulate the Lindens on fixing the problem, I do however think a little more communication with the forums and maybe a advertised status page with regular (more than once a day) updates to the progress of fixing faults. Maybe even some webcams of the offices so people can be assured that they are indeed working.
I hope that they read this and will automatically across the board credit peoples in game bank accounts with appropiate compensation for the unavailibility.
Finally, although I expect mostly flames to this post it would be nice to see some people thanking LL for fixing the problem...
