Hi...I was wondering if someone knows how to use the skin generator that you download from second skin labs. I would like to start making skin, but not sure how this skin generator works.

Can someone please help me?

My web site doesn't have a skin generator for download. I recall joking about a magical Photoshop filter called "Generate Skin" in the forums a while back, but that was pure fantasy. There is a makeup kit on my web site. Perhaps that is what you are refering to?

The makeup kit is a collection of layering effects applied to the default alpha textures found in the client character folder (eyeliner, blush, facial hair, freckles, etc.). You need Photoshop to use the kit. If you have a good working knowledge of Photoshop and how alpha channels work, you can use some of the black and white layers in the kit to alter and save your own alpha channels to plug back into the color layer effects part of the kit.

The makeup kit does NOT generate skins. If it did, it certainly wouldn't be free! That part of the equation still requires hard work, drawing abilities, and a good working knowledge of the software used.

More info is here:

Heh, I was wondering where the question came from. I saw this thread a few days ago, and was hoping you'd respond. Now that you mention it, I do remember you making that joke once or twice.

Tons. If you scroll a little bit down the first page of this forum right now, you'll find a great one about half way to the bottom. Of course, that particular thread might be in a slightly different spot by the time you read this, but my point is they're everywhere.

http://eloheliot.blogspot.com/ has links to the source files for her skins.

Free to download and mess with. Take a couple of them and analyse what each layer is doing, make TGA files and upload ot the TEST grid. Your first efforts will be dreadful, but Eloh's files will jumpstart your learning by months.

There is also Natalias tutorial.

the GIMP handles PSD files, and it's free at www.gimp.org for Linux and Windows.
