I would kill, mame and steal (Wait, I do that anyway)
for a pair of pirates pants that can have the fly open for ... er.. pirating business.
you know, peeing on your rivals ship that sort of thing.

I dont REALLY want to take my pants off every time.
And the whole "me jigglies pokin through me pants" Is not on mate.
Where can I buy this item?

I wish more were transferable. Coming up to christmas i have been looking for gifts and all the outfits i like are non trans. I know i can get the owner to send them to him but that spoils the idea of a gift under the tree. Heck Ill even pay more to be able to put them under the tree so please makers of mens clothing make them trans and i bet you would sell more as women will get them for their men folk.

After a year in SL, I've found a few men's clothing stores and/or malls that I tend to return to again and again. Alphamale, DE Designs, Jaysun's B-Side (something, I can't remember), Horenbeek (sp?), Style Starts Here, and a couple malls I can't remember.

I too get discouraged while shopping because most stores/malls have 99.9% women's things and a pair of grungy jeans and t-shirt for men. Men's shoes seem to be large square blocks, tennis shoes or elaborate boots that don't go with anything. Although men's shoes do seem to be getting better recently.

There is so much attention to detail, added flexi or sculpty, beautiful and elaborate textures, etc. put into so much of the women's clothing. I will even confess to buying a woman shape, skin and many, many hairs (and shoes, oh, the lovely shoes!) just so I could buy and wear some of those wonderful outfits, mostly the classic styles of gowns and some of the casual "retro" wear.

But, as a man, I DO shop in SL. Boy do I shop. I've been told to stop shopping because I might have a little addiction. Perhaps more men would shop for clothes if there were more choices and styles that were reasonably priced and easier to find. Because, no, I don't think your average guy will be willing to spend two or three hours a day, tping to store after store, just to complete an "outfit" or to pay the prices women do for clothing, just like in RL.

I occasionally look for men's clothing that are "trendy" or "different" or genre based (like sci-fi or fantasy, etc). Right now I'm on a rather fruitless search for the equivalent of a male belly dancing outfit. Not slave silks, I've seen plenty of those skimpy things. However, I'm usually looking for what I consider "normal", every day, clothes. Now, I'm sure MY "normal" is different from other men's normal because everyone has their own style. But my AV is 25 years old and the real me has, um, well, quite a few years older. So the skater look, grunge, flip flops and jeans, etc. or whatever the "kids" are wearing today just does not appeal to me at all. I have all the "club" clothes I will ever need, especially since I no longer go to clubs for the most part.

So, what I look for are nicely textured jeans, chino's, cargo pants, slacks, etc. that are not baggy, holey messes. Button up shirts, collarless button ups, pull overs, sweaters, polos, etc. that are more than just single colored, flat and what I could make myself with the in-world SL appearance tools. Stylish, simple, classy, casual without being messy. That's what I'm looking for.

It would be nice to have some classic looking clothes too. I don't know, retro? vintage? whatever. Suits/outfits/clothes from the 40's and 50's. Every day wear kinda clothes as well as "dress up" suits and things. Ivalde (sp?) for men in a not-for-a-club-costume-contest line of clothing.

I will not buy anything with a logo, RL or SL logo, generally no t-shirts with bands, sayings, pictures, etc. And, please, stop putting baby blue and pink shirts in the fat packs of otherwise nicely done shirts. It would also be nice to have colors other than the basic black, white, red and navy blue.

Men's jewelry is woefully underserved as well. I'm not talking about chunky bling, I'm talking about tasteful necklaces, bracelets and rings, sized big enough for men or at least modifiable so i can make it fit. There seem to be plenty of watches though for some reason.

And don't get me started on men's hair.

And, yes, it would be great if the clothing was mod/transfer instead of copy/mod. I doubt most men make "outfit" folders for the most part but I really would like to buy things for my significant other for Christmas (and other times). Or at least give a choice between copy or transfer please.

Try SOREAL... Their sculpty "Superstar" sneakers are the best I've seen anywhere on the Grid. They've got them in both single color and scripted color change.

I agree, there's a huge imbalance. I'm relatively new to SL and so I'm not sure if this reflects customer interest or that the majority of SL clothing designers are only familiar with or interested in making women's clothing.

Hard to really offer recommendations, since styles and tastes and interests can vary quite a bit. A couple recommendations for you - these people make some really high quality stuff:

AVid (gothy/victorian stuff... AMAZING)

Crimson Shadow (not as good as AVid, but still nice stuff and more affordably priced)

Hoorenbeek (best shoes and contemporary men's fashions I've seen in SL)

SteamForge/Creeve Town has a lot of great stuff, if you're into steampunk, or post-apocalyptic styles.

And while there's some excellent clothing in New Babbage, you'll have to do some exploring and adventuring. First because the place has a great look and feel (it's not just a mega-mall), and second because among the really great men's fashions there are many even greater women's fashions. Personally I don't mind having to look, so long as I find something decent when I do it. For men's wear I'll suggest that once you arrive at the train station in New Babbage start heading towards the docks. Some really excellent places at the end of the road.

As a guy who is constantly on a very unfruitful search for something new to wear, there is only one place I really love. For me, any designers looking to do more mens clothes, should take a look at the stuff Hoorenbeek sells. I don't want to even think about the amount of lindens I've spent there on their very nice but very pricey stuff.

I look for detailed textures and clothes I could see myself wearing in real life. There are some other stores I visit but Hoorenbeek is the only store I'd say I really love. I've also found some pretty nice stuff at the mens portion of the beauty avatar place.

I hate shopping at stores that don't have a clear mens section easily findable from where I tp in. I'll tp out of places like this as soon as I realize that it's a few things stuck in a corner or I have to search around for the mens stuff.

I'm looking for fantastic textures first on things when I'm shopping. The very first thing I do is zoom way in on a couple of items and look to see how they look up close. As a lot of mens clothes aren't "flamboyant over the top things" the devil is very much in the details for me. The simple fact is most of the stuff out there is garbage, at least imo.

I'm constantly on the lookout for jeans with some style and a little flair to them. Also, one big thing on jeans for me is that they need to be high enough up to meet my shirt and don't leave a stupid area in between my shirt and pants. I'm constantly looking for things that I can layer together to look good together. This means I'd like to have shirts I can put a jacket over and still have pants that don't leave some part of my belly sticking out. Sure there are shirts that have underwear to fill the gap but when I'm mixing stuff I've bought it's a huge pain to realize I can't wear this or that together because some pair of pants doesn't come up high enough. That one, in particular, drives me nuts.

I've never found a pair of swimming trunks I've ever liked much of anything designed around lounging around in on my island or at a beach. Swimming trunks are an impossibility I've given up on. I'm looking for dockers that actually look halfway decent up close and with a belt built into them. I've found maybe one jacket I've liked, always looking for more. I can barely ever find any decent shirts. I've been looking for a good hooded sweatshirt type of thing but thats impossible to find. Hoorenbeek had one but I didn't like the colors. I'm always looking for some decent sneakers but I can't stand most I see. I have a pair of leather shoes that have become my staple shoes because I can't find sneakers I really like. I hate the baggy garbage for guys, it looks awful in sl. The sandals that are more like shoes don't seem to exist in sl for guys. I've been looking for a "hugh hefner" 'esque robe since I joined sl and haven't found anything. I'm looking for shorts I could ever stand wearing, never found anything I liked. I'm always looking for any retro stuff I like, can never find much.

I'd very much like a white t shirt thats an undershirt, a decent polo type of shirt to wear over it, and an open jacket to throw over that. I've never found it.

I have about 6 outfits I can stand and most of them cost me quite a bit. It's either overpriced and nice or cheap and junk with almost no good stores that are reasonable and still make nice stuff.

Also, I fully agree about the mens jewelry stuff. It's next to impossible to find anything I would put on my body. I have one cheap necklace thing i like and I've looked at probably 20-30 stores trying to find something more to throw on myself that looks good and semi-normal. I'm always looking for unique stuff or clothes that still look good but I don't find a lot.

I hate shopping in sl not because I don't like shopping, rather I hate it because nothing is ever easy to find for guys when your picky. I spend forever looking for stuff I like and come home with nothing. That is awfully frustrating when I have thousands of lindens sitting around that I would gladly spend on some more variety in my clothing.

....finally a not insignificant reason would be that a huge number of 'guys' runs around in women clothes in sl .... :/ uhoh.. and shapes and skins..
..so the vendors simply have an artifactual minor market segment to surply -> low income for equal efford
:)

I hate adding to an ancient thread, but I gotta throw my 2 lindens in.

Hoorenbeek has been mentioned and they're good (if a bit too expensive for my taste)...but my choice is Kal Rau.

Nothing there is overpriced, and it's all stuff I'd happily wear in RL.

If you're the type of guy who'll wear a skin with eyeliner, and jet-black prim hair covering half your face...wellllll, this might not be your store.

But if you're an average, everyday "blue collar" type of male, you'll probably find what you need here.

Not only ancient, but also out of place in a forum about making your own textures. Interesting stuff, though.......

I make my own men's clothes for myself for fun and sometimes I do occasionally sell stuff.
I love do clothes, I even known to do special outfits for nothing or for donations for those who ask.
Fun thing to do bit challenging, definitely not for wimps.
I will say making good pair of realistic jock straps and male g-strings is major pain.
Issue is because of the area in between men's legs in the UV layer.
I haven't entirely figured out how to not have this awful fabric thing hanging in between the thighs.
This was one of my last attempts front and back with men's jocks.
I never seen anyone else do a pair in SL for Men.

I really wish I knew how to get rid of the fabric though in between the legs.
Best realistic male briefs I have seen is at Get Butch.
I briefly hung out dated this guy who did incredible jewelery for Men but my brain isn't
rezzing his name.
This is best white shirt so far that I have made it comes with matching pants.
It's on sale at onrez for 40L not one has sold there.

I have been making (mostly) men's clothing for a few years under the brand name "Neon Coyote." My clothing is inexpensive and popular. I make clothing that I would wear myself and also what others are looking for. Please have a look at my web page: http://mysite.verizon.net/neon.coyote/index.htm My most popular items are my jockstraps and Speedo-style bathing suits. I also have sweaters, polo/golf shirts, tank tops, etc.

I started out by making everything transferrable. For a long time I offered some things (like the jockstraps) as transferrable in either underpants or pants layer. But, I found this confused or overwhelmed too many customers. (Too mnay choices?) I now package most everything in multiple layers for the versatility (undershirt, shirt, jacket, et al.). Therefore, the individual items are copiable, but not transferrable.

I agree there aren't enough choices for men's clothing, At least the "normal" kind of clothing that isn't too "urban" "trendy" or whatever!

This may change over time as more established designers become aware of the shortage and newer designers (who are looking for an untapped market) enter the grid. I've recently been seeing some high quality men's wear pop up here and there, but most of it falls in that "urban/trendy" category.

The fact is, there really isn't a huge demand for men's clothes, since 90% of guys don't care what their avi looks like and they'd rather spend L$ on big toys and at the strip clubs (much like in real life LOL). So unless the majority of the grid's male population suddenly get fasion conscious, expect this trend to continue.

To put it bluntly, if a designer isn't moving enough product (i.e. men's clothing) to make it worth their time and trouble, then they aren't going to do much of it. :/

I could be mistaken, but with the high rate of image theft lately, I doubt you'll find any clothes worth buying that are transferable. In most cases the 'no trans' feature is the only way for designers to protect thier creations... just a sad fact of life on the grid. >.>
