Someone said something about needing brushes for fabric wrinkles yesterday. I'd been playing around with fold textures that I made, so I turned them into brushes, threw together some more, and posted them with a tutorial at my graphics LJ. http://community.livejournal.com/solitarytree/6016.html I hope they're useful-- feel free to modify them for your own needs. (And there's a Paypal button on that journal's profile, should anyone desire to show appreciation that way. Though you don't have to; these brushes are free!)

Hey Ceres, thanks so much for your generosity and taking the time to do the tutorial for those of us that love new brushes and are fold challenged! Can't wait to get home and play with them!

Kadri, you're quite welcome! I get a little frustrated myself in situations where I know a little bit, but not enough. I like tutorials that give you credit for knowing that little bit, but explain the stuff that's intuitive to someone who's been doing it for a while. Speaking of, if someone wants to explain to me how the heck animation priorities work, and what the heck a ZHAO is, I would be thrilled.

A ZHAO is a brand of animation overrider. It's nice because it has a HUD and is easy to toggle on and off.
Animation priorities are sort of a weird thing. Ideally, they would be set so, for instance, you could walk using on animation and still, say, use a 'drink holding/drinking' animation at the same time so it would look like you were walking along and enjoying a beverage but using two different animations. In reality, since there are no commonly understood guidelines to animations, animation makers often just select a priority based on their own beliefs on where their animation falls on the priority scale. So you end up in situations like going to sit on a chair poseball and your own sit animation conflicts with the poseball and your poor avatar looks like s/he's a practicing contortionist.
Anyway, that's my understanding of animation priorities. The folks over in the Animation forums will be much more informed than I.

I think I'm going to have to just sit down and play with animations to figure out how they work. No easy way out. But thanks for explaining. I'm so glad y'all like the brushes! I love making useful things.

From: Elle74 Zaftig How to install the brushes though? Info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you again!!! I didn't put it on there, no. To install, just put it in your Presets- Brushes folder, and when you next start up PS, it'll be there. To use, click on the brush tool, click the little downward-pointing arrow by the brush you have selected, then click on the right-pointing arrow at the top to select which brush set you want to use. Enjoy!

From: Ghanie Lane How do you/can you get the folds to go strait down? Use the "Straight Folds" brush. Those are straight up and down, more or less. If you're looking for absolute vertical folds, keep in mind that they'll end up looking like stripes inworld. (Ask me how I know. Heh.) It needs a little variation to look natural.

*blushes* I'm so glad people like these!
Stay tuned; I'm working on a clothing folds tutorial and a new set of brushes. Thanks to Johan Durant's SLCP (which I finally got to work, yayes!) I'm able to test these brushes out and find out how to get a 3D effect all the way round. So yeah, new and better brushes will be coming soon. I'll post here with the links.

Aaaand I finished it. A set of brushes for creating skirt folds, along with a basic overview of clothes folds, is posted in my graphics journal. These are possible thanks to Robin Wood and Chip Midnight, who made such great templates, and to Johan Durant, who saved me from wasting many hours and lindens uploading texture after texture thanks to his SLCP program. One thing I forgot to say in the tute is that the brushes are 512x512, so you need to reduce your template to that size before using them. If there's any interest, I might go on to make some more brushes, though I can't guarantee as to when. These exist thanks to spring break.

Palomma, I would love some help. I have an AO, I just don't know what to do with it. (And regarding the brushes, I can post jpgs so you can turn them into PS 7 brushes. Hopefully later tonight.) Wilhelm-- Thanks! I'm so glad you're having fun with them! Jesseaitui-- Yes, you can use them on commercial projects with no restrictions. (Are you the Aitui skins person? I love your skins!) Just don't sell the brushes themselves. And I'm glad you find them useful! That's a high compliment.

Chip- Thanks! I only follow your example. Good content benefits everyone, imo. Palomma- I made jpgs of the brushes and will post them in my next journal post. Check your help file for directions on how to make brushes out of them.
