I is what I is.

LOL

ok why do I look how I look in SL.. well when I first came into SL I couldn't get the hair thing not looking tarded so I went bald. I accidentally deleted my pants in the WA 5 mins after joining... which was funny in a way being chased by a well known greeter trying to tell me what to do while I ran from tree to rock and around with no pants.
I eventually escaped and hid out in Venice (1.0) where I fashioned NEW PANTS out of the linden carpet texture... the addition of a baggy shirt and a vest made of two other silly textures completed the ensemble.

I have a like for things arabian so it took off from there - along with my first build (still standing in Taber).

Over the last few years things have stayed the same although I swapped my halter top and vest for an 'I <3 Dorks' t-shirt (thanks Sureal and Ferran for duping that in RL for my birthday - I LOVE IT) and a pair of 'crappy frayed jeans.

My Av to this day won't wear shoes and nearly every 'incarnation' from tiny to midget to android has a ponytail and earrings.

As for me - personality - I am just me... here , in RL, in world.

In RL why am I the way I am? I've grown up and worked most my adult life in envirnoments that don't have time for fucking around... In my current job if I spend too much time having people yammer on about crap, things don't get to air on time.

I don't want to know WHY something isn't ready - I need to know if it is - and if it isn't you better be hopping too fucking pronto making it ready rather than yammer on.. or risk a very literal foot in the arse.

Previous jobs were simply if you put up listening to too much shit - people will get hurt or killed. So, I have a very 'no bullshit' way of dealing with things.. Few words - and hopefully the ones I use get the job done in an effective manner.

Personally i love to be geographically larger than life. I don't say alot at social gatherings or the forums or in RL but my Avatar(s) truly speak for me.

So sorry if I stepped on you. I was just trying to be heard, if not trying to be me :D

Who I am
04-20-2006 19:16
I am who I am based on the future that I am living into.....

From: Case Click
This is a question to all Second Life citizens ;)

I am an artist who focuses on interactive works. I recently joined Second Life and my experiences in it led to the project I am currently involved in. This work focuses on avatars and our relationships with these virtual representations of ourselves.

All of us consciously chose the how to represent ourselves in this second life. Our choices vary. We look human, and alien. Our avatars are Robots, geometric shapes, animals, anything that our minds think up we make real as we take advantage of an opportunity that does not exist on earth, to chose how we look.

What I am wondering is why do we make the choices that we make? I am curios as to your thoughts on this subject. Tell me, why are you who you are?

Why Am I L

I am assuming you are serious in your question unlike most of those who posted to this thread. I chose the Avie I use because it is like I want to be not like I am. I would guess most of those in SL do the same. My AV in sl is a tall dark, hopefully handsome man. Approximately 6' 2". Very muscular. A little darker than I like but that is because I picked the wrong skins without following the directions and do not want to spend the money for a new skin and it seems to attract the opposite sex. However, that does not matter now since I have found the one I want to be with here in SL. The avie I use in here appears to be that of a young man. Saying all that, that is where it ends as far as the physical appearance. I act the same way in SL as I do in RL. I treat others as I would like to be treated. I try to be honest, polite, and consider of others and their beliefs and opinions (not like a lot of those in the forums). I have always believed in the Golden Rule and will continue to act that way. I hope you are able to get the information you are seeking. Enjoy Second Life and anytime you would like to talk just look up George Flan in SL.

I was given 2 skins on my first day here. These are still the skins I use, and one of them I wear almost exculsively. The haircut and glasses came the following day. I've spent a fortune on skins, hair and clothes, yet I always return to the same look I had from my first week.
I mostly wear a combination of clothes that I have made and freebie stuff. This has become me here, I don't look right to myself any other way. In a world of bling, I am probably seen as very boring. To that extent, I suppose my avatar is a representation of my real self. lol.

/me will probably spend another fortune next week on skins and hair with the hope that one day I'll find something as comfortable as what I currently use.

There's at least 14 known me's, different avatars of the same root from Watermelon Prime. Long story's on my blog--short one is, it's amusing to see what assumptions get made sometimes. I'd prefer ultimately to be asked about time travel, multiple me's (not multiple personalities, really--all the same me), and soforth.

Main form: Torley, Jr.... wanted to forecast my mind into the future, think what it'd be like to have a daughter who will be social (because I am not; yes that's weird I know). She is also perceived to be far more positive and humorous than the offline me is--for now. <--- this is the real magic of SL. I hope to grow into this someday. Appearance of my avatar is primarily a fusion of my ancestors, including my Mom, taking the genetic thing into context, and blending it with glowy watermelons to the max. Inspired by anime, surrealist cinema, maybe most recently Shiina Ringo. But all in all, moi.

Hot pink+neon green chosen for several reasons, including: 1) easier color contrast for my eyes, 2) they are they color of watermelons, 3) very easy to input the values <0,1,0> and <1,0,0.5>. My favorite color was turquoise blue, and then cobalt blue, which you can see in my av's eyes (customs made by Munchflower Zaius). I have Mistress Midnight to thank for the skin and Zyrra Falcone to thank for my current hair, which is radical. Phedre Aquitane made a nice steampunk monocle, Vincent Delvecchio made a kewl Watermelon Happyhat, and I may figure a way yet to wear Ante Flan's waves as a nice attachment. Etc.

There's an avian me--Torlavian--by Psyra Extraordinaire, because I like his birds a lot. I've thought what it'd be like to be a big bird, tromping around and flying around the world--and I'm happy to have done it.

There's a bunny me by Ryntha Suavage, because that is the "furry", or anthropomorphic me. Altho in humanform, sometimes I am a catgirl (with ears and tail), my animal soul is more like a lop-eared rabbit, or Torlop for short.

Enabran Templar made the robot me, a Siegebot designated JL-2086. Which is just kickass because I can get my good cyberpunk vibes in here. Reflects a good part of my history prior to joining SL... Enab and I both like Deus Ex and want llTeleportAgent a lot!

Torley, Sr. is the male me, who I was for approx. 2 months at the start of my Second Life. Based directly on offline me. He makes rare guest appearances, and you can simulate him by getting an av kit at the Stillman Free Bazaar, complete with the first object I ever tried to make in SL, a recreation of a Roland V-Synth. (Took me hours to figure out how to select an individual texture face.) ;)

Somewhere in between, yes, there was a lot of time-travel. And not to mention that the Torley, Jr. today is not the same one at the start of her adventure (which began in early Nov. 2004). There was divergence, and then convergence, in the timeline.

I began as Torley Torgeson, now am Torley Linden. Which is funny because both are sorta alliterative (TorTor, leyLin)...

(There's a blueberry + orange one named Torange. She died in Preview 1.6. Don't ask, don't tell.)

That 10m Prim limit is a real b*tch, huh? ;)

ahem.

I have multiple AVs on a few alts. But I try to keep them as separate as possible. Each alt is a different kind of mood for me. But this account is the base 'Me' and I only recently started a new AV to fill in the gaps of my main AV. My main AV, a Hyena, is the end result of many many characters from other games/MUCKs/etc.

I've never really had a good, as they would say in the Matrix, Residual Self Image. I'm not sure why. I know what I look like, but it's not what I feel I look like inside. Even as a kid, I never liked looking into mirrors because the face just didn't feel right to me. So I guess it's one reason why I stray from Human characters or AVs. Maybe I'm loking for the body that fits what I feel inside?

If you want to talk IW, I'd be glad to go into more detail.

Trying to give you a serious answer here...

Ceera started out as an Avatar in another RP venue, a primarily text-based RP forum, called The Napping Cat's Dream. Over a period of several years play there, she became a very powerful and influential character, with a detailed back-story. She is known there as Ceera Darkwynde.

She was also rapidly becoming too powerful to play with most other Players- She was (and still is, over there) a "Goddess of Dreams and Nightmares", born Human, soul-merged with a dragon and a phoenix, immortal, shapeshifter... A lot of that was built up as the effects of various RP adventures that she was in. But her initial definition was a powerful sorceress who specialized in mind magicks (especially nightmares) and pyromancy. She was a 'Nemisis' character for a specific series of adventures there. Over time, she mellowed out a lot, as she 'tried to turn over a new leaf'.

She became infatuated/in love with another RP character over there. A female Kitsune. That Kitsune's Player came to Second Life, and pretty much abandoned the Napping Cat's Dream. Ceera got bored, and missed her Companion.

So I picked the aspects of my powerful character that were most compatable with my Kitsune lover, and followed here here. Still a shapeshifter, but tending to assume an anthro fox form most of the time, pleasing to my Companion. And nowhere near as powerful...

==============

So, I came here, and formed my Avatar as I did, so I could play more with an on-line friend whose company and roleplaying I truly enjoyed.

From my Player's prespective, I do like several aspects of "Furry" roleplaying, and that is easy to do here. I am also fond of foxes, wolves and cainines in general. My friend that I followed into SL is also into these things, so an anthro fox is my primary form here.

Most of my social activities in SL revolve around the circle of friends that my RP Companion here had already developed. I also became a group officer for a group consisting of Players who also play in the Napping Cat's Dream, and have a circle of friends here from that.

I happen to have a strong artistic side, so I learned to be a texture artist and builder, so I could support my expenses for playing here. My SL business endeavors keep me busy and provides a small amount of extra RL income, and my freinds here keep me happy.

Beats wasting time in bars in RL, and fending off RL wackos who don't understand that I am just looking for entertainment, and I don't want to date them. In SL, if someone gets to be too much of a bother, I can TP away, or just log off.

It also keeps me off the streets and generally out of trouble, and it's inexpensive entertainment. :D

My avatar is a shiny black sphere.

The idea is that it shows the minimal amount of information necessary - my poisition in world and whether I'm typing (shown with a colour change). I don't roleplay or anything and don't feel the need to use gestures to express myself so I like it this way.

Thanks to those of you who have bothered to answer. I really appreciate it :)

If there is anything you wish to add on the topic of avatars in general and our relationships with them, please do! I have found most of the posts helpful, even the ones that didn't answer my questions directly still helped. I will keep checking this post for more input and I'll try to contact in SL those of you who offered.

Thanks again!

If I can be of help feel free to contact me. I'm barely ever in world, but I have offline IMs on and can usually be tempted in with a nice word.
