Can't compare SL to other MMOGs because no other MMOG has to deal with massive amounts of user-created content.

umm...take away scripting? WTF! ARE YOU EATING MERCURY FOR BREAKFAST?

okokok

maybe you have not noticed, but....the reason we access SL is because we DONT know what we r gonna see next, or what someones imagination can do, not what 20 people can think but what 350,000 peopl can do. come on

dont like it. leave. your not going to die if you do, unhappy, leave, simple.

sorry for being an ass but i really think thats a stupid idea

It's standard on World of Warcraft for patch day to be like a journey through the ninth circle of hell. Blizzard patches that using a version of Bit Torrent, which can make things interesting, to say the least.

Isn't "stable" and "mmorpg" an oxymoron?

i'm trying to figure out why people like Briana Dawson and Axel Truss don't get that the Original Poster was being.. tongue-in-cheek.

Gaius Goodliffe wasn't really being serious about wanting to remove scripting.

Err? Maybe there is a language barrier for some people here or something... but clearly tongue-in-cheek writing and mild cleverness is lost on people in SL.

Hmm. Crashes related to scripted email. And when the grid gets taken down by griefers, what's the cause? Maliciously scripted objects.

If people really, really want SL to be as stable as World of Warcraft... no wait, bad example.

If people really, really want SL to be as stable as more stable MMOGs, the solution is pretty simple -- remove the unique feature SL has that they don't: user scripting!

A platform where your options are limited by the original programmers is easy to debug and maintain. If all you can do is fly griffins and kill orcs, it's easy to get it right. If the only objects you can own are those created by the company, it's easy to get it right.

But a platform where you can do whatever you want? Create anything you want? There's no way that can be as effectively tested! You can't test for literally everything, so you need to limit options.

Once scripting is removed, we shouldn't see all these problems. Let's face it, it's just not possible to test every conceivable script people might run on your platform, not in any reaonsable timeframe, but people are going to hold you to the same standard as other platforms that don't give them the capabilities and freedom that yours does. LL, given this, there's really only one option: remove that freedom so we can have a secure and stable platform.

Clearly that's what we all want, right?

;)

Your joking right? Seriously, your joking right? Any mmo's that have any large amount of ppl are not completley stable, there are alot of variables to contend with...

Asking LL to take out the full user custamization is asking them to make SL into what it's trying not to be....can;t beleive someone even posted this....the whole point of SL is that it breaks all the boundries put in place by other MMO...plus it's not realy an RPG to begin with

Sims online...

also.. a large part of the instability would be due to the fact that we can actually build stuff.. the client also isnt 1gb like other mmogs either... I would imagine anyways

Hana, a very large majority of people everywhere can't pick up things like that.
