It would be better if the Linden staff wouldn't use "Today" by itself but would either add the date or jsut use the date.

There will probably be someone that sees the thread title and thinks there will be a townhall today,

I would say you're off your rocker  , but when I saw today, although I knew the TH was yesterday, I thought it meant that the audio was ready already "today".

And for Lewis' timing issues, don't they alternate these for Euro timing and US timing?

Take questions in the forum, consolidate them, give those answers first, THEN take questions from the floor if there is time left. That is how it should be run, and until LL move to that format, they will continue to be a waste of time.
If priority is given answering questions posed by the small percentage who utilize the forum over the people who are actually in town for the show, it would be better called forum hall than town hall. Forum rats are already accustomed to frequenting this place and there is a designated place for questions in the Second Life Answers forum. While the town hall format is very far from ideal for taking the pulse of the nation, putting forth an out of world solution focused on the forums seems somewhat egocentric. Isn't the whole point/benefit of the town hall that it is held inworld and in direct contact with the residents on site?

Your plan isn't ridiculous, it's just not the so very obviously correct method which you present your suggestion to be. The idea of utilizing Skype seemed to have potential in light of the previous town halls with questions and answers being interspersed amongst the greetings, LOL's, and general chit chat, but you went and shot that idea down right off the bat. Sorry, Lewis, but your "doesn't impress me in the slightest" and "maybe I'm just not happy to install yet another piece of software" come across more like cranky and uncooperative spoutings than an analysis or a "legimate question". Like you said, you've not had much experience with town halls so maybe a bit of giving it a chance was in order. Commenting after the fact on the successes or failures (most likely there will be both) of a new methodology is one thing, but jumping all over it before hand is ignorable in my book.

Those are in addition to the major problem, that it is held at a time inconvenient to Europeans. Can you imagine the outcry if a Town Hall was held at 10am SLT which cut out most of the US player base from attending?

How could anyone think that you could hold a 'town hall' for 175,000 residents (ok, I know the number of 'actual people' is like a fifth of that number, but still...) and have every resident's concerns or ideas addressed?

Surely there must be a better way to hear the voice of the people. You'd think the ridiculous voting system could be used a bit better to accomplish this end, but the Lindens have seemingly abandoned that whole farce.

"Town Hall", 175,00 people spread out across the whole, yeah, right.

There are many questions that need answering yes, but not many people are willing to ask them or take the extra step necissary to get them answered. I've visited my fair share of meetings to not get my questions heard. Then we were given the option of skype, I downloaded it, installed it, I got to talk with Phil about my recent question & concerns. Even managed to make a suggestion he thought was a good idea.

So tell me Lewis, what have you done to get your question(s) answered?

Why should this be our problem to get LL to do their job and answer the questions and customer concerns? LL doesn't want to provide support, then people go elsewhere to spend their money. I myself am spending lots less time on SL and spending more time on other platforms/games.

Capitalism will eventually provide a solution. Those that provide what people are willing to pay for survive. Those that don't won't.

And Manchester United's football matches are held at very inconvenient viewing times for their American fans, when we can see them at all! Yet I don't feel the need to go on forums and bitch incessently about not being able to see each Man United game. Manchester United has fan clubs in 54 separate countries; are you suggesting they should play games at times that are convenient for all 54 countries they have fans in despite 75% of their fan base being based in the UK? Because you're applying that same incredibly silly logic here.

That's definately a good reason to move to the states *spits on the red devils*

..but seriously, is there a link to where we can hear the town hall? Or even a transcript? Anyone? Bueler? Anyone?

My guess is it'll appear Monday when LL's back at work - or when Johnny's done editing.

For the record, I hate Man United, but they were the best example of a UK based organization with a customer base around the globe. My teams are (start laughing now) Bristol City and the Bristol Rovers. Fortunately, I'm in the USA 95% of the time, so my pain is limited. :)

I think what ever format they choose, what ever time the town hall takes place, the info should be readily available to those who are not able to make it. And the thought of a resident editing it makes me cringe.

PS My team isn't doing much better - Norwich City :D

As i understand it, they hired him to do the job. What does it matter if he also has a SL account? Would you prefer someone who hasn't?

If you're talking about editing a town hall, then yeh I would prefer someone who hasn't. That's easily worked around though, just make it readily available asap, and unedited.
