I know I have seen this mentioned before in the forums, but I would like some opinions.
How would you content creators feel if someone came to you and said....'I was crashing like a Mofo today and SL is being a bitch and I lost 2 of the items I purchased from you earlier'. Of course through no fault of yours or the customers the item now seems to have poofed into oblivion. Would you feel like they are trying to 'get something' for nothing? Or after looking at your transactions would you maybe be open to replacing it?
The two items weren't expensive or anything....about $L200 each.

No, you can't give them away, but it's like an insurance that you bought the item that will show on the transaction history. If it happened to me, I'd probably charge them $50 to replace them. No, it's no their fault, but incase they were lying, they wouldn't get it for free. If the weren't lying, and they liked the item well enough, they might be willing to pay at least a small price to get them again.

It depends on permissions. If it's copy/notransfer, I have sales records going back over 2 years. I can verify that you have legitimately aquired one of my items in just a few moments. I'm more than happy to send a complimentary replacement for any reason. You're always safe no matter how innovative or brilliant SL is at finding ways for you to lose your items. If it's nocopy/transfer - sorry

The two items weren't expensive or anything....about $L200 each. As someone that has been kicked in the backside by the asset server, I'd say yes, I would replace if they were in the log files. Now, most of my items are sold as mod/no-copy/transfer so technically, they could 'get one up' by doing this. But I think i'd notice if they asked more than a couple of times. Of course, the attacks last weekend caused quite a bit of asset server weirdness, and I've seen/heard a lot of people getting worked up over having lost expensive items last weekend. So I'd definitely lean to the side of accepting their story right now.

In many cases, I check with Linden Lab to see if there were known issues with the grid, asset server, or sims during the time of the purchase. Otherwise, it depends on the situation and the person for me. I've had some people who seem to ALWAYS have a problem with a purchase and need a second copy, and after a while, its clear they're not being entirely honest. Other than that, I tend to give the customer the benefit of the doubt.
That's why most of my stuff is no transfer now; it makes it really easy. SLBoutique.com is also set up that anyone who makes a purchase of a No Transfer item can send it to the item recipient as many times as they wish after the original purchase from our "Account History" page. This also serves as a nice "backup copy" of purchases.
Regards,
-Flip

I've only had this come up a couple of times on my game tables and the circumstances led me to believe it was entirely likely that SL DID in fact destroy their table, so I gave them a new one even though they're nocopy/transfer. I think the only one I've turned down was someone who IMed me to tell me that her friend's main account was banned and wanted me to give her alt a new game table for free.

As someone who lost over 50 items (alot of them very expensive) over the past couple weeks, I can tell you from a customer standpoint I remember very well who helped me and who did not.
Will I shop at the ones who did not help? Never again. It is unfortunate, as one of them I spent a fair chunk of my $L at.
Will I remember the ones who helped and tell my friends about them? Of course. Good deeds are always noticed. And I'm grateful for the help. Sure it isn't their responsibility. But who's going to replace my items? LL? ha!
As one of the creators who graciously helped me said "It costs me nothing to do this, so why not?"

That is exactly the point - and the return for doing so is worth far more than any perceived lost sale.

I was lucky to only lose the clothing I was wearing when the grid tanked during the last griefing.. I only discovered the loss the other day, as I don't wear the clothes very often (its my fighter pilot flightsuit, I wear when flying my helicopters).. Well, I contacted the creator, and explained what happened, and that I'd be happy to buy another copy of the package (its SOOOOOO well done and SOOOO realistic).. About 10 seconds later, she IM'ed me another copy of the package... Needless to say, I'll remember her in the future... Oh what the heck! Aimee Weber!! Thank you! I love you!!!

After a cursory check of your account history, if you could not find the transaction, would you refuse them?

it happens so infrequently for me i just check to see if the person calling actually did buy the item and if they did i send them the item. i would however think twice if the same person came to me time and time again requesting lost items.

I would indeed i can search back a year and find a transaction with the item sold who bought it where they bought it and how much it was. if I can not find the transaction they did not buy it from me.

Well, it really depends
I have had stuff disapear from my inventory, known people who have had it happen as well, so I tent to have some sympathy for people who have it happen to them (nowi bet everyones going to IM me and tell me they lost something haha). If its someone I know buys a lot from me then usually i dont hesitate, if it sounds sketchy i check my sales record.
I think its a nice gesture, unlike games like There we dont have a base cost for each copy of an item we sell, so i really have no problem if I think its a ligitimate claim.

From: Cristiano Midnight After a cursory check of your account history, if you could not find the transaction, would you refuse them? That's a good question. But in my case I keep constant track of the funds in my account because I also have a partner and am often using or holding his money as well. So if I saw that there was no record but my funds have gone up the amount of the item then yes I'd still replace it. But let's say, there is no record in my account history, there is no record on the website in my transaction history AND there are no extra unaccounted for funds in my account... then I think it would be pretty clear I was being scammed and I wouldn't fall for it.

I need to check my inventory. I've never seen anything get lost before ever in 9 months I've been here on SL. Of course I've never been through a crash before as I'm on so late at night.
Anyways, after reading this I might be more willing to replace transfer items. Though I still worried about getting scammed.
I think I will be making all items No transfer from now on. I was able to replace those without even worrying and it makes me feel happier to help someone out like that. Just what happens if they want a refund if they happen to not like the item?

I always offer replacements. I've had the asset server eat some of my things and I know how irritating it is.

well.. if its Copy/no transfer.. and you have a sales record.. whats the loss of giving them another copy.. not like they can give it away... if its no copy/transfer then its worth looking into.. simple.. not really worth a forum post o.O
